  1. I stayed at one of the best hotels in Old Havana in August for three days: the NH Parque Central Hotel . It's a really good hotel, in the heart of Old Havana. I wish my wife and I stayed longer in Havana. It's a fascinating place, but the exhaust/oil fumes are often over-powering. But, you certainly will understand what Havana once must have looked like back in the 50's. It would have been glorious. The city still is dignified in it's own way, but it needs a lot of renewal and revitalization. I also stayed four days and nights at Varadero's Sandals Royal Hicacos. Even though one main building was under construction at the time, the place is beautiful with the best beach you'll ever see. I'll go back to both places. Cuba is by far the best place I've visited in the Caribbean and South America. It's one of the riches poor countries in the world, with proud, respectful and educated people.
  2. Tom Waits is a no-brainer headliner in my books, but of course he is soooo 1975. Even though they'd be predictable inclusions, The Ranconteurs would kick ass at Bonnaroo.
  3. This is a 'satirical' bit by an Aussie program ala Rick Mercer. Anyone with a bit of comic flair can create a segment making a group of people out as ignorant idiots, but this is still pretty funny and a little scary, especially near the end: http://www.shoutfile.com/v/gSfSsCpR/Why_People_Believe_Americans_Are_Stupid
  4. I should have said: The Raptors are first in the pathetic Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference.

    McGwire

Are Cal and Tony the only one's to get in this year, player-wise? In my books, Jim Rice and Jack Morris should have gotten selected too.
  6. The NBA East is the worst division in all of pro sports. However, I'd rather be first in the East than where the Knicks are sitting.
  7. True, but Wajid is an elected Liberal official that defected to the Conservatives. I believe this makes it a bit of a special case. If I voted for Wajid in his riding I'd be pissed.

    Love songs

Um, I believe that's by blues great Etta James. I own her album of the same name.
  9. Oh, I think there is truth in this story, but I'm skeptical of the witnesses. I heard it happened at a campus bar when Mutombo went to Georgetown - that was in the late 80's to 1991.
  10. I've heard that story told on Jim Rome's show and on The Fan in Toronto. It may be an urban legend.
  11. All those artists are worthy of the Hall. The Ronnette's deserve to be there as they remain one of the great woman-led R&B bands... and the brain-child of a lunatic genius and murderer.
  12. One disappointing thing is that you'll miss the freak of nature Yao Ming. He's injured. Phoenix has three of the top players in the league: Shawn Marion, Amari Stoudamire and Steve Nash. Houston still has former Raptors Tracy McGrady (one of the NBA's best players) and the lunatic Rafer Alston.

    Rocky Balboa

The fights are the weakest parts of the good Rocky movies. I like that Sly cast a truly great fighter as his main opponent, ex-light heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver (as Mason Dixon). If you know boxing, then you know that Tarver kicked the shit out of Mr. Overrated Roy Jones Jr. twice. He lost one of his belts last year to Bernard Hopkins.

    Love songs

One love song to seek out is "Mary" from Pete Townshend's first Scoop album (a series of demo albums). "Mary" is haunting and beautiful, featuring a pre-Who's Next Townshend accompanied only by his classic or Spanish guitar. The song was later recorded by The Who and intended to be on Who's Next, but the master was destroyed in a fire. One of the best ever non-Who Who songs IMO... and I'm right.
  15. Part of the problem with Greg is that he's a follower socially and professionally. He needs someone to tell him what's good and what isn't and since he has no peers as a solo performer, the suck rises to the top.
  16. My friend here at my work got tickets in March for one show. On another note, Timmy please tell us how you liked Greg Allman. I have no personal interest in seeing Greg live. I don't care for his solo work. Greg's pop-R&B solo style isn't a good one for my ears.
  17. Here's a link to the '87 Canadian roster. I believe Shanahan did some major damage to a couple of Ruskies: http://www.hockeycanada.ca/1/9/3/2/index1.shtml
  18. Whatever this dude's intention, he also posted his promo in the Youtube section.

One of the worst songs ever.

We selected Passing Afternoon by Iron and Wine as our wedding song. It's as beautiful as love songs get: http://www.myspace.com/ironandwine
  21. My wife is nine years younger than me, but we were both shocked at our age difference when we first started to get to know each other. That being said, I don't care how old she is: I want to see Sophia Loren naked.
  22. I don't think it would do well even with better teams and/or better match-ups. However, I think a March Madness regional would do a lot better, especially if a Michigan or Syracuse was in said region.
