  1. Can someone please tell me how to include a document's word count on the first page? I understand there's a formal way to do this, other than just typing it in yourself. I have to do this for a paper I'm submitting this morning with stringent word count limitations, and can't seem to figure it out. Thanks. Peace, Hart
  2. True 'dat. Given how I used to see her "play" for free (in the hallway, while camping, at assemblies, etc.) as a friend of mine when we were in high school together, it seems strange to me to have to pay to see her play. Not that I would ever hesitate to do so, even for a second.

  8. Heady camp-job-getting vibes, headed your way.
  9. Thanks for the heads up. Although, I feel obliged to point out that this isn't actually at Higher Ground (though they're putting on the show). It's an outdoor show at Shelburne Museum, which is just outside of Burlington. They have a really stellar line up of shows there every summer, and it's in a truly beautiful spot. Peace, Hart

  14. I don't see any clickable text. I mean' date=' I'm clicking on Mike MacDougall and I'm not seeing any bio or link to wikipedia. Useless....[/quote'] Please don't undermine my fragile self-esteem: I'm doing the best I can to emulate our taping wonder, but my beard and linking skills can only grow so fast. Let's try this again: It's Mike MacDougall, who is awesome and is from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
  15. Nice one, thanks for posting it. I agree that David Fricke is one of the only good ones left there, along with Rob Sheffield. This line: is straight-up one of the coolest things I've seen written about someone's playing in a long time.
  16. That'd be Mike MacDougall. (I'm now ducking the beer bottle that bradm will no doubt throw at me when he sees I beat him to the punch in terms of offering someone a tidbit of information they were missing).
  17. I'm going to be a prick here and challenge this one, for two reasons: 1. I'm pretty sure that both Brother Duane and Dickey Betts played on the track (an impression that is substantiated by the song's WikiPedia entry). As the theme title says the song has to have been played by only ONE member of the group, that would make this one not count. 2. This was the first song I thought of for this theme, but I didn't post it, for the reason I cited above. If I can't have it, then nobody else can, damnit. Hugs and Kisses, Hart
  18. phishtaper, I think that private party analogy is great, and really sums up the issues a lot of people have with the scene surrounding the band. It pisses me off no end when people dump on the band, and when asked to explain all they have to offer are complaints about the fans (valid though they may be) and nothing about the actually musicians. I feel as though a lot of the people who hate on the band would rave about them if they were to stumble on them in a bar somewhere. The last couple of albums haven't done it for me (I haven't actually bought them, but I'm going on the tunes I've heard), but I still go out and see them when I can. The shows still entertain me, and I almost feel like I owe it to them out of sheer loyalty.
  19. I would go out on a limb and say that's probably the first time that's ever been done. As for the late start time, I find that's often an issue when they play. I've seen them sound-checking after 10:00 in bars numerous times, and at their most recent show in Victoria, the loan opener (Noises from the Toolshed) didn't start until after eleven. It gets frustrating, but it's often not their fault and is almost always worth the wait.
  20. 204. Songs attributed to a BAND but featuring only ONE member of that band on it. 1. The Beatles - Yesterday (Paul McCartney) 2. Blind Melon - Life Ain't So Shitty (Shannon Hoon) 3. Dave Matthews Band - I'll Back You Up (this should be obvious, and feel free to hate on me) 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
  21. That looks wicked Jay, thanks for putting it up. It makes me really happy to see these guys doing so well. I remember that it was kind of surreal the first time I saw them play Barrymore's - just to see them rocking that size/caliber of a room so far from Halifax and seeing the band put together an established following in a different part of the country. I definitely got the same feeling just now watching that clip. I hope a full-length DVD gets circulated at some point. Peace, Hart
