  1. I haven't heard anything. I'm planning on getting there between 9:00pm and 9:30pm. Aloha, Brad
  2. I want it. Will either/both of you be at Cafe Dekcuf tomorrow night? What hotel are you staying at in Toronto? Aloha, Brad
  3. Ooooohhhh...tempting...Friday, Dec. 1: Gov't Mule @ Kool Haus; Saturday, Dec. 2: Mr. Something Something @ Gypsy Co-op; Monday, Dec. 4: The Who @ ACC / Sisters Euclid @ Orbit Room... Is the seat with you (and Velvet?)? Seriously interested, Brad
  4. It's been a Staff Pick for a bunch of weeks now; it's also the only Lauzon show to have been reviewed, and it got 3/5 stars, with no real heavy complaints about the music or the recording. As I type, it's been downloaded 244 times, dang close to 250. "My name is Brad M., and I'm a taper." "Hi, Brad!" Aloha, Brad
  5. According to http://www.myspace.com/mavericksbar The Jimmy Swift Band will be at Mavericks in Ottawa on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 (one week after the second of the nero re-union shows). Aloha, Brad
  6. You're pretty cranky on a Friday afternoon. I think you need a hug. Aloha, Brad
  7. They're also OK with being recorded, but they're not (yet) part of the Live Music Archive. Aloha, Brad
  8. Are those the only two choices? I think there should be another one: practice. (That is, welding is neither [purely] an art nor [purely] a science; instead, it's a practice that has both aesthetic properties [especially for decorative items] and scientific/technologic properties.) Aloha, Brad

    Free Hugs

He's just disappointed because he misread the subject and thought it was about free nugs. Aloha, Brad
  10. I don't think so. (When does it start to look like Kwaanza?) Aloha, Brad
  11. Grateful Dead 1990-03-29, Set II. This one has Branford Marsalis guesting, and is allegedly some kind of matrix (Healy, maybe?), but is still downloadable. Aloha, Brad
  12. Not quite. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gin_and_tonic Aloha, BRAD (Been Reading About Drinks)
  13. I would suggest you wear a raincoat. wow. if so' date=' i suggest you come in with full on gear, wading boots, oars, some mode of sending a SOS signal and a fish finder.[/quote'] I'm now imagining a socio-religious debate sketch, performed by, say, CODCO, with the participants being caricatures of full-on Newfoundlanders (complete with heavy accents and hugely exaggerated physical and vocal mannerisms). Aloha, Brad
  14. If you're looking for some fun in Ottawa tonight, DJ D-Mass, who's been spinning on Thursdays before/between sets by The Souljazz Orchestra*, will be doing his last night at Babylon tonight, even if The Souljazz Orchestra isn't playing. With more time to stretch out, it should be even more fun. Aloha, Brad * And who is also in Inglewood Jack with me.
  15. "Battered Fish Schticks" is even better. Aloha, Brad
  16. To be able to attend the BNB 10th anniversary show. Aloha, Brad
  17. I doubt it, but you could easily duck downstairs (or go on the way in) and get them at Mavericks. If you're there early enough (before 10pm, say), you could just tell whoever's at the door that you need/want to go to the bar to buy tickets, which should mean you wouldn't have to pay cover. Aloha, Brad
  18. Back in university, we knew it was time for our (winter) tree-decorating party when egg nog showed up in Becker's Milk stores. I never figured out how we knew when it was time for the spring tree-decorating party... Aloha, Brad
  19. I think you mean you have "temporal displacement disorder (retrogade)". Aloha, Brad
  20. Part of me thinks that the reason they went with this is that there simply aren't enough bands in Ottawa that can do a two- or three-set night (call it at least two hours of music), week after week, without having it get seriously boring or repetitive. The Souljazz Orchestra are all educated musicians who can read charts, and were able to draw on a huge repertoire of material (covers and originals); I think most other bands in Ottawa would exhaust their repertoise after one or two weeks. Aloha, Brad
  21. The only thing I can think of is that Babylon is trying to get spillover from Barrymore's (I've seen 50-100 person line-ups to get in to Barrymore's at midnight on a Thursday). I think the only way I'd get to one of these nights is as a warm-up for something else, because it's free; but I doubt it's going to start early enough to work as a pre-show thing, and it's not exactly close to any other venue I'd want to go to (if Babylon were in the Byward Market, it might be different). Aloha, Brad
  22. ropeadope records (home of MMW and others) has a podcast series, and the 13-10-06 one is the second one devoted to Herbie Hancock. It kicks off with a live recording of "Hang Up Your Hangups" from 1975. Aloha, Brad
  23. I don't think The Slip is "going with this"; I get the feeling she's doing this herself, without any involvement from the band. Aloha, Brad

    Free Hugs

If I got on a bus which you were driving, I'd hug you. But I'd need a hug transfer if it was a POH ("Proof Of Hug") bus. Aloha, Brad
