Thanks for your recs so far. Esau, actually going to see Frank Fairfield twice in the next few weeks. He's playing here in brighton for next to nothing at a tiny pub next week. Will then catch him at this fest the week after. Kev, yeah it's here in the UK, in "West Country", or Dorset to be exact. Kinda in the middle of nowhere with really small crowds, which is what music like this works best with, IMO. It's nice to be somewhere that people are quiet for the quiet acts, you can sorta lay back and sip a beer and just enjoy some folky stuff in the afternoon, then have some more upbeat and noisier stuff (e.g. Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse, Black Mountain) in the evening. Good combination for fogies like me!

I spoke to the owners of one of the biggest single malt collections in Europe while I was in Arran and he said that it has gotten so bad they can only buy bottles on auction at rediculously inflated prices (bear in mind they're right beside Islay where most of the best can be found). International markets (esp. China) have driven prices through the roof. he even gets buyers approaching him for purchases despite the fact he's not a distributor. Female arrested for theft under $ 5,000 Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 20-year-old female for theft under $ 5,000. It is alleged that the accused entered the Zellers Store, in the Station mal and stole a package of sunscreen. Accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to the city police. It is further alleged that at the time of this offence the accused was on a recognizance release order with conditions to keep the peace and be good and to notify the Sault Ste Marie Police Service of any address change of address. Sasha Daigle, age 20, of 277 Northern Ave Ap. # 309 is charged with one count of theft under $ 5,000 and two counts of breach of a recognizance. She will be appearing in court on Aug30th at 9:00 am.

i can empathise. one strategy that I've used over the past year is networking. I've managed to get 2 articles through the submission process with a 3rd one in teh final stages, but that has been helped a lot by working with colleagues. My former supervisor was editing a special edition of a journal and invited me to submit an article, then an organisation I work with in Ottawa wanted to put some stuff together. The advantage is that you get editors who have more flexibility, and are more willing to be patient if you need to work through revisions. Getting co-workers has helped with the review of papers beofre they get submitted too. A big thing for avoiding let-down.
