Sting Scales Down For Spring Tour

I have seen every Sting tour since 1993 and I will be excited to see this one. It will be the smallest band since his '93 tour when he toured as a four piece, though it had David Sancious on keyboards not two guitarists as this tour will have.

See you in London, ON on April 22, 2005.

Sting Scales Down For Spring Tour

Since establishing himself as a solo artist, Sting's tour's have become grand affairs featuring large bands. That will change in April, when he launches the Broken Music tour, backed by just three other players.

Set to kick off April 1 in San Jose, Calif., the tour will feature Sting on bass and vocals, longtime guitarist Dominic Miller, guitarist Shane Fontayne (Bruce Springsteen, Lone Justice) and drummer Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle). At deadline, 11 shows make up the itinerary, running through an April 29-30 stand in Atlantic City, N.J. More dates are expected, according to the artist's official Web site.

Los Angeles-based rock act Phantom Planet will open all shows on the tour, except the New Jersey engagement, support for which is to be determined.

Some shows will take place on college campuses, where students will have access to tickets prior to the general public. Sting.com members will also have access to pre-sale opportunities, some beginning as early as Thursday (Dec. 2). Some venues will also include general admission areas in front of the stage, with those tickets priced at $30.50, according to the site.

Sting is still in the midst of a European leg of his Sacred Love tour, which plays Milan tonight (Nov. 30). He will wrap his 2004 dates with a Dec. 9 show in Copenhagen, and will launch an 11-date Asian swing Jan. 10 in Singapore.

Released in October 2003, "Sacred Love" (A&M/Interscope) debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200. As previously reported, Sting re-recorded his 1987 No. 7 Billboard Hot 100 hit "We'll Be Together" with North American tourmate Annie Lennox for the recently released Geffen soundtrack to "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason."

didn't Sting turn into a cheese maker? I haven't really followed him in a long time.

As I recall, The Dream of the Blue Turtles was okay but had the stupidest title ever (other than that Fiona Apple one that was about 96 words long), ...Nothing Like The Sun was flawed but quite good, Soul Cages and Ten Summoners Tales were fu©kin' excellent, Mercury Rising wasn't half bad... and then I never paid attention again.

Incidentally, Sting's guitarist, Dominic Miller, is really quite good. Check him out.

I'd like to make a small adjustment to Hamilton's overview. Dream of the Blue Turtles was excellent, Nothing Like The Sun and Soul Cages were both alright (a touch self-indulgent, but this is Sting we're talking about), Ten Summoners Tales was indeed fu©kin' excellent, Mercury Rising was bland, Brand New Day was downright boring and I couldn't even tell you about the latest release. I last saw Sting in 2001 and thought it was atleast 10 years too late. Interesting that he's dropped the keyboard players and back-up singers though.

I saw him at the Molson Amp sometime probably around 1996 and it was an *excellent* show.

And yes, Ten Summoner's Tales and The Soul Cages are fantastic and Dream of the Blue Turtles is still a great listen. Don't underestimate the Sting-ster, I bet these upcoming shows will be very good indeed.

When I was in NYC last fall I was lucky enough to score some Letterman tickets at the last minute and sure enough out came Sting. He played some of his funky worldly music. Apparently he lives on Central Park, so the Letterman show was kind of like a neighborhood gig for him.

I am definitely a fan, he is cool and all POLICE music is Classic.

Of course this entire list would be debatable, but i believe these artists/bands put out better music than Sting, in the 80's:

Supertramp

David Bowie

Dire Straits (close, probably tie)

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Aerosmith (maaaaaybe...but i'm just having fun w/ this list)

The Eagles

Michael Jackson (he kicked MAJOR ASS in the 80's)

Tom Petty

There...thats a few off the top of my head....now one would argue (mainly timmyB) that Sting had a bigger impact on music than Tom Petty, and that very well may be true...but Tom Petty kicks ass!!! (more than sting....lol)

Twisted sister made better music than post police sting.

and you can't take TimmyB "seriously"?? :: lol! ::

I'll never figure out how people can be so aggressive and/or defensive at the mere mention of artists or bands they don't themselves care for.

Shall we get back to our erudite discussions on the merits of cereals and maybe sell off some used vehicles?

all right dude i can't take anything you say seriously after this. sting? U2? what? take this sh!t to the sting board please. you can talk about his new commercial for lexus or something.

I'll talk about any type of music I like on this board, if you don't like it then don't read my threads.

I don't tell you what to do, so don't tell me what to do.

Sting and U2 have created beautiful music for decades that is loved by millions of people the world over, including some people on this board as some posts on these threads have shown.

Why don't you give me a list of your favorite artists so I can make fun of you.

Here's some of mine in no particular order, how about alphabetical.

The Allman Brothers Band, The Band, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Beck, Big Star, The Black Crowes, Blue Rodeo, Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Calexico, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen...

Ah that's enough I'm sure you can make fun of me some more from the letters A through C.

Go right ahead, i'm still going to respond. If you don't like it don't read my posts.

They've also made a lot of sh!tty music and you need to know this. record sales doesn't equal good music.

Why don't you give me a list of your favorite artists so I can make fun of you.

all right. well of bands that i've seen the most

1. ween

2. pearl jam

3. tool

flame away timmmaaaa

The Allman Brothers Band, The Band, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Beck, Big Star, The Black Crowes, Blue Rodeo, Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Calexico, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen...

you clearly have good taste in music. I just can't believe some one who lists beck as one of their favorite artists is this stoked over a sting show that's not till april.

you have you tastss and i have mine. blabh albahblabh. but if you're gonna post on a jambands forum about an artist who's clearly washed up and sold out long ago don't expect not to get made fun of.
