rubberdinghy Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Should I jump in there Saturday and buy a handful, and piss the rest of you off?
phorbesie Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 i don't care what you do dinghy, i don't waste my time thinking about scalpy scumbags
Kanada Kev Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 So, you have the opportunity to turn $100 into $1000. Do you do it? I had a Phish poster that I purchased at the Great Went. I kept it safe during the horrendous weather at the start of that fest. Turns out it is the Holy Grail of Phish posters. I bought it for $25, somebody paid me $4000.00 for it. I guess I should have sold it to him for face value since he was a kind Phishead?? If I got tix for Hampton I would be tempted (and would most likely do it) sell 'em if somebody was throwing 10x the purchase price for them. That would get me into one helluva lot of concerts.
phorbesie Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 to each their own, i would not do that. have had opportunities plenty of times (sought after phish tix, neil at massey, etc)
rubberdinghy Posted October 16, 2008 Author Report Posted October 16, 2008 I've got some old nero posters....$250 anyone?
AD Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 somebody paid you $4000 for a phish poster?:flabbergasted:did you manage to catch them while they were inhaling the nitrous or just afterwards?insanity!
ollie Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Karma's a bitch Kev! No wonder the Leafs haven't won the cup.
Kanada Kev Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Yup! Actually it was more than that. I had forgotten. Take a look here: http://www.expressobeans.com/public/detail.php/40 Mine was #41 or #22. I'll have to check my photos at home. It was for the Great Went Robot print. They figure there are only about 25 of them that survived the weekend with no damage. The purchaser was a serious Phish poster collector out in Oregon. He had the money and wanted it. A serious bidding war happened when I sold it on eBay. While it was a nice reminder of the event, it looked more like a $4000 piece of parchment when I discovered it's "fair market value" http://www.phishposterarchive.com/phish-went-stories.htm
Basher Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Wait a second - is ANYONE saying that what Kev did with his poster was not right?
phorbesie Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 i think we all know how you feel basher.
Basher Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Selling artwork above face value is not right?OMG.
Booche Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Stop panicking. No one is saying that from what I am reading.
phorbesie Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I don't think art is the same as a ticket. Like I said, to each their own.Relax.
ollie Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I'm saying Kevin is a big doody head if that clears things up.
backbacon Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I don't see selling a poster above the inital cost as dubious at all.I do agree that making money off tickets is scummy... I sure have been tempted in the past, though, to snatch up a pair of Britney tix to finance a sunny vacation!
Freak By Night Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I don't see selling a poster above the inital cost as dubious at all.I do agree that making money off tickets is scummy... I sure have been tempted in the past, though, to snatch up a pair of Britney tix to finance a sunny vacation!I like the way you used "snatch" and "Britney" so close together in a sentence!
Big Wooly Mammoth Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 It's an ugly poster anyways. Good on ya Kev!
phishtaper Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Wait a second - is ANYONE saying that what Kev did with his poster was not right?i am. he's a dirty rotten scoundrel. hehe ...wanna see poster flipping at its most controversial ... check out this discussion and these prices
Schwa. Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Not the same at all. not even the same ballpark.
Velvet Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 If someone swoops in and buys all the posters and then stands in front of the sold-out poster booth selling the posters at inflated prices...well, I'd think that person was a goonball. Not attacking Kev at all, just trying to equate the situation to professional scalpers.
questcequecest? Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 could you restate your case using Britney as an example, please?
