Hip Hop For Haters

so a buddy of mine created a 4 disc compilation that he called Hip Hop For Haters.

He put the compilation together to give to people who say they hate hip hop music. What he was trying to do was show people that hip hop is so much more than the top 40 crap that gets all the radio play (50 Cent, Puff Daddy, etc) and it's not all about hos, bitches and popping caps in asses.

I'm not trying to say that people here think that about hip hop.. just giving you the guy's motive for putting together these compilations.

Anyway.. I'm going to share them here. I've loaded up the first disc onto sendspace.com and I'll load the other three over the next couple of days.

Download, listen, enjoy, share!

I'll probably check this out but Beck is kind of stretching the definition of hip hop really.

why would you say that man?

I guess we'd have to come up with a definition of hip hop then eh.. but that particular Beck track I'd be more than happy to call hip hop.

And if we want to get really technical none of this stuff is hip hop.. hip hop is a culture, rap is the music of hip hop.

Volume 2 coming soon

I've been singing Busdriver, Aesop Rock and lately MF Doom's praises for a bit. Looks like a great mix. Lost my Busdriver disc after a Slip show in Montreal, Brad and I were hanging out with some American kids in a hotel room left and I forgot the disc and one of them swiped it by the time I doubled back (like 2 minutes later). Fucking Yanks -except for the Slip.

It's Beck doing hip hop but it's not hip hop. I like my music genres defined fairly rigidly. Not that you'll get a definition out of me. Much like obscenity, I just know it when I see it. ;)

Thanks man!

Very nice. I'll give it a spin...

MF Doom is a favorite right now. The Dangerdoom disc is on heavy rotation in my media player.

Sounds great so far... Too bad about Atmosphere, he's top notch. What about Eyedea and Abilities? There are so many good things out there... Jean Grae... Sage Francis

Busdriver was supposed to open the Islands show on Monday night at Babylon but got held up somewhere...

Thanks for the mixes, look forward to the next two

ooo I love Boom Bip... Saw him (them) last year and it wasn't really a hip hop show, it was all live instruments with a bit of vocals, very different from the recorded material but still very good.
