Speaking of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, you can't forget Forest Whitaker who had a minor role in that movie. Similar to Sean Penn, Whitaker moved on to meatier roles and he won awards for his work in "Bird" and "The King of Scotland".

Can you blame him? Apparently the song being played was "Sloppy Seconds" by George Clinton & The P-Funk All-Stars.

I saw that coming Booche! Still though, my point holds true with modern cash registers. You're counting out change instead of pushing buttons, and your customer is merrily on his way sooner.

When I was 19 I worked at a very busy convenience store. When the boss trained me, he trained me to NOT punch in the amount tendered (that is, the amount the customer gives me) into the cash register. Instead, I was to count the change up to the amount tendered. "When you get used to it, it's much faster" he said. I was very skeptical, but he was definitely right. After a couple of shifts, I did indeed find it much faster make change that way.

I did say 'wrong' in my post. However, I did not say 'stupid'. I see your point about "more than one right way". Most people, I think, can do simple math calculations in their head, but many are unwilling to even try because they've become reliant on the calculator or cash register.

My brain is also a "device built to do math operations". It can figure out 15% of 20 faster than anyone can do it on a calculator.

You are right Bouche, in that context. But - when somebody has to use a calculator to figure out 15 per cent of a $20 restaurant bill, well that's just wrong.

I attended just one month of the first grade in the USA. Later in life I read some of Zinn's work. That tiny amount of history they taught me in that one month was complete B.S.

I found "A People's History of the United States" to be an excellent read. RIP Mr. Zinn

I find it amusing that, in the jamband world, discussions about The Dave Matthews Band are often preceded by an apologetic statement that leaves the discussor's affections for the band purposefully ambiguous. That's not directed to you NW, nor to anyone in particular on this board. It's just something I noticed when meeting new people at Phish concerts.

My favorite at Chances R is the "beef and balkan" dish, roast beef and cheesy pasta. Marsh's is typical BBQ fare: Ribs, wings, burgers, steaks etc. Summerheys has a bit of everything. Of course, you can't have everything. Where would you put it?
