  1. Awesome free show on the waterfront last night. Made it there a little late after finishing work at five in Lake Placid (two hour drive), but what we saw was well worth it. Reid Genauer is a killer songwriter IMO, and Adam Terrell was ripping it up on lead. Add into that a beautiful warm summer night and a crowd that was pretty fired up (dancers up front and lawn-chair-sitters at the back = total harmony) and you have a pretty quality show. Highlights included a rousing cover of Neil Young's "Walk On" (complete with rippin' southern guitar work and an ABB tease) and a beautiful Reid solo version of "Speculator", which he wrote while living in Burlington. Two thumbs way up.

I've spoken at a handful of weddings, and I've found that the best course of action to take is to be as specific as possible when talking about the bride and/or groom, whether you do it in describing them or telling anecdotes. The ol' "Matt's been a great friend and he and Heather are really in love, so here's to them" routine is fine, but things that could be said about any couple on the face of the planet aren't all that memorable.
  4. I have kind of a hard time sympathizing here. If you're looking for a "family friendly" event, you should maybe avoid booking bands who had a big-time rock radio hit whose refrain went "I love the cocaine/I love the cocaine".

  7. Glad you dig it, and I agree the choices are limited. That's why I specified non-motorized bikes, as I foresaw it quickly descending into "Songs About Motorcycles", which would be much easier and not what I was going for, damnit.

  14. I couldn't swing the whole weekend, but my lady and I will be there for Sunday and are really looking forward to it. I'm intrigued to see how Warren Haynes and John Scofield play off each other.

  16. Yeah, it lies with the ratings. Way more people will be watching Miss Universe and Medium than would ever watch hockey, especially a game involving a small-market Canadian team. No, this is not just like high school. That building wouldn't exist were it not for the Senators, and their making the finals is perhaps a once-a-generation occurrence. Roger Waters will be playing nearby, and perhaps will still be playing at Scotiabank Place, so it's not as though people won't have a chance to see him. For all intents and purposes, it's the Senators' building, so I see no problem with him having to step aside, even though this has disappointed some people. It's not as though the Senators are trying to play in Roger Waters Stadium. As for your "rich football team v. impoverished high school band analogy", I'm pretty sure that Roger Waters could buy and sell every member of the Senators and their management multiple times over, so I don't really think that works.
