I checked out the Sturgill Simpson yesterday. It sounded like Garth Travis

I often buy $100 worth of iTunes albums on weekends with my work entertainment allowance, so now I have some new music to consider.cheers
Northern Wish
Out of those, War on Drugs probably wins out as my album of the year. I'd like to reset on this choice. After two perfect music listening experiences over the past week, nothing that was released this year moves me the way The Barr Brothers release does. It is both delicate and powerful, familiar and challenging, mournful and triumphant. Fuckin eh!!
bONES
This morning (I'm in the Philippines, so about 12 hours ago), I bought Spoon, Foxygen, Barr Brothers, The War on Drugs & the latest Leonard Cohen album on iTunes.Thank you to all for posting in this thread.I've already listened to most of them (except Leonard) and they are all GREAT albums.I can spend another $50 bucks tomorrow, so I'm going to look into more of the suggestions posted.Keep them coming !Thanks a bunch

Booche
There are a few here I agree with, many I havent heard so thank you for that. One of my favorites just came my way and I am amazed DaveO didnt list it simply because he sent that suggestion along my way and I think it would trump his Wooden Sky call Elijah Ocean - Bring It All In I fucking immediately fell in love with that one but War On Drugs wins in my books. That came strong into my 2014 early enough that no one was going to come close. I find it amazing someone could put Fuego in their BEST list while someone else could put it in their WORST. Phish dont put out great albums but that was easily the best thing they released since Round Room. For my money its not even close. I am happy enough they are back to writing that inspires the rest of their material.
