ollie
You probably won't get a better price anywhere other than Best Buy or Future Shop, especially since both price match and you can even wheel and deal a little at Future Shop.RedFlagDeals.com is a good place to do some research. Gateaux
Why Plasma over LCD?
Gateaux
If you aren't looking to break the bank there are tv's at Costo for good prices. One brand...can't remember the name is made by LG and actually gets great reviews. I saw a 40" LCD there this weekend for around 600$
Northern Wish
Why Plasma over LCD? I am buying this TV primarily for sports. I've been told to stay away from LCDs if thats the primary viewing pleasure. Something to do with the refresh rate and picture clarity when there is lots going on.Was the Costco a Dynex or Insignia? Booche
Dont buy into the notion that plasma are for sports. Gateaux has a 120hz (refresh rate) lcd that makes sport look sick.
Northern Wish
I also just got told something else entirely- that the new LCDs are great if they are 120hz. Anyone else care to comment, please??
LJFH
Hey, Hey, Hey....said TV is not JUST for sports.....I like'm watch tv too ya know. :susel: hehehehehe!
Northern Wish
PRIMARILY was the key word.....
bouche
LCD 120 hz will be old news soon, with LED taking over. plasma is great for refresh but only really good if you don't have a bright room.if you end up getting an LCD, 120HZ or 240HZ are your options.I have to say that SAMSUNG has been killing with their panels in the last few years. Northern Wish
The best set I have seen so far in person was the Samsung 50" Plasma model. But there is now way we are dropping $1500+....
LJFH
I'll drop something baby, but it won't be $1,500.
bouche
The best set I have seen so far in person was the Samsung 50" Plasma model. But there is now way we are dropping $1500+....i chose the PN650 and it is fantastic but the room has no windows to let light in. Now, it was much more than $1599 18 mths ago. They have certainly come waaaaay down in price.ps, it was purchased at Breault & Martineau in gatineau. They sold it minus GST + PST.We had it delivered to Ottawa, and there is some sort of trick where they don't have to charge you taxes if you are shopping out of province and have the item delivered, PLUS the retailer cannot have a shop in your province either. It's up to you to pay the taxes to your province. I'm not sure if they'll always do that, but they wanted to make the sale and that was the only way for them to beat the Futureshop price. Northern Wish
Anyone care to comment on the 720 v. 1080 factor?I heard that 1080 is the way to go obviously, but if I can save a couple of hundo and I don't intend to get a Blue Ray or gaming system will I notice? Kanada Kev
If you get an antennae and pull in HD signals off air then you will definitely notice the 1080p. The same goes for a properly connected bluray player. From what I know, most of the bradcast TV that you get via cable/sat is coming in at 720. Northern Wish
I'll be getting the HD pack- will I notice it there too or just for 'grabbed' signals? Found a 47" at BBuy thats $1500 but Audiotronic has it for $950. With BBuys Price Match that would make it $850. Its an LCD at 720. Starting to think from what I'm being told- that I should just save some money now, buy a good deal and really invest in the new LEDs in a year or so when I have a bit more of a budget. Basher
Keep in mind that 3DTV is on the way, and you will need to have a "3D compatible" TV to take advantage.
Gateaux
Most HD tv is broadcast in 720P so seeing both and not speaking to anything else you will not see much of a difference. The picture is still beautiful, but you may as well go 1080 as you will want a PS3.
Northern Wish
In my life I have spent no more than 20 hours in front of a video game:5 of those were at BoochesI'll give 5 to various Rock Band partiesThe other 10 were when I was 11- playing Blades of Steel.Fuck man if only pinball machines were about $60 each.... Velvet
Pinball machines are surprisingly cheap. I got mine (Truck Stop - great game) for $700, with multiball.I'm thinking about getting another.
bouche
1080p is definitely the way to go. But you don't need the internet's permission to save alot of money and buy a 720p tv.
