man...i'm lucky i'm not marrying any of you guys...

rock around the clock??

boot scootin boogie??

i guess it's what gets people dancin but man...that's one ting i'll be dreadin if i ever get hitched is people requesting hideously revolting tunes.

music is what always ruined weddings for me. stags too. i don't think there's been too many medding-related parties that I felt like i wasn't wasting my time at because i felt compelled to leave the party.

I agree with you Canned Beats! Weddings and Stag & Doe's are absolute hell. Weird crowds, shitty drinks, shittier music. The only saving grace with this one is that I am DJ'ing it. That being said, what I am really looking for, in addition to all the great wedding 'classics' that megrocker has conjured up for me, are the great 'i-can't-believe-i-just-played-that-and-everyone-danced-to-it' songs. I love throwing in some 'Dead, some Phish, some Herbie Handcock, some Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Cha's, et cetera. So if anyone knows any great party songs that are not wedding 'classics' that you'd appreciate hearing at a 'stag & doe', then please let me know those. Please take into account that this will be a mixed crowd. This means that 27 minute versions of 'Chalkdust Torture' are just not going to cut it. The real challenge with this particular stag & doe is that the 'bride-to-be' is a huge country music fan, and the 'groom-to-be' is a huge heavy metal fan. Now, I can probably find enough heavy stuff for the 'groom-to-be' but I'm really at a loss with respect to 'pop-country' (new country?). I can cover lots of 'real' country but that's about it.

All advice would be greatly appreciated.

Love and Peace!

Yup, my point.

Then again, I've gone through more husbands than cars.

Well, I don't know how the Dead would really fly at a wedding but it depends on your clientele. The most "Dance Friendly" song that comes to mind for a non-dead afficonado crowd would be Franklin's Tower. A giddy-up version from the late 70's or 80's.

Miami Sound Machine is also a favorite, second only to Hall and Oates, Live in Stuttgart.

Did you already have Vanilla Ice on there? What about Sugar Hill Gang? I've seen grannies shake their ass to old skool non-offensive hip hop (although if you're not happy with your pay at the gig put on Fear of aa Black Planet and walk away from it all)
