a group known for widespread drug use gathering in a state park in a community that told them many times that they didn't want them there.... with a history of trouble with the authorities....

what a freakin surprise.

nothing but elitists and uninformed hypocrites.

Whatever. It might be true but you don't point guns at and definately don't shoot children, doesn't matter if they are poor or their parents are lost. Granted if the parents are all fucked up maybe social services should step in but you don't shoot children. Now, the dirty hippies on the other hand, well, if they are trespassing and have been told not to be there then a couple rubber bullets ain't the end of the world...

ever think that the rainbow family was instructed to video tape, and exaggerate anytime cops were on the grounds?

i heard no shots fired and didn't see any kind of misconduct from that video.

infact... i can barely see any police officers.

not to say that cops always do the right thing...

just sayin...

cops firing into a crowd....with children... kinda outlandish.

" "The Rainbow Family purposely poises itself on the brink of anarchy, that its gatherings attract dangerous and idle masses that overwhelm county and state services, disregard local communities, and destroy the natural resources the group claims to worship." The Forest Service Incident Management team cost federal taxpayers $750,000 in 2006, and the team handled the gathering in Colorado that year and other large events in National Forests. A similar gathering, The Burning Man Festival held each year in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, pays the Bureau of Land Management $750,000 for a permit, and recoups the cost by charging attendees between $185 and $250"

In July, 2008, an incident occurred at a Rainbow Gathering in Wyoming when forest Service officers tried to arrest a member of the group. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service said that about 400 participants in the Gathering began to advance, throwing sticks and rocks at the officers.[2] Pepper balls were then fired to control the crowd.[3] Witnesses reported that officers pointed weapons at children and fired rubber bullets at gathering participants.[4] One witness was reported as saying "They were so violent, like dogs"[4] The ACLU said it would investigate the behavior of the officers a spokesmen saying that they were concerned by the handling of the situation "Particularly the pretext arrests — the idea that people are just cruising around looking for people to arrest when there have been no complaints and no reason for them to be there."

Just to add the paragraph from wikipedia which follows the one dima just put up.

Ten Forest Service officers were patrolling the main meadow of the Rainbow Family's camping area Thursday night and apprehended one person described as being uncooperative, Rita Vollmer, spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service, said in a statement Friday.

.....

State troopers have also arrested two people this week on felony drug charges for allegedly possessing 96 hits of LSD, said Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Hmmm, do they always patrol in groups of 10 or just when there is a gathering of hippies? I bet if they investigated a bit further they'd find way more hits than that at the place.

The powers that be have been for the last 30 years trying to stop the Rainbow gatherings.they say a permit is needed for groups over a certain number to gather ,even though they are in national forest which are free to everyone.the reason there is not video footage is probably because as usual the Police attack in large numbers and the folks were taken by surprise also there is no power at the gatherings and batteries are at a premium.to think that the gathering is anywhere near civilization is a joke .the presense of Police in that number is obvious they have come to do excactly what the video footage claims.Gatherings are a wonderful thing and I hope they will always continue.

that many police... with paintball guns. Ok, I can see a group of forest rangers dudes maybe being bored and patrolling together (not really) but with their paintball guns at the ready (paintball guns with pepper balls which are not used to stop animals, they are used to break up gatherings of people).
