  3. RNB it was in March 2001 i'm pretty sure. he was strutting/dancing around playing the guitar like a real rock star, great energy.
  4. i bought that for jojo a few Xmases ago
  5. i grew up on the west coast so nothing too ethnic... but we lived on the beach, so my dad would take me out to catch crabs on the beach and then we'd cook them up for dinner. also we had tons of blackberry bushes all over the place so i'd bring home buckets of them and my mom would make pies all summer long. that's my favourite kind of pie haven't had it forever...sigh. i don't remember anything else that was too special. lots of salmon of course!
  6. no vehicle here (sorry) but if you need a nice futon couch that will come apart and fit in your door, i'll sell you mine

  13. so...how long are you gonna be over there for now? maybe we'll visit you in the fall! i'm sure it must be pretty rough living at times, once the novelty wears off and stuff. i hope your vaca is relaxing! anyway the name zanzibar is just so exotic that it makes me want to go more. oh i meant to ask you...do you work mostly in french or english there? is their french hard to understand at all?
  14. haven't been to either, but we were considering tanzania recently so i read up on zanzibar and i think it sounds pretty interesting. there is quite a mix of cultures there (>swahili) from the spice traders stopping there so long ago. also the beaches look really nice and there are all your standard activities. no idea about the seychelles. what about the canaries? or have you been already. those are pretty near you and i've heard good reports of them.
  15. i'd be catching this show... Lettuce (featuring Sam Kininger, Eric Krasno, Adam Deitch, Adam Smirnoff, Erik Coomes, Neal Evans, Ryan Zoidis & Rashawn Ross) will release their new album, "RAGE" on April 22 after which they will do a short national tour. In the mean time, Lettuce will be playing a pair of shows at the newly renovated Sullivan Hall on February 29 & March 1.

    Camp MMW

For Immediate Release Wednesday, February 27, 2008 MEDESKI MARTIN & WOOD INVITE YOU TO THEIR WORLD. READY? CAMP MMW: listenplaylearndiscoverinvent. CAMP MMW TO BE HELD AT FULL MOON RESORT IN CATSKILLS AUGUST 5 - 10 (New York, NY) -- This summer, pack up your instrument, open your mind, and enter the boundary-breaking world of Medeski Martin & Wood. Camp MMW is an incredible opportunity for musicians of varying levels and ages, to live and study with MMW in the Catskill Mountains. Campers will gather together for five days of intensive workshops and seminars, deep listening, musical exploration, and improvisation. "Our camp environment should be the perfect setting for self discovery, improvisation and interplay," says drummer Billy Martin. "Hopefully, we'll get students to focus and develop their own vocabulary and sound on their instruments." No matter what instrument an attendee plays, they will expand their approach to music, improve listening skills, and interact with other musicians in a completely fresh, innovative way. "Being a part of MMW for the past 17 years has taught me things you can't learn in school," says bassist Chris Wood. "I hope to pass some of that experience on to the students who come to our camp." Break with convention, bust out of safety zone, and dare to try new things. Think of Camp MMW as musical cross training. For example, a guitarist can study melody with keyboardist, John Medeski. Or a horn player can work on mastering rhythm with drummer, Billy Martin. A pianist may develop their groove with bassist, Chris Wood. There will be special guests, group collaborations, and, of course, exclusive performances by MMW. In the anything-goes, non-traditional atmosphere of Camp MMW, experimentation will be encouraged, limits tested, risks taken, and newfound freedom in the process. Adds keyboardist John Medeski, "It's been a dream of mine to get many musicians together to share creative ideas and that's exactly what I hope happens at Camp MMW." 80,000 acres of New York State's Catskill Mountain wilderness is the backdrop to the collective creative energy of Camp MMW. The lovely Full Moon Resort features charming accommodations in either their turn-of-the-century Catskill country inn known as the Valley View House, or one of seven lodges, cabins, or cottages. The Valley View House is the center of activities at Camp MMW, and offers cozy and comfortable common areas, including a wrap-around sun porch, library and the main dining room. A typical day at Camp MMW begins with a buffet breakfast with the band, from 8AM to 9AM, followed by a Master Class/Seminar with MMW at 9:30AM. At Noon, camp will break for a buffet lunch, from 12:15 to 1:15PM, followed by some free time until 2:45, when everyone will breaks into workshops groups with individual band members and special guests. At 6:00, everyone gathers for a seated dinner, followed by the evening's event, which might be a performance and jam sessions, or a film and discussion, a bonfire, a dance party, or who knows what! Campers will share most meals with John, Billy, and Chris, and participate in fun and exciting activities together throughout the week. Camp MMW runs from Tuesday, August 5th, to Sunday, August 10th, and is for musicians ages 16 and up. Space is limited to 80 students. Applicants must provide a recording of one's work. All instruments are welcome, with an interest in creating variety! Applications, along with pricing and detailed instructions, available on-line at www.mmw.net. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2008.
