  5. [color:orange]"We're bobbing on the surface..." Although there are endless highlights in any one show, here's one that stands out in my memory. 08-15-98 Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, ME Set 2: The Wedge > Reba, Gumbo > Sanity, Tweezer > The Horse > Silent In The Morning, Chalkdust Torture, Slave to the Traffic Light We'd been on tour in Summer 98 from Coloumbus OH through Lemonwheel (11 shows, skipped Alpine). Over the course of thoes couple of weeks we created a great bond between friends and the coumunity while trecking around in our 71 VW bus. Lemonwheel was a culmination of friends gathering with more than 20 in our sprawled out camp. After a heady Friday night disco party and a wonderfull afternoon set on Saturday, I split from the crew to explore. Thoes big festivals are such a trip, with the lot and the food and the vibe. I ended up in the common checking out the chainsaw wood art when I bumped into another explorer. We started talking about the art and our conversation just rambled, covering family, social responsabilaty, music, philosophy, etc. As we continued talking through a dinner of raw food, the combination of fuel, setting and openness just sent me soaring. Our conversation came to a natural end just as the opening notes of The Wedge played. I literally flew (arms flaping, running in big looping circles) barefoot through security and the back of the concert grounds, carried on a spiritual energy that stayed with me for the remainder of the day (segwaying into a sick Reba didn't hurt either). Hooked up with my crew and danced my heart out. I've had many transidental moments with Phish, but that one stands out as particulary magical.
  6. I second rustles prediction opener set I: the curtain with closer set II: YEM With a Reba second set Saturday night.

    Ubuntu

    I'm running xubuntu as my home server and debian on my desktop. All play well with my XP laptop and the squeeze network i have set up for streaming lossless tunes through my house. The biggest upside of open source software for me is the comunity support. If I have a networking issue or can't get a gimp plugin to work or any other kind of tech issue I can without a doubt find an answer in a forum somewhere. With windows that support isn't there, it "buy the upgrade" or use a different program". Another great factor is that its free. No more cracked warez... need a photo editor, get gimp for free, does everythong I could ever do with photoshop; media players there dozens, tivo - free, full devlopment suite - free. Mind you, they can take some futzin to get going the way you like, but thats part of the fun. {plus it feels just a little subversive}
  8. E&Y has an online calculator that will give you a good idea of how much tax is payable bassed on your income. Does not take into accout deductions and such but its a reasonable estimate of what you may be on the hook for. http://www.ey.com/global/content.nsf/canada/tax_-_Calculators_-_Overview
  9. I've had too many good times with Phish to miss another chance. Never saw GD (Phill a few times) so no plans to check out this tour. Gonna do a few UM shows though, really enjoying their energy. I've always been more into the music than the scene, but the energy of the masses really makes the moment. That said, as I've aged having someone along for the ride has become that much more important. A chance to reconect with an old friend over a weekend of music and smoke is a welcome break from reality. Truefully I'm almost as stoked about bluesfest and hillside as I am PhIsH.
  10. I've seen both moe and SCI at the Wilma Theatre in Missoula, MT. (circa 99 / 00, I belive) Worth the drive. Great road trip (from Van or Banff or Cowtown). Lots of kind folks in them parts. Beautiful scenery.
  11. Here's the updated link: http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php
  12. We stayed at the Melia Cayo Santa Maria. It was wonderful. All inclusive Adults only. The chain of Melia resorts is based in Spain, so they import a lot of their food from there; although the food was not extraordinary, it was better than expected. Beach was beautiful, not to crowded. Staff were friendly. Night life was a little low key, but we were in a group of 8 so we were a travailing party. In my opinion, Cuba is a much nicer vacation than Mexico. Fewer Americans and the staff are more genuine. Enjoy

  16. Pay no attention to the creative billionaires who created entire new industries Broadcom co-founder and billionaire Henry T. Nicholas lived the life of a hedonist, handing out hundreds of thousands of dollars of coke and Ecstasy at parties in drug dens constructed in houses he owned, supplying prostitutes to employees and clients, and paying off one employee to keep quiet about his partying ways, according to a federal indictment filed Thursday in California. Broadcom, a manufacturer of integrated circuits, went public in 1998 and now has more than 6,000 employees. In 2007, the company was forced to restate its financials to the tune of $2.24 billion, due to unreported back-dated stock options. In May, the Security and Exchange Commission charged him and three other employees of secretly backdating stock options for over five years. Among the allegations. At the Woodstock 1999 concert in Rome, New York, Nicholas drugged an unnamed tech executive with Ecstasy without his knowledge Nicholas's party planners gave him invoices for drugs, including one bill for $15,000 labeled "party favors for 300 hits of Ecstasy. In 2000 Nicholas built out a commercial warehouse and office space in Laguna Niguel, California with plush digs, including private rooms, to share and do drugs. In early 2000, while in New Orleans, Nicholas spiked another tech executive's drink with Ecstasy. In 2001, Nicholas directed subordinates to keep piles of coke, Ecstasy and meth, among other drugs on hand permanently at the Warehouse. In January 2001, to celebrate the Superbowl at his warehouse, Nicholas bought 225 tabs of Ecstasy. In 2001, on a private plane headed to Las Vegas, Nicholas and his crew smoked enough pot that the pilot had to don his oxygen mask to escape from the marijuana smoke and fumes. In 2001, Nicholas directed an employee to give an envelope of $5 to $10K in cash to a drug courier in exchange for an envelope of drugs. This hand-off happened in the lobby of Broadcom's offices in Irvine, California. In June 2002, Broadcom signed a settlement agreement with an employee, paying out $1 million for silence about Nicholas's illegal drug activities. From 2003 to 2006, Nicholas and friends conspired to get prescription drugs -- namely Vicoprofen (similar to the pain killer Vicodin) and Valium.
  17. Looks good, been a while since I've seen these guys, I'll try to make it to the ElMo.
  18. I've not read the world without us, but will add it to the list. I've shared the Chernobyl by motorcycle with several friends after seeing it here. One of the many good things I've stumbled upon from this site. The Chernobyl by motorcycle really struck me at the time, what a crazy experience to travel through a place that could invisibly kill you just by drifting from the center line on the road... Shared it with a friend who had escaped from east Germany while the iron curtain was up. She was intrigued and had stories to share about a total lack of care for the environment by the communist central government.
  19. I'll second the mantis vibe. Really enjoying the "Turn & Run" tune.
