  1. Stephen Harper is a douchebag and needs to be removed from any lever of power. This is the same shit we've been getting from them since day 1. Super prisons huh. Just in time for crime to be going down. Why can't the average Canadian see the parliamentary system for what it is and realize co-operation between parties in coalitions might actually represent the best exercise of democracy?
  2. no where in that presentation did anyone suggest Darwin is a Nazi. Not to mention he predated the National Socialist movement by about 3 decades. he said, "Adolf Hitlers undeniable connection with the theory." Leave the inflammatory rhetoric for the Christians.
  3. I saw the sneak preview last night and unfortunately, IMO, it really sucked. I thought the first one was way better. This one certainly had its laughs and some great moments, but on the whole I was pretty disappointed. The story seemed thrown together and was just plain stupid. I was hoping someone would just put a gun to Laheys head and shut the fucking annoying man up. Way too much Lahey and Julian and not nearly enough Ricky who played more of a supporting role in this film. It was the Lahey and Julian show and neither of them are particularly funny. Wait for the rental on this one. The highlight of the night for me was sitting 2 rows directly behind Alex Lifeson.
  4. He should be entitled to more and the fact the remaining stones are multi millionaires and he lives hand to mouth is fucking pathetic and sad. His playing is all over some of their best work. The least they could do is help him live somewhat more comfortably then he does now.
  5. i wonder if those of us that signed up for the players club last time (ABB) could get the freebies again.
  6. I feel pretty behind on this one, and I can't believe I didn't hear anything about this before, but the Crowes released a new album on Tues. Sept. 1 called Before the Frost....Until the Freeze. Actually, a double album of sorts. http://www.blackcrowes.com/090608.html Recorded live off the floor at Levon Helms barn studio/rehearsal/jam space. Crowes at Rama next weekend. Can't say I'll be there. Seems like only greed to skip the town and head for the casino. Rama is, after all, Black Crowes fan capital of Ontario.
  7. for those who do not get good seats during the public onsale this Friday - because they reserve a certain number of the best seats in the house for the "friends first" presale, these seats remain reserved, even if UNSOLD, throughout the entire public onsale. At 2 weeks prior to the actual show date, the unsold tickets are then released to the public. I find this practice ridiculous (another reason to become a "friend") but for those willing to chance not getting any seats (there's no way of knowing how many reserved friends first seats are left after presale), the payoff can be the best seats in the house. I got 2nd row dead centre for Steve Earle this way and amazing floor seats for other shows in the past.
  8. wow. I haven't seen this much excitement for a Toronto show since The Slip still existed. I saw them a few years back in philly, and they were pretty good. Not jaw dropping, holy shit must attend show, but good. I'm somewhat puzzled by the overwhelming response from the board to this band. Again, not that they don't deserve some props, but they're just a decent jam-grass band. And for whoever asked, they sound like an acoustic based jam band who's main influence is bluegrass. Very, very danceable as well.
  9. many of us have written in about this and it will hopefully go back soon. worst live music web listing change ever.
  10. It was a great show. He played an equal amount of material from the new album and his own work.
  11. I'm not a huge fan of Townes Van Zandt, but this is my first Steve Earle show and I'm certainly a fan of his. Considering his new album Townes is only 11(?) songs long, I can hope to hear at least some original material.
  12. Al - didn't see you there.....did you catch the 3rd set?
  13. Hello all - just a quick reminder this THURSDAY July 9th there will be a tribute show to the late Mr. Jay Bennett at the Horseshoe Tavern. A Tribute to the Music of the late Jay Bennett with Staggered Crossing, Peter Katz, Blair Packham, The Kramdens, Stone River, Quincy LePalm, Shoot The Cameraman, John Moore, Five Star Trailer Park, Kin Jarrett and more Thursday July 9 2009 @ The Horseshoe Tavern 10 PM $10 @ the door (All proceeds will be donated to the Mr. Holland's Opus foundation: www.mhopus.org)
  14. I thought Sky Blue Sky was better. But a strong album nonetheless. One Wing and Bull Black Nova are standout tracks for me. And I agree with the less-Nils comment from above. Not sure if its for the better or worse, but his signature sounds seem conspicuously absent. Let's hope for another Massey Hall show in the future. And for those interested, there's a Jay Bennett tribute show happening in Toronto this Thursday July 9th at the Horseshoe. Music will include many of the Wilco tunes Jay is credited with co-writing and some of his solo stuff. Cover is $10 and all proceeds will go to a charity Jay started that helps provide musical instruments and instruction to underprivileged kids.
  15. My only time there was for the Allmans last year. They did let anyone who wanted to, go to the front of the stage and stand within the "designated" standing zone (clearly marked on the floor with a red line, as in, stand inside the red line or be accosted by security) though the entire rest of the audience were seated, calm as Hindu cows. Had I not walked straight into the standing zone, I would have been seated and really really pissed off (though the tickets were free). I'm planning on hitting this show up, and I pray we can stand within the "standing" zone.
  16. when are tix on sale for this show?
  17. For those interested, on July 9th members of Staggered Crossing will be reuniting for a Jay Bennett tribute show at the Horseshoe. Music performed will be Jay Bennett material from both his time in Wilco and solo albums, of which he has 4. My band, Shoot the Cameraman, have been invited to play a few songs and we're honored to have this opportunity to pay tribute to the mad genius. further details to follow.
  18. Don't miss Jerry Douglas Band! unbelievable!!!
  19. Re: impending New World Order note- maybe it's not such a bad thing that the police and army aren't the only people who can carry guns.
  20. I saw them once, they were pretty cool. Interesting and different with some very unique orchestration and arrangements. However, I didn't recall the songwriting to be all that wonderful. And the lead singer made a joke about Jeff Healy dying (he had passed away the week before) and that just about made me want to heckle the shit out of them. But I restrained myself.
  21. In. stupid dj or not. hopefully not.
  22. Brutal. He produced my friends in Staggered Crossing's 2nd album here in TO. Too young. RIP
  23. harvey's is shit. Ecoli laced burgers and the last time i had one it ripped my insides to pieces. I have never had such bad diarrea, writhing on the ground for hours. fuck harveys and their shit product
