  1. It's a pretty freaky story. Did you see the picture of the a very much alive giant squid in the Toronto Star from yesterday?
  2. Luke, what's with all of the "last week's news" posts?
  3. My all-time favourite atheist:
  4. This pic may get yanked soon, but here it is. He looks like Peter Sellers in a pirate disguise:
  5. Happy Birthday Holly from Uncle David "Jaimoe" Ball and Aunt Vicki.
  6. The last track on Chulahoma is actually a taped phone message from Junior Kimbrough's widow to the Keys telling them that she is very proud of them - they are the "about the only ones" that have gotten Junior. Man, I got chills listening to that.
  7. I think you'll like Magic Potion and the Kimbrough albums best of all.
  8. Anyone else hip to The Black Keys? I just picked up their latest album Magic Potion and was floored. I have their breakthrough album Thickfreakness from a few years back, but Magic Potion is heavier in the blues and rocks like Led Zeppelin I. I'm listening to their 2006 EP Chulahoma - their last ever release for Fat Possum. It's a tribute to the late North Mississippi delta great Juniour Kimbrough. It's as dirty as Kimbrough and should smack The North Mississippi Allstars back to North Mississippi Delta training school.
  9. Not only do I think this is the best blues album of the year, I think it's one of the best albums in 2006 period. Heavy blues at it's Free-meets- Muddy Waters finest:
  10. I'm loving seeing The Stooges getting a new album out this coming year: The Weirdness. The Ashton brothers and Iggy, plus Mike Watt filling in on bass. Even original sax player Steve MacKay is on board. Steve Albini was the producer.
  11. I knew about this show but I have to work that night. I really like their re-issued Cyborgs Revisited album - I've been meaning to get it to Booche.
  12. Most Epiphones if not all are made in Korea - and as you know the Mississippi Delta runs through Seoul - but I think they are a good buy as off-shore guitars go. Epiphone makes their own specific models, so I doubt there's a Gibson equivalent. You can find some decent vintage guitars that could fall in the grand price range, but you gotta get lucky... and not set your sights on Gibson. However, have you ever tried the off-shore Gretch's? They fall in the $600-800 range at Steve's, even though the sales guys there are notorious pricks.
  13. How much is the Epiphone? I believe it's made in Korea, if that matters to you.
  14. He did well in some of the pre-season games, but he never did recover from his groin injury. I'm pulling for him to do well in the DL.
  15. I know horror master Clive Barker has written a couple of kids books, if monster/kids books is what you are after?
  16. As much as I loved Carmelo at Syracuse, I haven't liked him at all as a pro, even though he's a hell of a player. My favourite players from the Orangemen's NCAA Championship team were Gerry "Hey, I'm in the NBADL" McNamara and Hakeem Warrick (my vote for most improved player this year... so far). Warrick and McNamara in fact are in my Top 5 favourite NCAAers ever.
  17. I haven't read it (or even heard of it for that matter), but I do know that Ahmet is an annoying nutcase - like all the Zappa kids and Gail are. With all the great books out there, why waste money on this one?

    Heroes

Agreed, since we are well into another 'golden age of television'.

    Heroes

It plays out like a more produced version (and I mean huge $$) of I Claudius, but through the eyes (mostly) of two gladiators. Julius Caesar and Marc Antony are perfectly cast too.
  20. I love that Deadwood takes George Hearst's brief stay in the Deadwood camp and creates a fascinating character out of almost nothing, making him illiterate (subtly veiled), ruthless, terrifying and yet polite - even to Farnum. Major Dad and Simon & Simon never looked so bad. Carnivà le is terrific creepy TV. Ron Moore is a fantastic producer/writer (See Battlestar Galactica).
  21. I agree, but I'd take the oldest looking teenager I've ever seen play ball if I had 1st pick in the draft next season, Ohio State's centre Greg Oden. I can't seem to post his picture. Google him for proof.

I did get you wrong, but now I stand happily corrected. You could also add in Battlestar Galactica, Dexter, Rome, Arrested Development, Band Of Brothers and Rescue Me and even Lost and Prison Break. Bones is one of my favourite shows too. Not to forget the BBC Office, the US Office and Extras.
  23. Happy Birthday you drum hack! See you in January.
