  1. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/crime/article/813872--charges-against-michael-bryant-dropped?bn=1 from the Star: Peck told court Sheppard’s history of altercations with motorists was relevant in the case. He outlined six other incidents that came to light after Sheppard’s photograph was published and broadcast, including one in which an elderly woman described Sheppard as a “mad man.†Sheppard’s blood alcohol level was measured after his death at 1.83, or more than twice the legal limit for driving. Peck said four of the previous incidents happened during August 2009. They showed “an escalating cycle of aggressiveness toward motorists,†he said, and corroborate evidence given by Bryant and Abramovitch.
  2. ditto - don't you just love monopolies?
  3. its a great fest if you can make it to Austin. I went to the first one and it was amazing, and exceptionally well run. Awesome people, attendees and employees, and everything is thought out well and executed well. Worth every penny you throw down to get there....
  4. got a pair right centre floor row j on masseyhall.com. This should be an epic crowes show and its sad to think it might be my last. Although I guess I'm reading that into "indefinite hiatus to follow" with the tour announcement. I suppose that doesn't mean their done so much as taking a break until the well runs dry...but at this point I figure they'll want to put enough distance between themselves for as long as possible to try to let the batteries re-charge. Course, with the way many "retired" or "hiatus" bands seem to be these days we should expect to see them again in 5-7 years? More? Less? Both Chris' and Rich's solo shots didn't fair particularly well though Chris made a better go of it. I always thought Rich's solo album Paper was fantastic and the best of the 3 (Chris Robinson and the New Earth Mud, This Magnificant Distance and Paper) and I look forward to more solo Rich material. Whether its the last ever, or the last one for awhile, it should be amazing.
  5. And it will possibly be one of the last Black Crowes shows you'll see as what the original post didn't mention was the release of a double album of Crowes tunes done acoustically to coincide with their 20th anniversary and after the tour the band is planning an indefinite hiatus to spend time with their respective families. And yes they have said that before and come back but this time I get the feeling that's it for the Crowes (or Robinson brothers as a band) http://www.blackcrowes.com/100419.html THE BLACK CROWES TO RELEASE DOUBLE STUDIO ALBUM OF ALL ACOUSTIC MATERIAL TO COMMEMORATE THEIR 20th ANNIVERSARY “SAY GOODNIGHT TO THE BAD GUYS†2010 TOUR WILL KICK OFF AUGUST 13 INDEFINITE HIATUS TO FOLLOW TOUR 20th ANNIVERSARY VIP PACKAGES AVAILABLE
  6. went for the opening night, section 307. First, $500 plus for a pair of 100 level/lower bowl? Is roger broke? I fuckin doubt it. Second, I'm kinda worried that opening night is the night you work out the kinks and fuck ups in the entire production, but I couldn't do Thurs night. so lets hope this summers rehearsals work out all the "kinks". anyway, got my tickets, its done. Now....is it Sept yet?
  7. I buy a bit, steal a lot (torrents are amazing), go to a lot of shows and generally try to promote the music I like. I still have very serious misgivings about piracy, yet I dive right in whenever I think of something I want. The availability of so much amazing music at my fingers (and subsequently my ipod) is too hard to pass up. But I do support with real money the bands I like and listen to (mostly) so hopefully it balances.
  8. Sad news. Great, great fuckin weed.
  9. and smells like it too. or maybe that was cosmic steve....
  10. First off, I thought the show was fuckin amazing. That was my 4th Dr. Dog show and for me, almost as good as the 1st (Elmo 2008). I really, really like that band and I think they're making some great music. I hope they continue to do so. Second, I really need to check out the Fruit Bats. Never heard of them until this thread (or some other thread on this board).
  11. ditto - wicked band and way underrated and under appreciated. wished I hit this show but wasn't to be. hope it was cool.
  12. if Jesus' nipples were the eyes, it would look more like the devil to me. why is this news? and who fact checked that story?
  13. Is Marc Emery out of jail? or will he be by May 1st?
  14. Lee's Palace next week should be awesome. First show on the 2 month tour, not sure if that bodes well..... I disagree that the music they make is generic.
  15. Montreal was an amazing show. band sounded awesome. wicked, wicked set list. show - 1 hr 40 minutes encore/2nd set - 40 minutes - unbelievable. great tunes busted out in the encore, via chicago, the late greats, heavy metal drummer..... and 1 verse of Mr. Soul into all of Broken Arrow. ottawa should be awesome.
  16. very cool. RIP Chris "space wolf" Feinstein.
  17. Anyone check this show out? I totally forgot but I have no cash anyway. Ben Rayner gave it a shit review, and I'm kinda glad I didn't throw down any cash for it. http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/music/live/article/769408--eric-clapton-no-match-for-jeff-beck?bn=1
  18. The show last night was great. Small club in Buffalo, sold out. The new tunes sounded awesome, a definite continuation of the sound developed through We All Belong and Fate. Only downside to the night was that both lead singers had very worn out, overly rough vocals. The singing was generally not as good as I've seen in the past, though you couldn't tell whether it was due to a cold or tiredness. Other than that, great show.
  19. People's History - Now that's a book that should be on North American school curriculum! holy fack. good work Zinn, mission accomplished.
  20. In. I'm actually heading down to Buffalo a week tomorrow for the show at Mowhawk Place. pumped for the new album. I'll report back here on the show.
  21. No one said it was a vacation. Or those who did were simply trying to understand why. We're saying it's undemocratic and demonstrates and incredible degree of contempt for the citizens of this country and parliament. Moreover, the justification that the gov't needs to "recalibrate" sounds hollow and plainly self-interested. 37.7% of the popluar vote gets to decide when the gov't does and does not sit. I call bullshit.
  22. An even better article by Rick from globe and mail Jan. 5th. Toronto rally - this Saturday - Dundas Square - 1 PM Stephen Harper is a douchebag. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinions/proroguing-is-for-children-and-stephen-harper/article1420026/
  23. ok, Jai- I know you love conan and that's cool, I like him too. but really who the fuck cares what happens on late night TV? Why in god's name is this considered "news"? Who fucking cares about Jay Leno and Conan O'Brian? sorry if you do. I do not, which should be clear. But I can't understand why this is newsworthy. Don't TV shows, even really long running ones, get moved and canceled and tinkered with all the time? why is this so different?
  24. Sad news. I got the chance to listen to Stern again in Oct. Artie was talking openly about therapy and working on getting "better". I think howard was pretty respectful there all things considered.
