  1. I've been down to Cape Town and Stellenbosch and was in Johannesburg a few weeks ago. Lots of great outdoorsy stuff on the coast there. Driving down around the cape of good hope is pretty amazing, and htere are lots of whales and such. Robben Island and Table Mountain are the obvious things to hit in CT. There are also some great restaurants in both CT and Stellenbosch (with killer wine of course). Don't recall names off the top of my head unfortunately, but I'm sure they're easy to find online. Obviously game parks are a huge attraction, and I'd say check out some of the neighbouring countries for fun (Namibia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Maldives if you don't mind going a bit further afield). I'll probably be back down in Durban in December for the next round of the UN climate negotiations, and am thinking of hitting one of those countries for a week or two.

you calling me a robot weirdo?
  3. This is likely the first and only time I'll post in here, but thought I'd point out that our local team (Brighton) here seems to be kicking ass and taking names following their promotion to the Championship League. Undefeated so far this season and at the top of the table. Amex stadium is across the road from my university so I'm going to have to find a way to score tickets. Amazing that in a city of 300,000 a 22,000 seat stadium is completely sold out for the whole season. Rabid fans.
  4. what's cool about most of those (with the obvious exception of the Park Hyatt) is that they can be booked for $100 USD/night or less. You can barely get dinner at the Hyatt for that price, but it's still worth a visit and a night out in the bar.
  5. a few come to mind Tensing Pen in Negril Jamaica Dusun Inn in Yogyakarta, Indonesia Gheralta Lodge, Tigray, Ethiopia In terms of modern opulence, the Park Hyatt in Tokyo pretty much takes it for me (Lost in Translation shot there) I quite enjoyed staying at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. Very cool overall.
  6. thanks all! DaveO, I love Tuneyards. Been catching her for the last few years (since she was in Sister Suvi) and her vocals and songwriting are fantastic. Riots didn't make it down to Brighton (we're too white and middle class I suppose), so I'll have to settle on scoring "new in box" IPhones off ebay I guess!
  7. thanks guys. Had never heard of White Denim. Will check out these suggestions. Trev, the festival is End of the Road. Small fest in Dorset (UK) that I go to every year. They've got pretty good taste in bands, but there's often a lot of stuff I've never heard of in the lineup (which is cool!).
  8. Hi again, The time has come for me to appeal to Jambands.ca's collective wisdom on this fest, where you've made sure I didn't miss greats like William Elliot Whitmore and Tallest Man on Earth. Any suggestions for this year? Not loving the lineup as much as years past but the vibe usually makes up for it. I've put asterisks beside the acts i'm definitely going to hit. Any other "can't miss" people here? Thanks all!
  9. A great thing happened here a couple of years ago when the EU passed legislation restricting how much network operators can charge for roaming. Roaming fees in Canada are completely out of whack. I remember reading that it's got the highest mobile phone prices in the world or something of the sort.
  10. So, I'm trying to avoid having to take my computer into the techies at work cause I'm about to go away, but I'm having some horrible problems. Basically something in our company software is writing these massive files to a folder called c:/windows/system32/ccm/inventory. These are like 3-4gb each, and it's probably writing 10 gigs a day to my laptop. I deleted 160gb of files 3 days ago, and it's at it again. My limited research is telling me it has something to do with the shared software from work getting written there, but I can't figure out more than that. Just wondering if any one knows how to deal with this besides having to go to tech support and lose my laptop for days on end. Thanks!
  11. he's playing here on Wednesday in a beautiful hall. Hoping to hit it up.
  12. yep, a fan of both bands, but live MMJ>MM.

  15. question for anyone who has bought the full package from the KoL website. Is the first form where you enter your details the only place you put an address, or is there an option for putting in a different delivery address? Trying to buy it as a gift for someone, but don't want to end up getting it delivered to me instead. thanks.
  16. i always use kayak. great site. Worth crosschecking with orbitz as they sometimes have better deals once in a while.
  17. one of hte nice things in the UK is that they have on/off switches on the plug outlets meaning you can very easily address this. Probably WAYYY less power wastage as a result.
  18. i've been smitten by her awesomeness for some time as well.
  19. February 15th – Quebec City QC @ Cabaret du Capitole (w/ Plants & Animals, Think About Life) This would be awesome. Might pop down to that show at the Louvre. Never a bad idea to hit paris in the summer

  22. 10 years eh? WEll thanks Mike and others for all the hard work. Strangely I've lived outside of Canada for most of those 10 years but this board has helped me feel a bit of a link to what's going on back home. Don't post much anymore but still like to read it!
