ollie
Just what is that nightmarish industrial factory looming to your left as you approach Toronto? It's made of concrete and the architecture looks impossible. Help!
Super Freak
I'm assuming your approaching TO from the east. If you're talking about the area around bowmanville/oshawa I would guess you mean St Mary's cement Factory. I used to have a beach house on Lake Toxario and the blasts would shake my walls. Is that the area you mean?

ollie
Yeah, coming from the east. That sounds about right. The part that freaks me out is the "tubular" part that's made out of conrete. Freaks me out everytime I pass it and I always mean to find out what it is. Thanks! Tubular....almost sounds like Darlington Nuclear Plant which is east ot Toronto, but those stacks are easy to figure out since of the curve in them,I worked there awhile back and it is an freaky place to say the least. But SF is probally right about what yer talking about. Super Freak
Yeah, it's very scarey to look at. I think they haul gravel in that tube...I could be wrong there though. Cheers.
Guest Low Roller
Everytime I drive by that thing, I think of that chemical plant in the first Batman movie.
Esau
Doesit look like this?If so its Darlington Nuclear.
Super Freak
If it's the one I'm thinkin' the tube is on a diagnal, kinda ladderish. Esau, is the DNPP in Whitby or around there...I'm forgetting. The Cement Factory I'm thinking about is outside of Bowmanville which is East of Oshawa. Concrete jungle all over that area anyway. Esau
Actually, the more I think of it its about 50km or 60km east of TO, Durham Region I guess, probally the place your talking about, not Darlington.
c-towns
Its definatly the cement plant and those blasts are coming from tunnels about 1-3km's long under Lake Ontario

ollie
No, it's not the nuclear plant. That looks downright pleasant by comparison. I'd love to be able to stop and get some photos. It's such an evil looking complex.
DevO
reminds me of that god-awful-looking industrial site that you pass on the right before you get to canmore when driving from calgary.. the site of that plant nestled amongst the beautiful rockies always left a foul taste in my mouth. let's get them too. m moohehaehheahe
bouche
The Cement factory is quite old though eh? My Uncle used to work there when I was a kid, and I think we got to go there once and we got free samples of portland cement. I remember that I got to ride the conveyer belt all the way to the mixer. However, we weren't allowed to ride the mixer with the aggregate in it. Apparantly, it was a WHMIS issue. The Cracker Factory
