  1. Isn't this the same Denis Armstrong who said Neil Young was a sure thing to play at the Bluesfest? 'nuff said!
  2. I caught all of, or at least a good chunk of, these performances: Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Further, Moody Blues, Steve Hackett, B-52s, Hole, Babe Ruth, Roger Hodgson, Flaming Lips, The Bush Pilots, Rush, Sarah Harmer, Cat Empire, Arcade Fire, Steve Winwood, Santana, Old Crow Medicine Show, Matt Andersen, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi, Stars, Ronnie Baker Brooks, The Hold Steady, The Musical Box, Joe Krown Trio, Jimmy Cliff, Foghat I don't want to limit my faves to a top 3 - almost everything was really good. I was pleasantly surprised by the Cat Empire, and a bit disappointed by Stars. For the first time ever at the Bluesfest, I encountered absolutely no hostility from the lawnchair nation. Another pleasant surprise!
  3. David Gilmour to appear at a Roger Waters show of his choice and play Comfortably Numb
  4. Today's Ottawa Citizen has an article about the culinary delights of Chicago in the travel section. I don't think the article is on-line - I'll save the paper for you if you don't have it yourself.
  5. I know the father of those boys quite well. Anyone remember the band Jehova's Wetness? He sang and played guitar for them. He's done a great job with the musical training of his kids.
  6. Amazing night last night. Old Crow Medicine Show was a lot of fun, Trucks/Tedeschi just blew me away! I anticipate spending the remainder of the 'fest at the smaller stages (except the Black Sheep tent - it seems so uninviting to me.)

    Poutine Crawl

Good luck AD! I've had the Murray Street restaurant spatzle/duck poutine. Very interesting!
  8. Ugh. When I saw that article earlier today, I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st. I guess you could say we're in the dog days of summer.
  9. Not to be outdone, and in keeping with the Bluesfest Hollywood theme (which is lame IMO) Santana had Lou Diamond Phillips as part of his rhythm section last night.
  10. My solution is: if it's too loud, you're too old! Now get away from the front my lawnchair. Seriously though, they could have had the Swell Season scheduled for a different time, or, even better, had them play in the indoor auditorium, the Ted Danson theatre or whatever it's called. There was also another letter a couple of days ago, someone complaining about the lack of real blues acts. I'd respond to that complaint by saying that there aren't enough bankable blues acts in the world to fill a 12-day festival.
  11. RIP George! I wonder if this means the Yankees will be allowed to grow facial hair now.
  12. Thanks so much for the great recording Brad! Just downloaded it this morning.
  13. It was all about Babe Ruth for me last night. They rocked! Called back for two encores. Funny thing was, in the 2nd encore they played a song they had already played! Ran out of material, I guess.
  14. Much better than Armstrong's review! Good work Mr. 2.0
  15. Review in the Sun by Armstrong - and surprise! It's full of mistakes!
  16. Moody Blues and Hackett for us too, CCC - see you there! Perhaps some B52s later on in the evening.
  17. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/3248055.bin Can't get the image to display here for some reason, but check it out! A few of our local deadheads.
  18. Oh man, I enjoyed that so much. I think almost everyone I know was there last night!
  19. Triple guitar attack! I thought the entire evening was great. DT and IM are two of my faves. I did not go home disappointed! I liked that Iron Maiden concentrated on the later material from their catalog. I'm not as familiar with those songs, but they were great. And the really old stuff they played - Wrathchild, Running Free, etc. was just great. Edit to add: Bruce Dickinson is probably the most athletic rock singer around. I got exhausted watching run and leap all over the stage!
  20. Holy moly! that free show at the race track / casino was full of would-be, and also several actual carnies. We got there right when the gates opened, so we went right up front. You should have seen some of the characters up there. One double-fisting, chain smoking, brown toothed fellow, was annoying and hilarious at the same time. He wrote down his name and asked me to send the photos I shot of the show through facebook. I checked out his profile - everything's in capital letters. A fun time was had by all. Getting back to the topic though: I heard that some Lilith Fair concerts were canceled today because of sluggish ticket sales.
  21. Hey Booche & dave-O, it was great running into you guys - sitting just a few rows in front of me at the CMAC! Mixed feelings about Gonchar, he's a great defenceman and good offensively too, but $5.5M a year is pricey. Should have put the money towards Volchenkov? Not sure how much Volchenkov will sign for with another team. An interesting free agent "frenzy" so far.
