Big Wooly Mammoth
http://www.peakoil.net/ I was going to respond with the same thing! The world of mad max and the road warrior doesn't seem that far fetched any more.
Big Wooly Mammoth
but hey - let's just keep investing in the tar sands. we wouldn't want to be investing in alternatives and become world leaders in alternative energy production and technology. nope - let's follow our neighbours to the south as they move towards third world status. Are they the worlds first "undeveloping" country?
Big Wooly Mammoth
the bad news isn’t over The Canadian government has taken the approach that “what’s good for big oil is good for Canada,†McTeague said. “It’s driving the price to the breaking point for many people.â€[color:purple]REALLY?!? our government isn't trying to help out the consumer? they are friends of big oil. who new? at least we've got stability. imagine the chaos otherwise. Are they the worlds first "undeveloping" country?Governments bailing out dinosaur car companies was a short-term fix too. And those fuckers (GM, Ford etc...) still aren't investing enough into alternative technologies... and they had the time. No matter in the long run. Less reliance on cars is healthier for the environment in the long-run.

Velvet
Could be worse, I suppose.A random sampling of world gas prices from wiki, in US dollars per litre:Eritrea $2.13 Estonia $1.80 Finland $2.30 France $2.28 Germany $2.30 Greece $2.29 From the same list, I see in Libya gas is only seventeen cents a litre. Thorgnor
None of the countries you listed (other than Libya) produce gas... we do.This is plain, outright thievery.and yes, it could be way worse.
Freak By Night
....in the long run. Very appropriate comment Jaimoe - we'll be making many a long run when gas is no longer affordable.
Freeker
We're on the declining side of peak oil, only thing that can be done is to destroy demand and the only way to do that is to make it so expensive that no one can afford it. This is just the beginning Edited May 11, 2011 by Guest
