  1. holy fuck they are a good fucking band. I mean, like really fucking good. I mean, like in all ways, amazing songwriting, UNBELIEVABLY good vocals (tight, well executed 3 part harmonies throughout), wicked, wicked musicianship....beautiful dual guitar lines, fantastic bass player/co-lead singer. go and see this band as soon as possible. they have a fantastic sound.
  2. I'm in. Jay, see you there.
  3. I'm looking to see if there are any upcoming "Anyone But Harper" rallies in the GTA and was wondering if anybody had heard anything? Maybe this type of rally in the GTA is preaching to the choir but it doesn't hurt to try. If there isn't, I'm thinking about organizing one.....or helping to organize one..... Also, I'm trying to find Mr. Harper's campaign stop schedule so I can be there in person to hurl obscenities at him if he stops anywhere near the GTA...anyone have any info on this? thanks.
  4. I saw them in philly a few years back and was totally unimpressed. IMO, there songs were boring as shit, the singer was not very good, their musicianship was uninspiring, and about the only good thing I remember from their set was when it ended. I don't think they're very good at all and I can't understand why they have an audience.
  5. ditto never had a shower beer, but was just having this conversation with co-workers. I think I shall try it.
  6. I was there. Ok show, I thought the crowd was just awful. As a Torontonian, I am the first to admit our audiences have enormous douchebag potential and last night was a prime example of the "empress-me" mentality at certain shows. I thought there would be more enthusiastic Cuff fans such as myself there. Sadly not. I'm heading back tonight though. I hope its better.
  7. hipster? I agree Jeff Mangum is a genius as is this piece of music. Unfuckinbelievable.
  8. oh I am soooooo on this show. I hate the ACC but for weezer I will go anywhere. must get good seats must get good seats
  9. ok so I'm pumped. My first Black Keys show and I have high expectations. I'm a fan of all their records though Thickfreakness is my favorite. Anybody else hittin this show up?
  10. thank you. my day was shit until this, and now, fan-fucking-tastic. thanks.
  11. the opener was Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and yes they did kick some serious ass. I highly recommend them to everyone. Her voice is unreal, so strong and so emotive.
  12. I don't keep track of set lists during shows though I'm sure someone will post one. Standouts for me were Let Me Share the Ride and Halfway to Everywhere (plus awesome blues jam) from Three Snakes and One Charm. Whoa Mule off the new album was a nice surprise. And generally the new material sounded great. It was also a really cool balance between new material, and older songs that weren't just the hits. I was getting really tired of Crowes shows that were nothing but hits off certain records, and then maybe some covers. They seemed to be staying away from their more overplayed songs, which made for a way more interesting and entertaining show. Though overall I thought Luther fit in really well (as well as the new keys player who was really solid) it was during songs like Wiser Time and Gone that you really felt the missing presence of Marc Ford, especially on the his first solo in Wiser Time. The amazing soloing lyricism and sound of Marc was just simply missing from the songs he left such an imprint on. Having said that, it also seemed like the brothers Robinson gave Luther more room to play slide over top of parts of songs that they might not have otherwise let Marc or Audley or Paul Stacy play over. And unfortunately, there did not seem to be the same near telepathic chemistry between Luther and Rich that existed between Marc and Rich. Covers; Rich sand lead on an amazing Quinn the Eskimo, I had no idea they even played that song but since Girl from a North Country popped up on a recent setlist, I suppose they're mining the Dylan catalog a bit heavier. And the final encore was Don't Do It by the band. All in all, a great show and a pretty decent crowd. They sounded fresh, and definitely seem to have gained some new energy with the new members.
  13. wow. what a response. great show. good times.
  14. so....I'm pumped. Luther.....kick ass. new material....kick ass. awesome.
  15. does anyone know set times tonight? there's fringe fest there at 6 pm so the 8 start time listed above from his website doesn't seem realistic.
  16. thanks, I tried but was too late. But really, should I have to? Assuming the fan pre-sale wasn't every good seat available at the venue, why should I be forced to buy shit seats when there are clearly good ones available, but being withheld?
  17. this is the shit that makes me fucking hate Massey Hall and all the "friends" they have. This happened to me last time where, 5 seconds after going on sale, best I could get were gallery. Then, less than 2 weeks before the show I got 14th row, floor, centre and managed to sell the other ones. WHAT THE FUCK!? fuck you ticketmaster fuck you friends of massey hall fuck you the person who thought this up. Give the REAL fans the good goddamn tickets that we so desperately want and stop holding out for every asshole "friend" to decide some 1 1/2 weeks before the show that they aren't going to buy some of the BEST seats that have been held for them. Is this how it works? Am I losing my mind? why the fuck would you hold some of the best seats this long? This is what the pre-sale for friends is for, if they haven't bought whats availale up, let the rest of us get them. FUCK YOU MASSEY HALL, you suck.
  18. Scofield and Stern Friday fo sho. j. see ya there, though I will be in the no pay zone, sneak me in?
  19. ear plugs are a must. get custom ones done for $120 and enjoy music from anywhere in the venue. they let in enough to still hear everything well, and protect. in toronto, I got mine at the Musicians Clinic on college at augusta. dudes name was marshall chasin who hooked me up.
  20. thanks man, I honestly didn't even know MMJ was on archive so this is super huge score for me. Now I just want the Toronto show and the Bonaroo show....
  21. I dig Librarian too. And I do think the album is a bit cleaner sounding, but it still sounds like a MMJ records. Elements of At Dawn, It still moves and Z. The r&b is definitely noticeable, but after awhile I find blends well with the rest of the tunes.
  22. I hear ya on Highly Suspicious, but after listening to Evil Urges a bunch of times, I find it more in keeping with Z and their evolving sound. 'Sec Walkin' I thought was pretty cheese but its still a Jim James song at heart. On the whole, I really dig Evil Urges. It has a good flow from beginning to end and remains interesting throughout.
  23. Jaimoe - you're crazy man, that show kicked so much ass, it blew the church show to pieces. That was the best MMJ of the 6 times I've seen them. Holy fuck, what fucking show. I hope they make music and tour for years...
