  1. I remember an 8 month peroid when the "indie"-ish Bus material was fresh and the performance perhaps a little clunky though I didn't enjoy the shows during that period quite as much as killer shows I'd seen I love that material ever since that 8 month period when the band was going through a transition I have no idea why people keep crying "indie"... that album is a fantasic listen and once the songs got smoothed out on stage I think they're great last few shows I caught (before the band took the last year off to take a little time to get married) there was no lack of older material... and we were sure dancin nobody is ever going to sway my firm belief that the Bus are one of the best songwriting and performing bands in the country... imagine the suprise when the Grateful Dead released "disco" songs (during the height of the "Disco Sucks!" movement no less... suddenly if you were in the camp that thought "Zeppelin Rules!" it wasn't cool to also like the good ol' Grateful Dead) not sure why "indie" is wrong, or even why that album gets labeled that... the message seems to be "don't change or take chances... play the same show"... to me its just "The Bus" sorry, had to rant will add that: I missed last week's show so am maybe not in the best position to judge the current Bus performance ability, though I put faith in BradM's positive review... just saying I'm looking forward to the next show I can catch... and apperently that I like "indie"
  2. one of the best bands I've ever seen in a bar HIGHLY recommended the opening acts recieve a lot of very positive hype as well (though I'm unfamiliar) http://www.pepperjackcafe.com/live.htm#gls
  3. yup, was how the e-mail read... "Cancelled for the second time" seriously you should bring your sister out on Friday night and blow your and her mind while seeing Great Lake Swimmers... utterly utterly incredible band... crazy beautiful vocals/songs... saw them last year and they dropped me through the floor
  4. I got a worrisome e-mail from kc saying that Chinna Smith cancelled edger... need to double check it but I think you should brace yourself (which sucks)
  5. Toronto can be a hard crowd... not always, especially not if there's a strong out of city representation the worst is when you get the "zombie line"... people who feel their $8/$10 admission grants them the right to stand directly in front of the stage and shoot dirty looks back at anyone who's dancing behind them... if you get 30 people in such a line it can be almost impenetrable best call is get up front before the band begins so you can start the dancin off proper (hilarious -> the first link that came up in checking the spelling of "impenetrable" on Google was a paper entitled "In Defense of Impenetrable Zombies")
  6. while I've always enjoyed the band that was a kick seeing 200 grinning bouncing bodies doing so too
  7. would say the easiest place to locate such a show would be on here - Lossless Legs traders community specializing in all things Grateful Dead (amongst related bands)... membership is free and uncomplicated
  8. That's probably a good thing... undoubtably the status of being able to still fill up live shows without the benefit of extensive positive message board coverage
  9. all I know is have really enjoyed many a Slowcoaster show, and this last was my favorite yet by far... was quite blown away by the Steve's guitar work and vocals but actually mostly blown away by how far this band has come in the few years I've been checkin them out... simply a great band the controversy appears to be elevating them to Bus/Wassabi/Slip loved/hated by all status
  10. awesome! very lookin forward to seein you guys and doin a little catchin up
  11. plans fell through (plus a wicked Hooters hangover)... really wanted to see it but became an impossibility... tis my good dad's birthday today (yes, his name is Patrick) glad some good times got had... alternatively I don't know how some people don't get the bus... suppose I've seen a show or two that didn't totally rock me (amongst the dozen that blew my freakin mind!) guess if the Grateful Dead could drop a sleeper show on me all the way from home in Oakland, California back in 2002 ("why do I like these guys again?") anyone can cheers to green beers!
  12. loved the voice of tragically short lived Mia Zapata, lead singer of The Gits goosebumps
  13. Gillan's stint with Sabbath was certainly interesting (recorded all his vocal tracks nude rumour had it) Trashed Ahhh, Ah It really was a meeting The bottle took a beating The ladies of the manor Watched me climb into my car And I was going down the track about a hundred and five They had the stopwatch rolling Had the headlights blazing I was really alive And yet my mind was blowing I drank a bottle of tequila and I felt real good I had the tape deck roaring But on the twenty-fifth lap at the canal turn I went off exploring I knew I wouldn't make it the car just couldn't take it I was turning, tires burning The ground was in my sky I was laughing. The bitch was trashed And death was in my eye
  14. Carole Pope still puts on an amazing show if you ever get the chance... I was suprised how killer she is live... new material is great and her band and her are obviously still feeling it strong (does high school confidential as its expected, if cliche, but the rest of the show is awesome too) Carole @ PJC
  15. phew indeed PoG, thanks for the update (((continued heady healing vibes)))
  16. 6th place must... get... a... life....
