  1. Some average sitcoms benefit by being filmed in front of a live audience. But the vibe would certainly change for the worse if SCTV, both Offices etc... were shot with laugh-tracks.
  2. I love Horehound and judging by the description of their upcoming album, the new release will be even better, which is saying a fucking lot. Just seven months after their blooze-rocking debut album, Horehound, Jack White's band the Dead Weather are already planning to release their second LP this April, according to a recent interview with the singer-drummer-guitarist-workaholic on Australia's triple j radio. (Via TwentyFourBit.) The news dovetails nicely with a new Dead Weather tour set to start Down Under this March before heading to the U.S. in April. All those dates are below. Naturally, there's even more Jack White-related news than that. In the interview, the man said he takes lead vocal duties on the forthcoming Dead Weather single, called "Blue Blood Blues", and that the new record is "bluesier and heavier than we ever thought we could be." He's also apparently editing no less than six music videos right now, including two for new Third Man Records band the Black Belles. And if you're looking to stock up on Third Man releases and you're heading down to Austin for SXSW this year, you're in luck-- White and company are planning another pop-up store at the fest, which takes place March 17-21. Listen to the triple j interview-- in which White sounds more like Elvis than ever-- here. Lastly, Third Man is starting a new live concert series called, um, Third Man Live. The afternoon shows will take place at Third Man HQ in Nashville and will be "recorded direct to 8-track analog reel-to-reel tape for the purpose of producing a live album," according to the label. The first show will take place tomorrow, February 4, with the Dex Romweber Duo. More info on Third Man Live here. I think that's it. For now. The Dead Weather: 03-17 Auckland, New Zealand - Logan Campbell Centre 03-19 Melbourne, Australia - Forum Theatre 03-23 Brisbane, Australia - Tivoli 03-26 Sydney, Australia - Enmore Theatre 03-29 Perth, Australia - Metro City 03-31 Tokyo, Japan - Zepp 04-15 San Francisco, CA - The Fillmore 04-17 Indio, CA - Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 04-18 Las Vegas, NV - The Pearl Concert Theater 04-20 Albuquerque, NM - Sunshine Theater 04-22 Tulsa, OK - Cain's Ballroom 04-23 Bonner Springs, KS - Sandstone * 04-24 St. Louis, MO - The Pageant 04-26 Lake Buena Vista, FL - House of Blues 04-27 Birmingham, AL - WorkPlay Soundstage 04-28 Memphis, TN - Minglewood Hall 04-30 Austin, TX - Stubb's Waller Creek Ampitheater 05-01 Houston, TX - House of Blues 05-02 New Orleans, LA - New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival * with the Flaming Lips, White Rabbits, Minus the Bear Posted by Ryan Dombal on February 3, 2010 at 1:40 p.m. Tags: Jack White, The Dead Weather, Third Man, Tours
  3. Nice job Derrick! Where is your shop - is it on Bloor Street West, same as your address that you listed? Where and when will you be able to buy these guitars? I already have a G&L ASAT Classic (Leo Fender's version of his classic Tele), but if I want to go in a Strat direction, I wouldn't mind checking out your version.
  4. I'm seriously thinking of going just to see Lou Reed.
  5. The two founding lead singers/guitarists died last decade. This will be a Foghat in name only.
  6. I think the Black Eyed Peas are even uglier than Three Dog Night. And Fergie can't sing in tune to save her butherface life.
  7. The Flames are my #2 team. On a good team, Stajan is a decent third-liner with absolutely no jam. Hagman is a solid third-liner too, and has more grit than he's given credit. I like White; he'll do well in Calgary. Phaneuf is a franchise defenseman but with a teenage mind. If he finds his form of two years ago, then the Leafs will win the trade hands-down.
  8. Lower than that. Perhaps it's more like Ontario Junior A Hockey League or the old Senior A league.
  9. I can't believe Ponikarovsky is still a Leaf. As for the Leafs getting Phaneuf, he's an erratic version of Shea Weber, but he's got an incredible upside to his game, plus he's young. However, the Leafs have a history of ruining great players once they play for the team.
  10. Taylor Hall should start looking for a place in Boston ASAP. Fucking awesome!!
  11. If the Leafs couldn't score before the trades, they'll never do it now. Hey Dave-O, the Leafs would trade Finger, but he's been a healty scratch quite often this season.
  12. I'm not too excited about this deal for Calgary: From TSN: Two teams in dire need of a shakeup have done just that, as the Calgary Flames have shipped defenceman Dion Phaneuf, forward Fredrik Sjostrom, and defenceman Keith Aulie to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forwards Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers and defenceman Ian White.
  13. Suddenly I don't like Calgary as much. I'm betting Calgary got Kaberle or Kessel. There's no way Toronto burned the Flames on this one. Kaberle would be a good power-play QB for the Flames.
  14. It would be a trio, with Booche and I on guitar with no bass a la Jon Spencer (Jimmy Butler on drums). We'd call ourselves The Gout Brothers Band. First release: Our Feets Hurt Like Hell. Second release: The Gout Brothers Live at The Fillmore.
  15. It's not a gate-driven league, which is a positive. Some good ball players are/were in the league. For example, The Toronto Maple Leafs featured ex-Jays Rich and Rob Butler and Paul Spoljaric. It's a fun day out at the ball park, plus you probably can sneak in some snoots.
  16. IBL is a old and fairly good league, historically and quality of baseball-wise. It's on the same level as single A ball, and some IBL players do get drafted into the "Bigs". A number of older ex-pros play in the league too. It's fun baseball and it won't cost you anything - at least they don't charge for Toronto Maple Leaf games (too bad the same can't be said about the hockey version).
  17. That's dangerous (if you're dealing with any of the physical labour)! What about 'turnaround' time? It sounds similar to the impossibly long shifts that people put in when working on film and TV shoots. I've worked on some big music shoots and it is hard work and long hours, but the work has to be done.
  18. Three young black brothers from Detroit recorded this album in the early '70s, but Clive Davis wanted them to change their name. They refused, and the album finally got released last year to raves. The album's songs are a mix of The Stooges, The Who, MC5, Funkadelic and early Alice Cooper. In other words: KICK ASS! Add Death to the list of proto-punk pioneers.
  19. I can't wait for Season VI to start. Great great show and has beautifully maintained a consistent mind-fuck.
  20. I heard opener Sebastian Bach stole the show.
  21. If Axl and company played their gig at a club, then the lateness would be acceptable and even seen as normal. However, the ACC shows traditionally start on or near schedule.
  22. I believe there's a drink curfew at the ACC, plus, if the ticket tells you when the show starts, normally you plan your evening around this. Also, this concert was on a "school night", so rolling home after 2am kinda sucks. Then again, Axl has a history of being erratic, so folks at the concert shouldn't be too shocked by the delayed start time.
  23. Apparently, since Axl "delayed" the start of the show by two hours (or so), the concert ended at around 2am. Nothing like enduring a restless crowd waiting for a bloated idiot and his glorified cover band to go through the motions.
