  1. I can't think of a reason why not ...
  2. This thread is a giant head-fuck.
  3. The SarcMark (what's with the camel-case? ExclamationMark. QuestionMark. SemiColon) looks like a fetus that is in the process of being dropped on its head. I roll with purple font and/or winking emoticons.
  4. Also - Cortez the killer And Mack the Knife: (I'm a total Bobby Darin slut, but you could just as easily go for the more sophisticated Ella Fitzgerald / Louis Armstrong versions if Bobby isn't your speed)
  5. You've got my head stuck on Bonnie and Clyde (which I always thought great names for children) now from your first post. If you don't mind the french, Luna once did a fantastic rendition of Serge Gainsbourg's 'Bonnie and Clyde' to close out an album. And then there is also the original. Here's both the original and the cover. And now, given the beginning lines, I'm thinking you might want to find another Jesse James song, too. via videosift.com
  6. Not at all. In fact, it is probably an entertaining distraction. It is, however, wrong to use the awkward phrasing of "a bi-racial people" I have stopped pretending to understand why women do anything that they may do. You misspelled 'eggs' as 'chocolate' and also misspelled 'blueberries' as 'oranges'. Third would be spinach, I think. Go for the new. Novelty is the spice of life. (and so is tumeric ...) It would be inappropriate to discuss on a public forum.
  7. Absolutely fantastic. Here's the embed:
  8. You meant baud, not bit. Let the piss fall where it may. (And yeah, I actually totally do remember taxman .. and another pacman clone that involved fish, but I can't think of the name of it)
  9. I never had a C-64, but did have an Apple ][e - for a long time the only person I had ever met who had a computer in their house was my engineer uncle. I used to hack away on his Apple ][ all the time and eventually we ended up with one in our house, too. (I remember the first time I saw a Macintosh - the old black and white one that nobody ever purchased any software for - and being so surprised that the same company could go in such a different direction). I learned BASIC on that machine as it was much like a C-64 in that the terminal environment had a BASIC interpreter out of the box. I used to read books on pascal and assembly like they were novels, but never actually got an environment to code either until much later on the PC side. When I managed to score for an IBM PS/2 (a shit machine by any measure, but amazing to me now that one could run a BBS complete with filesharing off a machine with a 30 meg harddrive and less than a megabyte of memory) is about the time that I recall there being a very devout, though small, band of Amiga devotees who were almost rabid in their defense of the superiority of the thing. Probably like what us mac-geeks look and sound like to Ollie, really. Never touched one. Not even sure that I was ever in the same room as one. I do remember a lot of movements to revive Amiga OS in later years and have to admit that it looks like it would kick Window's ass if it had been pursued. I'm gonna guess that we are at about the Windows 3.1 or just prior era here .. maybe prior, because I was definately in DOS and pretty much lived in Telix at the time. True that. I recall the first time I saw one. "Wow, it's an IBM!" Jesus we're old! Fun to geek out though. Maybe we need a computer nostalgia thread.
  10. Good post, and balanced. Anyone else here geeky enough and just quite old enough to recall the Amiga vs. PC wars? Shit -- is there such a thing as an Amiga laptop? That would really eff with Velvet's head.
  11. Haha, I hear ya .. I'm really trying to be measured and not reduce myself to fan-boyism, but in this case I have to say: it's not Apple, it's me. I have a pretty severe movement disorder and I've broken many a laptop - other than the power adapter, the macbook pro has weathered everything without protest and has survived the same conditions that killed other machines. However, I will say that people that I work with have also had complaints about that particular cable and needing to replace it too often (and I suspect they are far gentler with their machines than I) so yeah, Apple could most certainly do better in that department particularly given the costs of replacement.
  12. Nah, I'm just really hard on the poor thing. The fact that the system itself has survived what I've made it endure without any complaints is actually a testament to its durability. But the power cables could certainly stand for some extra re-inforcement.
  13. Fack it, nobody reads this thread but the people posting. It's cathartic. Here goes: Some days I just wanna up and call it quits I feel like I'm surrounded by a wall of bricks Everytime I go to get up, I just fall in piss My life's like one great big ball of shit If I could just put it all into all I spit Instead of always trying to swallow it Instead of staring at this wall of shit While I sit, writer's block, sick of all this shit Can't call it shit, all I know is I'm about to hit the wall If I have to see another one of her alcoholic fits This is it, last straw, that's all, that's it I ain't dealing with another fuckin' politic I'm like a skillet bubbling until it filters up I'm about to kill it, I can feel it building up Blow this building up, I've concealed enough My cup runneth over, I done filled it up, The pen explodes and busts, ink spills my guts You think all I do is stand here and feel my nuts, Well I'm-a show you what, you gon' feel my rush, You don't feel it, then it must be too real to touch, Peel the Dutch, I'm about to tear shit up Goosebumps, yeah, I'm-a make your hair sit up Yeah sit up, I'm-a tell you who I be I'm-a make you hate me, 'cause you ain't me You wait, it ain't too late to finally see What you closed-minded fucks were too blind to see Whoever finds me's gonna get a finder's fee Out this world, ain't no one out they mind as me You need peace of mind? Here's a piece of mine All I need's a line, But sometimes I don't always find the words to rhyme To express how I'm really feeling at that time, yeah Sometimes, sometimes, sometimes Just sometimes, it's always me How dark can these hallways be? The clock strikes midnight, one, two, then half past three This half-assed rhyme, with this half-assed piece of paper, I'm desperate at my desk If I could just get the rest of this shit off my chest again Stuck in a slump, can't think of nothing Fuck I'm stumped, but wait, here comes something - Nope, it's not good enough, scribble it out, new pad, crinkle it up and throw the shit out. I'm fizzlin' now, thought I figured it out. Ball's in my court, but I'm scared to dribble it out. I'm afraid, but why am I afraid, why am I a slave to this trade? Cyanide I spit to the grave, real enough to rile you up Want me to flip it, I can rip it any style you want I'm-a switch hitter bitch, Jimmy Smith ain't a quitter I'm-a sit it here 'til I get enough of me to finally hit A fucking boiling point, put some oil on your joints, Flip the coin bitch, come get destroyed, An MC's worst dream, I make 'em tense, They hate me, see me and shake like a chain-link fence, By the looks of 'em you would swear that jaws was comin', By the screams of 'em, you would swear I'm sawin' someone, By the way they running, you would swear the law was comin', It's now or never, and tonight it's all or nothing, Mama, Jimmy keeps leaving on us, he said he'd be back, "he pinky promised, I don't think he's honest" : I'll be back baby, I just gotta beat this clock. Fuck this clock, I'm-a make 'em eat this watch, Don't believe me? Watch, I'm-a win this race, And I'm-a come back and rub my shit in your face, bitch! I found my niche, you gonna hear my voice, 'Til you're sick of it, you ain't gonna have a choice, if I gotta scream till I have half a lung, if I have half a chance I'll grab it. Rabbit, run...
  14. 1. you hate macs cause they are different 2. you switch to a mac and are uncomfortable for like a week 3. you start to get weird feelings of "aha" all the time on the mac 4. you realize ... damn... osx is about the best OS ever. 5. you use a pc again and it seals the deal forever. Back on a PC again as I've fucked up my power adapter. As much as I know the above will piss Ollie off .. what are you gonna do.

