AD Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Can anyone recommend a data recovery firm that does fast, quality work in SW Ontario (London, KW, Hamilton, Toronto)? My dad lost a ton of very important data tonight with no backups (yes yes he now knows) and absolutely needs to get anything he can restored ASAP. Price is no object. If you can recommend a company that would be great, thanks.
NewRider Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I can't recommend a company but can indentify with the problem and I hope he gets it all worked out.
Booche Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Wow.Thousands dude. If it's necessary, he will find them.

bouche Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 has he tried using any software? I lost an entire drive and after getting a ridiculous quote for recovery (all my photos), I found a piece of software called GetDataBack which recovered everything.I'm guessing if you're being charged $1000/hr, that also means all the processing time. It can take a while to process, and copy recovered files to a good drive.

secondtube Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 i used the same software as bouche when i deleted a few thousand fishing photo's from the last three years...worked like a charm. however, the drive was not corrupted...just i screwed up and deleted them.
AD Posted October 16, 2008 Author Report Posted October 16, 2008 in this case the drive was formatted by windows. i'll look up that software, thanks
secondtube Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 hmmm, when i was in my local shop here in hamilton, they mentioned their new data recovery software can retrieve lost data on a formatted drive. ALNC Computers in Hamilton.
elemeno Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 if you simply deleted files or formatted a drive try software first. the place i know is more for damaged or dropped drives with physical damage.
bouche Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 i can try and find the version that I used tonight.
larry_llama Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 i am in hamilton and i can try a few things and it wont be $1000 per hour, i can promise you that.if you wanted to bring it by, i could take a look and if i can help, we can work out something nice. if it's beyond my skills, no charge, no harm trying.just be careful (physically) with the drive. no bumps, no bruises, no accidental mis-connections!
Davey Boy 2.0 Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 AD's Dad's gonna be smoking bombers with larry_llama!
\/\/illy Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I've used a place on behalf of a customer before and was pleased with them. I think it was about $500 and they provide a external USB drive with all the data on it. Worked like a charm. Send me a PM if you want the contact information.
bouche Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 http://www.sendspace.com/file/dmzhlvhere's the version of getdataback that I would have used.
Kanada Kev Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Here's another one:http://movierush.blogspot.com/2008/10/recover-lost-data-3122.htmlLet me know if you want it and i'll get it for ya.
CyberHippie Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 (edited) Take heed of this warning folks. I noted this thread and thought I'd better back up. But I didn't. Suddenly my hard drive is really cooked... I've retreived some stuff from it. Day three of the data recovery is still underway. I'm now 20 hours into a spinrite recovery scan, and it's only 51% percent done... It's bringing some sectors back to life though...The real puzzle is what happened... Outlook just started messing up then I couldn't even start. During one boot there was report of a rootkit. However it kind of seems like that wasn't it. Spinrite is suggesting physical damage to the sectors.Back up your stuff so you won't be a sucka! Edited October 23, 2008 by Guest
