  1. pretend you're bombing - civilians enjoying a wedding! - allied forces staging military exercises! - schools and hospitals! - civilian infrastructure like sewage treatment plants and electrical generating stations. for the ultimate war enthusiast....
  2. Cosmic Granola? worst band name ever. lazy, lazy, lazy.
  3. and it is a trick that is being done a heck of a lot more these days. I will pay for Fat Cats dec. 19th @ Opera House. I can't say I'd shell out for keller.
  4. it was wicked and entirely devoted to MMJ giving them huge respect. Basically Stan ends up at a MMJ show and falls hard for the singing of Jim James. He then devotes his life to absorbing everything MMJ and Jim James, to the result of finally meeting him backstage at a show. They use MMJ music throughout and quote lyrics as dialogue. Well worth watching.
  5. $159.50? I would love to go, but prices like that are ridiculous.
  6. totally. TV and cable - mostly love, some hate - advertising - worth the pain for quality TV? Hockey, The Office, South Park and endless reruns of The Simpsons make it all worthwhile. Online I know, but I'm old fashioned.
  7. how about the fucking losers who are in charge of security at the Opera house? I'm not asking for free reign with joints, but lighten up (ha) for fucks sake! The Opera house has always (always!) had the worst rep for intense security scrutiny but who the fuck are we all hurting by smoking joints outside? I can drink till I puke and get behind the wheel, but GOD FORBID anyone lights a joint outside the opera house. WHO ARE WE HURTING? Can someone (jaydawg - sorry I didn't say hey last night, I was too busy trying to HIDE from security outside to smoke a joint.) - jaydawg, whoever promoted this show talk to the militant fucks in charge of security and tell them to ease up on the joint crackdowns? (inside or out).
  8. TSM2 - Perpetual Groove Open - Bruce Cockburn My Friend - Dr. Dog
  9. nice review. rookie factor. haha, rookies.
  10. hondo - I have 2 questions. Have Mars Hotel ever played a show before? Do both drummers have kick pedals that are mic'd?
  11. I thought the show was a let down. I couldn't sense an ounce of chemistry between the new bassist Jorgson whatever and the rest of the band. I miss Andy Hess in mule big time. The new guy isn't much of a replacement and Andy was an awesome replacement for Allen Woody who I miss more every mule show I see. The energy was lacking generally throughout the night and those I spoke to who were at the Michigan show 2 nights previous said it was a much better show than Toronto. Not that jorgson isn't an amazing bassist, but they need someone with more than great skill to fill those shoes. they need someone of the caliber of Hess or Woody.
  12. my guess - they just got together, have never played a show before and are hoping people will come based on being a dead cover band.....ok maybe 1 previous show? are they from the Vaughn/thornhill/richmond hill area?
  13. no flu shot for me. I bet the company that makes the vaccination is rolling in the $ these days. man made genetically designed flu. no fear mongering. no paranoia. no flu shot.
  14. awesome show. thanks. the constant cries of "SIT DOWN" during the show is a tad distracting, though makes for some great bad-acid-trip moments during "Echoes".
  15. I dunno J., I was kinda disappointed with both the new CD and the show last night. Where's the rock gone? The new CD seems a bit too much of a departure from their sound, all mellow and slow, without any of the drive or excitement of the self-titled and Sidelines. I think they either were letting Keelor have too much say, or following his advice too closely and seemed to have strayed from the bouncy, fun rock side of their 2 previous albums. The show last night wasn't all that thrilling either. Not bad, just not as good as either the Mod club show or last years horseshoe shows.
  16. Pittsburgh does not blow. Go to the South Side of town, very cool area, safe, lots of bars, students, generally a very good vibe. And many tattoo parlors should the mood strike you. E Carson St. is the cool street to start at on the South Side. Like Queen West in TO or the Market in Ottawa. Pittsburgh is generally a really nice place, friendly people, good energy, and several winning sports franchises.
  17. I've seen them many, many times in Montreal and west island when I lived there for school (2001 - 2005) and they are an awesome GD cover band. Like the Dead, they take awhile to warm up, and they can be hit or miss for any given show, but they played one of the best Halloween shows I have ever seen at Cylde's in the west island. Maybe it was the mushrooms but holy shit they are capable of some unbelievable jams. Again, hit or miss depending on the show, but when they're on, they are really, really on. Go and check them out and have the attitude that you are there to party and it will be all good.
  18. in, both nights. 3 brasseurs/brewers pub around the corner pre drink would be at Imperial but trying this place out.
  19. new project from Kid Koala mix rock and beats..... “grungalism.†http://www.metronews.ca/halifax/entertainment/article/324766--the-slew-mix-rock-and-beats
  20. interesting about how only 2 people were ever charged with distributing seeds in Canada and now he's off to a US prison. Seems to me like he's being scapegoated for something....throw the US drug dog a bone and we'll continue to pretend the billions of $ of sweet BC green coming across the boarder isn't so bad. Can't do much about one, but they can arrest a high profile activist. And let's not pretend that the US isn't fond of imprisoning activists of any stripe who so much as break a single law. they throw priests and nuns in jail for peace protests. they invade sovereign nations and drop bombs on wedding parties. how is any of this any different then the norm?
  21. "President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has insisted that the plant, near the holy city of Qom, does not breach UN regulations and says it is open for inspection by UN experts. But leaders of the US, Britain and France accuse Tehran of keeping the plant secret in breach of UN rules." Iran - the site is open for inspection. West - no, its a secret plant.
  22. He had a bunch of works in progress up on his blog awhile back, and indeed there were a number of very good ones (or ones I liked and thought were good) I agree he needs to get back at it, but I would rather a rested, rejuvenated Ryan Adams then a tired, bored, cranky Ryan Adams. And also, if he actually has Meniere's syndrome, as has been suggested on this board and elsewhere, he can take whatever kind of break he wants. That condition sounds like it would suck so fucking much, and not only that, but to be a musician who has lost 80% hearing in one ear....not to mention the whole spontaneous nausea and vomiting thing. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, and if he needs a break in order to come back at music with full strength.....take the break.
