  1. If she's not lip-synching on some songs, she's singing along to bed-tracks. Her live vocals would get buried in the mix. It's almost mandatory for theatrical shows with singing. I gotta say though, Gaga sings live while dancing really well (she doesn't use bed-tracks too much either, from the performances I've seen on TV and at a recent MMVA).
  2. According to local media, there's anti-Gaga backlash going on this morning by a number of outraged parents (and some kids) that were mad about the 1:45 delay and the profanity-laced show. I could care less about the latter since Gaga isn't a kiddie act, but the long delay is pathetic. If she were booked in the Amphitheatre, the show would have been cancelled.
  3. They have some old school soul in some of their songs too. Interesting mix for sure.
  4. RS Magazine calls this Saskatoon band one of the top unsigned indie acts. I saw a CBC feature on them, but forgot their name until today. What a day!! Fans of CCR, Guess Who, Dead, Allmans, Zeppelin, Mountain etc... will eat this shit up:
  5. Because of this thread, I had NY Cafe pizza last night: Pepperoni, tomatoes, hot bannana peppers, extra sauce, well-done. Their crust is medium thick, which is more in-lines with Mamma Mia in Kingston and you never have to order extra cheese. The pepperoni has a nice zing to it too.
  6. Eating lots of pizza in Italy and France over the past few years has made me love salami as a topping. I still like pepperoni, but salami seems to be more abundant over there and makes for a nice and tasty change.
  7. Oddly enough, Pizza Nova can be found in parts of Cuba.
  8. I like Pizza Nova, but I've bailed on their unsatisfactory home delivery. The order is often fucked up or the pizza is coldish. I'd rather just pick it up.
  9. I don't like thin-crust pizza. I prefer Chicago-style like they make in my hometown, Kingston. Nothing beats Mamma Mia on Front Rd near the airport. It's hard to find good crust and a healthy dose of cheese in Toronto. For some reason, T.O. joints often skimp on cheese, although having lots may make thin-crust hard to eat.
  10. I've never had a Big Slice slice while sober. It's only passable when drunk. I'm a big pizza fan, but I find it hard to find good pizza in Toronto, which is surprising given the massive Italian population. If you ever visit Riverdale/The Danforth, check out NY Cafe's pizza. You can't buy it by the slice, but even their pizza for one is cheap and delicious... and it really feeds two. Lots of cheese and generous crust and toppings. As chains go, Magic Oven is the best, but expensive.
  11. After some micro brews at bar volo and c'est what. Some record shopping on queen at criminal records and rotate' date=' then up to soundscapes and sonic boom. [/quote'] I like the way you think. I like CR best since they have killer band swag and interesting limited edition concert posters for sale.
  12. I'd like to trade the Trade Deadline hype for the World Junior hype... along with a 7th rounder in 2012.
  13. I was too young to see him play, but loved him on the Expos broadcasts. My late father loved The Duke. R.I.P.

Fuck me...I thought this was a rock and roll movie just by the title...knew nothing about it other than the title.. Boo! Kids Are Alright and Kids Are All Right are great films.

The flow of the show was chopp. I think CTV did a shitty job on the simulcast too: audio was out of phase on the HD signal and the control room op clipped some of the segments coming out of break, especially at the beginning of In Memorium.
  16. I wasn't raised here, but I've lived in Toronto for 20 years and the article is pretty good. Toronto really is a city of thriving and vibrant neighbourhoods; the tourist areas can fuck off. I haven't gone to Jet Fuel yet, but I live near Cabbagetown. I hear the coffee and atmosphere are great, but I usually have my sight set on beer when I'm in Cabbagetown so I head over to the nearby House on Parliament pub. Along with the ROM, I would have mentioned checking out Frank Gehry's new retro-fit of the AGO, hit some more of the neighbourhoods such as Little Korea, Bloor West Village/High Park and the Annex etc... Yorkville is also a must-see area. Pan isn't the best Greek restaurant on the Danforth, but it's good. Overall, out on a day on the town, the article delivers.

Fucking awesome movie. Youtube some Micky Ward boxing clips if you feel so inclined. Marky Mark has his mannerisms down, in and out of the ring.
  18. True. This mess offers a distraction for his domestic abuse charges, and its worked to some extent. Tommy Lee hit Pamela and their son, was convicted of assault, and he gets his own reality show.

The film that won Best Picture the year before Crash, Million Dollar Baby, is another worst/best picture. I can't fucking stand that contrived and unrealistic flick (although I liked Freeman's performance). I saw 8 of the 10 pics nominated and all are good to great. Black Swan is very good.
  20. FWIW' date=' the show hasn't been cancelled, they have just shut down production for this season. Theoretically it's possible for it to come back for another season if things change. Unlikely, and I hope not because I don't like it any more than you do, but the option is still open.[/quote'] Folks can forgive his self-destructive behaviour and womanizing with whores, and even his craziness, but racist anti-semetic rants are never a good idea, especially in Hollywood. Kiss his sitcom goodbye.

Hey folks, I haven't seen all the nominated films or performances, but I've seen most (I missed True Grit and 127 Hours). Just curious what film you think will win for Best Picture and what you'd like to see win. What will win? The King's Speech What you'd like to see win? The Fighter I think Christian Bale should win Best Supporting Actor and I'd like to see Jennifer Lawrence win Best Actress for her stunning performance in Winter's Bone, but the odds are good for Portman to take home the statue.
  22. More like the Nikki of 10 years ago. Sixx runs a branch of Covenant House that helps those recovering from addictions. Perhaps Charlie will enlist his services, if and when the crazy starts to wear off.
  23. I don't remember the VJs, but the Hip put on a good show, for a bunch of KCVI rich boys.
  24. Randy Quaid thinks Charlie is crazy.
