I would also HIGHLY recommend a bit of software that is not free, but super cheap and worth the money. It's called Total Audio Converter. My favourite part is the fact that it can take out some DRM (digital rights management) from files like Audio Books so you can archive them, or put them on a CD. It works great for every file format except that crazy SHN. I do wish people would dump SHN. It needs a license for software developers and hinders music sharing due to the file format. FLAC is probably the best format to stick to for lossless.
