  1. just got in. Who-ah that was a good partay. some of the best house-jam action I've seen in Toronto! Colin is a hugely positive force. I have no doubt that all his birthday's are all top notch
  2. I got a response from Grant Lawrence himself!!! Check this: Hi Margaret – Our apologies about the Made In The USA tag on the scarf! It really surprised us too, and we usually take the tags off before we mail them… we are currently arranging to have future orders manufactured within Canada, so thanks for those links! All the best – Grant Lawrence CBC Radio 3
  3. Look at that face! Schofield can come and pluck my strings anytime!!!
  4. So I won a scarf on CBC Radio 3 when they used my question during an interview with Jason Collette. It arrived and is absolutely gorgeous! Totally old-school; blue with a big red CBC logo and "Radio 3" emblazoned across a gold stripe. My only dream now is to put it on and pose for with Ron McLean. The kicker was when I opened it up to find a big US flag label that boldly stated "Made in the USA means jobs kept in the USA". Wha? Like a slap in the face I tell ya! I wrote a letter to them today and provided contact info for some Canadian manufacturers... hopefully they stop sending out CBC product with U.S. flags and messaging all over it. What I want to know is why publicly-funded organizations/companies are not mandated to implement local or at least domestic procurement policies? Why would we want to fund them to buy stuff that "keeps jobs in the USA"?
  5. Another great night of NuJazz. I was at Planet Earth though. Kevin Breit was awesome of course. I rode over to Supermarket in the rain, hoping to catch the end, but showed up (soaking wet), only to see them packing up stage. Ah well. All the more dancing energy left for the Hypnotic Brass tonight!!!
  6. The problem isn't just pollutants, it's space in our cities as well. Gridlock is going to continue to worsen if we keep supporting the culture of big vehicles like SUVs that mostly sit parked and empty, or taking up huge amounts of road space for individual drivers.
  7. NuJazz is also on the cover of this weeks NOW magazine... Jay even wears a blazer to his shows now!!!
  8. Yeah it already started, but the Herbalizer show tonight was incredible and I'm pumped to know who's hitting what else over the weekend. 16. Foutin good times yesterday! 7 hours in court discussing the exciting structural intricacies of Municipal Class Environmental Assessment requirements. Who-ah! It was actually really interesting to me, and watching high-profile lawyer Clay Ruby in action before a panel of 3 Superior Court Judges was something else. I highly recommend a visit to Osgood Hall at Queen & Uni if you haven't seen it before. Absolutely gorgeous building. Beware - full search with metal detector & cops at front entrance.
  17. wish me luck today... Toronto Cyclists Take Battle for Safe Streets to Court Coalition of Bicycle Advocates Intervene in Court Case FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wed. Oct. 8, 2008 TORONTO: In what might otherwise be considered "strange bed fellows," Bloor merchants and cycling advocates are doing battle in the courts against the City of Toronto on Thursday Oct. 9th at 10 a.m. at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Divisional Court), 130 Queen St. West. The case, first brought to the Ontario Superior Court in August by certain downtown merchants including William Ashley China Ltd., alleges that the City of Toronto violated the province's Environmental Assessment Act when it proceeded with the Bloor St. Transformation Project – along Yorkville’s so-called Mink Mile – and failed to properly consult the public or to study alternatives. “This is one of Toronto’s most valuable public spaces – a $25 million ‘transformation’ of that space warrants public consultation,†explains Margaret Hastings-James, a Bloor Street bike-commuter who began to advocate for bike lanes when hit, and nearly crushed, by a truck in 2002. “The huge volume of pedestrian and cyclist traffic in this area demands an allotment of dedicated and safe space.†The intervening citizen advocate group called the Safe Cycling Coalition asserts that proper classification of the project would have allowed cyclists the opportunity to highlight provincial laws that direct municipalities to ensure the safety of all road users. Cycling advocates have long pushed city politicians for a bike lane on Bloor St. – one of the city's most heavily used, and most dangerous, cycling routes. “The Bloor St. Transformation Project does have some positive features for pedestrian traffic,†said Angela Bischoff, member of the Coalition. “Unfortunately the City has again forgotten cyclists. The word 'bicycle' didn't even make it into the reconstruction report. That’s not fair, and it’s certainly not safe.†“The battle for safe cycling conditions in Toronto has now reached a new phase,†said Albert Koehl, lawyer representing the group of cyclists. “The urgency of problems like global warming and air pollution means we can no longer tolerate old-school approaches to fixing our inefficient and dirty transportation system. Bicycles are zero-emission vehicles that deserve a safe space on our roads.†- 30 -
  18. Registration deadline's been extended - you save $10 doing online anyway. You should be collecting pledges Dude! The money is all going to local cycling clubs around the Greenbelt.
  19. Cirque du Soleil is killer dude. Like nothing Ive ever seen! They have awesome nudity at the shows here and I've heard that Vegas ups the anti.
  20. Do T.O. It's worth it just for the independent magazine selection alone. Also, un-fucking-believable line up of authors in the house... stage performances, panel discussions, workshops and more! The only bad thing about Tour de Greenbelt is that this will be the first year I haven't volunteered at Word on the Street in 6 years!!!
