  1. Seems to me that when the phrase 'get by just fine' is used, the speaker is either confusing or masking modesty for/with poverty. It would take a great amount of work in food science. On the flip side, if we were to treat our animals and fish/wildlife with respect we could not only ethically and morally harvest the world but also have much better farms and STILL feed more people healthier than if we were to suddenly go veg. Just because it's big doesn't mean it HAS to be a factory farm. People will need jobs and livelihoods in the coming years and agriculture could be our saving grace. Not only with eggs, meat, and dairy, but with the epidemic of beehives dying off en masse we're going to have to pollenate crops too. I truly hope that more people find a place in their diet for more vegetable matter, seeds, nuts, fruit, and meat alternatives... ...but thinking that soy can save the world is a very dangerous and shortsighted stance to take.
  2. City council is as much to blame for the fuck ups as O'Brien. Ottawa needs a number of solutions for its problems and potential problems as I see it. -We have no food terminal -We have no rail infrastructure in/out -we will soon be overtaxing out transit system -We are sprawling out into suburbia because city taxes and real estate prices don't reflect the value of necessity (or giant homes) for many people -old Carleton County isn't being developed properly -City planning in Ottawa seems to be a farce -Too much focus on the downtown core -Not enough incentives to bring jobs to outlying neighbourhoods to save commuting time Who's suggesting that they can address these concerns? Anybody?
  3. I have 2 tickets to spare at will call if anybody needs in.
  4. The kind you taste with your eyes?
  5. I have no idea. Apiculture's on hold for a number of years while I work with wood.
  6. If we did a COMPLETE 180 and stopped murdering and imprisoning animals for our exploitation we would be able to get by... ...but we just wouldn't thrive quite as much (physiologically, anyway) and would have severe problems getting on track. smoking and curing meats introduces carcinogens of course...but so do impure vegetables, GMOs, and margarine. Commercially processed meats are bad. If you're willing to pay good money for small batched smoked and cured meats then great...but sale bacon is pretty delicious.
  7. If you don't like it then just don't use your debit card. Old School banking?

    yayyyyyy God

I suppose you have a point, Dr. Mouse, but was the middle ground really ever the reason people would read/post here? I'm sure I could have expressed that better at the time. WWJD?

    yayyyyyy God

The title of this thread is wholly sarcastic. There has been no middle ground from day 1. I think that this thread is here for entertainment and for perhaps finding people to PM/discuss some of these topics outside of this thread/internet. I'm sure I'm not the only person that's impressed by how nice you are. I think that there could easily be a thread called 'The Devil Made me Do it' that's all about the awful side of this yaaaaaay god thread while this yaaaaaaay thread could be the rolleyes of the religious discussion. But then again, why mess with a good thing.
  10. We really need another chip in our wallets? RFID indeed!
  11. As long as infrastructure/relief is put into place to remove the stupid excuses people make to drive drunk (can't afford a taxi, there's no other way home etc.), toughening drunk driving laws are only there to punish offenders and grab at their wallets. And while people should not be driving impaired, I don't see a push to make taxi fares tax-deductable and public transit/shuttle bus services available in rural areas and smaller cities with limited mass transit. We need help to break our bad habits, not more damnation when we do. I am sick of looking forward to a time when we'll have figured this all out because we should have done it by now.
  12. "They should begin by creating a U.N. commission of inquiry to investigate human rights violations in Burma." What about more immediate results? The UN is sort of a farce, no?
  13. I'm out but look forward to reading about it.
  14. I would really like to make it up to Grey County from Ottawa for this one.
  15. Some people prefer the PCBs, some people think the parts are superior (though I've read they're not tested/matched as per $$$high end builders$$$), and some people like the mods available. General Guitar Gadgets has some great kit offerings, but BYOC has a few things that set it apart...or so I understand. It's only as good as the guy working the soldering iron after all.
  16. You don't know why the rat is such a hit? Have you played one - like, a lot? Great on bass, killer on guitar driving tubes adding some grit. After a green ringer (BYOC armstrong clone perhaps?), a rat would be intense. Keep us posted. Get some muratic acid and etch the case with a neato 'Rheds' logo that looks like the Rhodes logo? Sawtooth LFO lowpass filter might be better than bi-phasing to give a synthy element he probably doesn't have in his rig. Feedback looping...would be a nice touch too.
  17. Tooly: Make some kind of ring mod up distortion (with a dry blend) into a parallel phaser (with 2 different speeds if he wants) with stereo outs and have him send it back in time 28 hours so I can hear it in Ottawa. Wanna Make it extra cool? Put an effects loop between the 2 stages and run half of the unit back into itself like a feedback loop. If you can have the phaser EF-controllable it would certainly sound incredible on electric piano. Good luck if this sounds cool to you too. It might not be the easiest but certainly neater than another rat clone.
  18. I think you're reading too much into this, Luke...especially when you're talking on one hand about 'the industry' and then on physiology (whichis entirely unrelated) It's probably more like a hack circle than a hormone issue. Hula hoops seem more appealing than playing hacky sack to many. Time spent jamming with a bunch of dudes to get it all right, dealing with hacks and assholes to find the right people to click with... ...I don't think there are too many girls that want to deal with that and all the other stuff that being a fit young girl would bring to that scenario. ...keep in mind she's a bass player and isn't up there to 'shred', dude.

    G20?

It sure took you long enough to post on this thread.

  21. Uh...how about Professionalism, style, and stage presence? I can't act like I don't think she's worth my time when that trio will so obviously be at the very least worth my time to watch online over and over if it ever surfaces. Too bad the issue of Tal Wilkenfeld always turns sour because she's young and physically fit. Though she's pretty much the complete package for 99% of all the pro acts out there, that 1% will pick someone over Tal for (I would presume) a preferred sense of style and character. I dig Russ but what an entirely different type of musician. Here's why I'm tired of this sorry old discussion. No need to bitch about what's really something quite special and appealing. I'm glad that Prince didn't get Esperanza Spalding out on tour. Tal would be a way better choice for a trio IMO...
