  1. is it silent now for everyone...i just logged in.
  2. i've always wanted to check this out....ya never know bands
  3. it is too bad not many showed, but hey that is life. freedom of choice. sorry booche, i have to say though ottawa is not the best music city (i grew up there). i realize it has changed a bit, but even for bluesfest ya get your peeople telling you to sit down. i mean its music, dance peoeple! overall i feel it is just up from toronto in terms of the dancing factor. especially for bigger shows i find, ie. at scotiabank place. if you see a band there, then in montreal, the 'joie de vie' is missing. admittingly i was not there for the 'nero' years, which might of changed my mind about this. just my opinion.
  4. agreed! and no never ever had a problem going into another country. to relate to my earlier story...when I entered Guyana, same grateful dead t-shirt, backpack full of NOTHING but pharmaceutical drugs, and all th guy said was "doctor?" . i replied yes and that was it. imagine trying that going into the states to try and service some of their FIFTY MILLION people without health insurance.
  5. is it? so many lives have been lost and hurt to draw imaginary lines on this earth. it gets me angry just thinking about how much money the U.S. has put into increased security at the u.s./canada border since 9/11....helicopters, more people, more guns. as my bumper sticker says..."it will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the air force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber".
  6. you'd want different levels of treatment at the border depending on someone's perception of what the person does or believes? No AD, i dont. i want the SAME treatment at the border. the same treatment i give people, of all types and backgrounds. That being the treatment of people with respect and dignity. I read once of someone who said you dont have to gain my respect, I give everybody it right away, and its yours to lose. i agree with that person. my point was it really sucks to give your time, money and effort to try to make a difference, (and as a byproduct your helping give a good name to canadians) and to come back and get treated like s>>t while trying to enter you home country. i'm not sure why you posted your comment? did my tone actually come across as that's what i would want? it seems to me you added something completely extraneous to my ramblings.
  7. i've been treated horribly by both American and Canadian guards. the nicest guard---going into maine from new brunswick for a show...i'm sure some of you know its just that little booth, on the side of the highway. we drove right past it! debated....then decided to turn back to see if that was indeed the crossing. the guy said good morning, i'll have to take those oranges from ya, have a good show. worst time- coming back from guyana to canada. the canadian guards sequestered me, questioned me for TWO hours, alone, including yelling directly (like nose to nose) in my face. i wish i got their names, as i was seriously mistreated. of note, or maybe not, i was wearing a grateful dead tye dye.ahhh, thats what you get for doing volunteer medical work.....
  8. great read. feel sad about it. we manipulate EVERYTHING, and there is only so much things, including humans can take. who wants to find an island somewhere far and allow nothing to come in? canned beats?
  9. fittastic! i personally feel healthier already.
  10. love this place. booze or not. artwork on the wall, WOOD dance floor, candles on the table for light, no beer advertisements everywhere, and velvety curtain behind stage, all adds up to a small comfortable space to get lost in. had many many a good show there.
  11. i think any comment that tries to compare genocide with anything else usually rings cheap and hollow. Why even focus on it? Typical politicians, not focusing on the issue. Which by the way is why i like danny williams, as although my political views are very non-conservative, he answers questions directly, and fights for a better newfoudnland. PLEASE HELP SAVE DARFUR, spencer
  12. its hard to get oceanfront here (NL)...but watefront....on a lake you can find for WAY less than 70 000.
  13. saw him last tour in montreal...absolutely fantastic show.
  14. i think steponme...avatar represents this thread well.... thanks afropoppa, glad someone else liked it.
  15. i like this song...and i dont care who knows it. the video...she made it by getting people to submit an answer to "what would you do/want if anything were possible?" in three words or less. ... so what would you do?
  16. got my vote as well, but mr. mugs is a good memory. "and i'll stil sing you love songs..."
  17. Seinnheiser...is what i have, but they are not earbuds. i like over the ear...but not too big/djstyle (not a cup). the sound is amazing, serioulsy good. i wear them over my toque...figure better for my long-term hearing, and have had no problems. the model is px-100. they are the fold up ones, which i like cause although they are pricey 80 bucks at the source, they come with a case and hence dont bust when i throw them in my bag. i've ahd them for over a year, and before would be buying headphones every three or four months. it would be great if shops had earphone booths,...wear you could listen to several headphones before buying them. canadian dealer... amazon reviews.
  18. i love strange design...got it at my first show and been hooked since.
  19. if you could hear them play one song again...what would it be.... mine is YEM.
  20. infuriating...and sad. denying this guy entry under 'blanket rules'. what happend to common sense? who needs lawyers, consulates, governors, and politicinas to sort this out? all it takes is for the custom guard to use his head AND have the authority to use it. in day to day life so many people are so disempowered to make even the most minor decisions on their job. you have to speek to the manager or phone some hot line...just empower the person! brief story severly edited as gotta jet...transporting really really sick kid from st. john's to toronto, and after waiting for half hour (which doesnt seem like much, but literally is a lifetime) ambulance gets there and wouldnt give his liscence to the airport securtiy to photocopy so he can drive up to the plane....the pilot argues with the guy, i go out and argue with the guy...to no avail. this guy would rather see me wheel a sick baby across 100meteres of tarmac, in the freezing cold, and the child has the most precarious 'tube' holding his airway open. there was just no way. ANYONE with common sense, medical or not would realzie too many bad variables in this situation. ANYONE with common sense would just give up their liscence, i mean its not to some bar, its the friggin airport! the two security guys, young, mid 20's, piercings, say, we will deal with the consequences (which could include getting fired) and let the ambulance go up to the plane to try to get the kid to the hospital faster. common sense. i'll still visit for shows, visit friends and relatives etc, but still feel completely uncomfortable with the idea of the taxes i pay down there going to support stuff like more guards, guns, and b.s. like the article. especially as millions suffer with no health insurance.
  21. i guess thats how you got your screen name...
  22. i thought this movie was pretty bad. didnt like much about it at all.
