  1. Buffalo tonight!! Snow and freezing rain isn't supposed to start until 4am, so safe travels (or hotel stays) Looking forward to a fun gig tonight. Just gotta get through work ...
  2. That totally sucks. Sorry to hear it. First thing I thought of is what Low Roller said ... the people who installed the board 3 months ago. They know the value, where to get at it, etc. Are there any other hot tub service providers in your area? Maybe they figure you'll just call them up and have them "fix" it again, and they'll charge you to put in the same board. Any chance of calling the cops and seeing if this has happened to any other hot tub owners in the area? You never know. Good luck.
  3. Introducing real-world, and current examples for teaching topics is always a useful tool. More teachers should do it. Of course it will engage the students more if you talk about something they have some familiarity with, or connection to. Utilize crime stats for math sure, but use them where appropriate. I know that if they had used "black crime" stats when I was taking math it would have made the news for other reasons! I agree with what was said before. These sort of programs are valuable when incorporated into school studies, but not to completely take over a curriculum. It all comes down to teaching like Venus Flytrap:
  4. Two nice vid clips set to a short Hitchens lecture. Enjoy.
  5. ARRGGHH ... go figure. I hope that some news outlet does a breakdown of the trustees and their votes.
  6. Article that summarizes the story here: http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/298714 I love this argument: So, this is the core problem? The fact that a specific "heritage" and lack of "black" teachers is why so many drop out? I guess that's why the Asian, SE Asian and other groups are having such difficulties in the public system too and dropping out at the same rate?
  7. Yup, that's officials making decisions based on high quality research and learnings from the past ... pffft! What a joke. I think this is appauling! It's being labelled as an "alternative" school. You'd think that they would have learned from all the recent debate around the funding of faith-based schools ... now "race" based schools???? What fucking year is it? PUBLIC schools are meant to be places of learning and community centres for ALL citizens. The reason they should be publically funded is based on the fact that they service the public ... all of it. Now we've got a public school where the FIRST CRITERIA for admission is the requirement of being "black" in skin colour!! I can't wait until somebody kicks up a fuss because a student there isn't "black enough"!!! Shame on the TDSB and their trustees for this. Shame!

  16. http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/dt/genesis-concert/20050266-2575.html?utm_source=NL&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=080123 Genesis Hammersmith Odeon London 06/10/1976 Tracks: 8 Total Time: 59:21 Dance on A Volcano6:29 The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway7:23 The Carpet Crawlers5:20 The Cinema Show10:56 Robbery, Assault And Battery5:43 White Mountain6:28 Firth Of Fifth8:37 Los Endos8:25 Phil Collins - vocals, drums Tony Banks - keyboards Mike Rutherford - bass, guitar, vocals Steve Hackett - guitar Chester Thompson - drums, percussion This live recording by Genesis was a landmark King Biscuit Flower Hour appearance because it marked the first time the band had been heard on a national broadcast with its new line-up, after the departure of lead singer Peter Gabriel. The band had toured for over a year between 1974 and 1975, performing 103 shows on the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour knowing the whole time that Gabriel would be departing to focus on his new family and to launch a solo career. The band had pleaded with Gabriel not to go public with his decision to leave, because the members feared they could not move forward without their charismatic lead vocalist. However, after the Lamb tour ended, Genesis decided to carry on. Over 150 vocalists auditioned, and drummer Phil Collins, who had been already doing backing vocals for years, often would organize the auditions and show the replacement tryouts how they wanted the existing Genesis songs sung. When Rutherford and Banks heard Collins sing the songs to those auditioning, they realized their replacement for Peter Gabriel was already in the band. It was ultimately decided Collins would get the job and an additional drummer would be brought in. They emerged in 1976 with A Trick Of The Tail, what many fans consider the definitive Genesis album. The show presented a smooth transition featuring the best of the new material (“Dance On A Volcano†“Robbery, Assault And Battery,†“Los Endosâ€) and classic older Genesis songs (“The Lambs Lies Down On Broadway†“The Carpet Crawlers†“The Cinema Show†“White Mountain†and “Firth Of Fifthâ€). Even with their popular lead vocalist gone, Genesis was about to enter their most commercially successful period, which climaxed in the early 1980s when the band became considerably more radio friendly and less engrossed in the progressive rock genre. A more than solid set from a group fresh into a whole different chapter of their careers; a new Genesis was about to begin.
  17. I just went for a walk at lunch and listened to the first half as well c-towns. Like you, i'm not sold yet. This isn't Conch by any means. It really does sound kinda "basic". I don't know if that is the best way to describe it. I'll have to listen to it a couple of more times, and see some of it live at the Town Ballroom
