  1. There you go. You like the power-pop/classic rock sides of Jack. The Stripes were a breath of fresh air. Raw, primal and uncompromising, but with keen songwriting chops and the ability to produce thoughtful folk tunes too. Jack is an emotional and aggressive blues-based lead and rhythm guitarist, much more in the mold of old-school garage rockers, punk and Delta blues. He also doesn't care about perfection and goes for it on every song, which is a pretty thrilling ride.
  2. This feels like a kick in the gut, and repeat. One of my top bands ever. I love The Dead Weather and like the Raconteurs, but the Stripes are one of the best and innovative rock bands of their era. Thanks for all the fresh, exciting and devolved takes on rock, blues and folk.
  3. I think they are for next season. Anyone catch the AHL all-star sweaters? Very classy/old school.
  4. Durant also called Bosh a "fake tough guy". I love that kid.
  5. HBO has a good-looking boxing card tonight, especially the main event: two junior welterweight champs square off - the WBO champ vs the unbeaten WBC champ. Unfortunately, it doesn't conflict with the SuperSkills Competition. Oh, and the Raps play a team even worse than they are, and I predict a Timberwolves victory,
  6. It doesn't get much better than the NFL Network airing Pro Bowl practices today.
  7. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  8. A great double-bill, but I wish we got a full hour set from both bands.
  9. You better save time for this show during your DMB marathon weekend.
  10. Check your local PBS listings, but this double-bill is on the HD PBS stations for the Toronto area. This will be awesome.
  11. Picked up only 3rd level, Row C, @ Massey Hall. This baby is more or less sold out. I got the last pair; single seats were still available at 12:30.

King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters is a fantastic doc, on par with similar toned Supersize Me. Any video game fan or anyone who grew up in the '80s must see this film. Hilarious and dramatic.

And it's by far the weakest season of one of the best British comedy series ever. I like some of the episodes though, but Season I isn't overly funny compared to the cunning genius of Season II, III and even IV (the last two feature Hugh Laurie).
  14. Many cops put their lives on the line almost every day. Same with firemen and soldiers. There are many big funerals for soldiers and nothing, and I repeat nothing, beats The Highway of Heroes procession. I'm assuming wooks will line up in Woodstock-like numbers when their guru, Wavy Gravy, leaves this earth for good.
  15. Vernon is a class act, but never lived up to his potential. I like that he was travelling across Ontario this winter in a bus drumming up support for the team with only rookies and young players. However, nice deal for the Jays, especially in unloading what was an unloadable contract.
  16. Dave Feschuk from the Star about an hour ago: http://www.thestar.com/sports/basketball/nba/raptors/article/925778--feschuk-stojakovic-buyout-a-goodwill-gesture
  17. Arrow Hall is the GTA's worst venue, and the surrounding area is even worse. It makes going to a show at Sound Academy pure joy by comparison. I was at that Pixies show at Arrow Hall and even they had trouble getting folks excited about the show, and they played great.
  18. Massey Hall! All over this.
  19. Also on Day I are the Morning Benders, who were The Black Keys openers on their recent tour. Great band and aptly named.
  20. It looks like David Brent will be in next week's Office. I missed most of this year, but may have to tune in.
  21. Day II looks good, even with Duran Duran and Scissor Sisters. Where's Gaga? :content:
  22. My new laptop switches keyboard layers fairly easily and I don't always catch it.