    pork belly

Not yet, but you have certainly managed to get my interest peaked. Sounds like fun.
  16. Quite obviously. Coming home after writing that, I can't be the only one who discovered an early Valentine's Day card from Google in their mailbox?
  17. I was pretty surprised to see a Google ad last night as well - particularly for Google search, which doesn't really seem to need any pumping up. AD's reminder about Bing on Apple products makes some sense, but on platforms where people are in full control of where they do their searches, I don't think Google is in any danger. [edit to add: there is something to be said for pre-emption, though, so I guess it might make sense on that level.] I figured it was just about feel-good branding as there is a 'Google is scary, has too much data, and is going to become big brother' sentiment that seems to be growing. Plus it's fun to have a cool ad on Superbowl Sunday, and there is money to burn. PS - I want a Nexus One over the iPhone or the iPad. Booyah.

    Vitamix Blendtec

/me wants one too. They pretty much rule.
  19. Clever! Once you go Mac, you never go back.
  20. Not wanting this thread to devolve into a religious war or anything, but for what it is worth: I have always been a PC kinda guy - I like that I can work on their internals, build them up from scratch, etc.., etc.. but as far as laptops go I've been through a few and my Macbook Pro was probably my single best purchase ever. For myself, I don't think I'd ever contemplate buying any other laptop anymore. In fact, my (PC) desktop machine rarely even gets turned on these days. Bouche's advice to try a demo machine is good. You might fall in love with it, or you might feel 'meh' - but particularly in that you aren't a technophile, you seem like a really good fit for a macbook. Stuff just works out of the box, you don't have to mess around with much at all, and you inherit a lot of security (I think you were having issues with viruses / spyware and such with your last machine?)

    Fruit or Cookie?

Trying very hard to reserve my usual grumbling about the 'low fat' recommendations, which I think rather villanous even if unintentionally so (I think we should just totally stop referring to dietary fats as "fat" because it seems to trigger all sorts of bizarre, emotional and visceral reactions .. let's just go back to 'lipids' or something. 'You need healthy fats for proper brain and nervous system development and hey, they'll also help keep you fit and slim' causes cognitive dissonance with people and they can't seem to get past the word), those were pretty cool. I wonder if Sesame Street couldn't be used as a sort of bellweather of cultural shifts in general. Hmm, guess I didn't do a good job of keeping my grumbling in check after all. Go figure. Cookies are a sometimes food
  22. What about some of the larger movie theater chains? The big ones often have an 'arcade room'.
  23. I love this. This is better than making God cry.
