  1. it's a truly beautiful theatre even before the restorations. The first and second floors were always a bit nicer and more well maintained then the upper balcony (3rd floor). I'll be heading back for my 5th Beacon run next month, only got 1 show though (thank you ticketbastard) and for the lodge (lower balcony). Best thing about the Beacon, other than great sound and sight lines - absolutely no smoking pot or cigs on the orchestra level or lower balcony, but totally fine on the upper balcony.
  2. fucking monopoly. Same bullshit with allmans tickets for Beacon shows. At the EXACT fuckin minute of "public" on sale, no tickets available, but wow some expensive tickets are available, already, on TicketNow. Those "brokers" act fast.
  3. I liked that first "list" a whole lot more than the second, but it really does seem way too good to be true. The second "list" did not have me as excited and was in fact, a let down after the first.

    Dr. Dog

It was mentioned on the Dr. Dog where have you been all my life thread but deserves, no demands, its own thread. Unlike their studio material, Dr. Dog turn into something quite different when playing live. I cannot overstate how lucky I consider myself for having been at the Elmo last Oct. when they came through town. I had only heard a few live tracks, and it was enough to arouse my curiosity. At first, they're sound reminded me a lot of phish, who I really really don't like. They had a very playful, happy and uptempo sound, something that you could not help but want to dance and move to. But their songs were fairly short, not jammed out, more like concise well crafted pop tunes. And their vocals were absolutely stunning. Unbelievable 3 and 4 part vocal harmonies that they executed FLAWLESSLY. They also had some very Allmans-esque dual guitar lines that flowed and moved throughout each song. This was a band that, for me, had everything. More than, this is a band unlike any other out there right now. Something truly unique and original, and yes I say that in spite of their near constant comparison to the Beatles, which yes even live their songs sound like a Beatles song. Not too shabby a comparison either. Go and see this band if you consider yourself a fan of live music. They are an amazing and truly rewarding musical and artistic experience.
  5. I tend to think he's being a bit dramatic. It seems as though he changes his mind about this or that every few days. Not that I doubt he intends on ending the Cardinals (which sucks, so, so much....RA and the C = one of the best fuckin bands making music today) but I'm sure he will be making music and playing even after his March 20th Last Show. Or his sabbatical from music will just be short lived. An artist that prolific will have trouble containing his impulse to create. Having said that, losing most of his hearing in his left ear, and having constant ringing can't be helpful making music. Maybe Infinity Blues marks the dawn of the Ryan Adams as author-only era.
  6. My friend suggested that the only reason the Dead tour anymore is for money. I tend to think he has a point though I would have thought they had "enough" money to live comfortably. Isn't the acrimony between certain members (Bob/Phil) quite well known?
  7. the real question is: who are they playing with? the Allmans? or phish?

  9. cool, nice pic. you guys look the same. thats you in another 40 years.
  10. they were easily one of the best bands I saw live in 2008. a must see for any fan of live music, IMO they absolutely had elements of the Beatles and The Band and holy shit they are good ones. Not quite a jam band, not quite an indie band, not quite a pop/rock band, but somewhere wonderfully in all that. jaw-fucking-dropping band. go and see they asap. though they only have 1 show listed on their website, in Australia, 2009 should have some.
  11. Wal-Mart spokesman Dave Tovar called the incident a "tragic situation." "The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority," Tovar said. uh-huh.
  12. I saw them play last time around at Massey Hall and it was one of the worst jazz shows I have ever been to. I just DO NOT understand, at all, what the hell they are trying to do. There was no point during the show when it sounded like all members of the group were on the the same page, sounding like they were trying to play the same song. Each moment to the next was 4 guys playing completely different sounding songs. Utter cacophony. I thought it was just me, I didn't "get it" whatever "it" was. But I went to the show with 2 good friends who are professional jazz musicians and both of them, who are fans of all of the band members felt the exact same way I did. They didn't get it either and also thought it sounded like trash. Just my thoughts.....
  13. Can the fat cats please come and play some shows in Toronto? you guys are so, so much fun and I really dig the tunes. Toronto humbly requests a Fat Cats show. In fact, I may know a band looking to fill a spot early Dec....
  14. posted on their myspace page today, which also now only lists their NYE show. I'm guessing the Toronto show is off. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=95911507 The Future..... Hey there, We've read a bunch of the posts on here and everybody appreciates the support. It has been very helpful to us over the last few days. It means more than you know..... It's time for us to move forward now. Any more time spent with anger and insult is wasted time. One of the things that the last two years has taught us all over again is that we love playing music together. The eleven previous years were spent healing and dealing, and we came back with an even stronger bond. Our dream, what this is really all about for us, is to have the chance to make something great. A great album. A great show. As we said before, we will endure just about anything for that. So we're going to try to press forward immediately, and we want to find a singer to go with us. In our minds, Travis set the bar pretty high. And Shannon?....well that goes without saying. We're looking for somebody from outer space that has their feet on the ground. We're looking for somebody who has a voice that inspires new songs and sheds new light on our old songs. We're not looking for clones, drones, jokers, clowns, or drama queens. If you are interested or know somebody else who is, send an mp3 or video/audio link to blindmelonsinger@gmail.com. We'll check it out and get back to you if we think you might be a good fit for the band. Thank ya! Blind Melon 11/10/08
  15. So the next question is "what are we going to do"? First of all, we plan to begin the tour in Allentown, PA on Monday. Chris Shin, who formed Unified Theory with Brad and Christopher, is coming with us and is ready and willing. We are enormously grateful to Chris for accepting this somewhat daunting challenge. After the tour, we will begin the process of finding somebody who understands, as previously stated, that it is an honor to perform for ya'll, and that it is important to pull together and work together in order to create something truly great. We intend to play all the shows that are on the schedule, including the New Year's eve show, and we will make up the shows that were cancelled earlier this month. I'm confused. I haven't cross checked the stated info above with the remaining tour dates, but I was under the impression the Toronto show is late Nov. So, is the TO show canceled or is it on with the new "new" guy?
  16. wow. crazy. I couldn't get tickets for Toronto? Anybody got an extra?
  17. the one on top top looks cooler. Those deers are fucked.
  18. I'm hittin Okkervil River. Looking forward to it though I have heard one friend say he was disappointed in their live performance. And despite this my expectations are still high.
