    Hip Hop 2010

I worked the concept movie premiere for the new album and I liked almost every overwrought song. Kanye doesn't have much of a singing voice, but it doesn't matter too much. I think the album will be on top of many year end Best Of lists.
  2. I remember going out for my formal dinner and when the waiter asked me if I wanted a drink, I asked for a "beer". I guess I should have specified what kind of beer I wanted.
  3. I thought the rockabilly performance with Jack White was mostly kickass; loved the dueling guitars. The show itself will take a little while to find its groove, like most shows do.

    BEER!!

The Barley Days Brewery in Picton has some really nice beers. I sampled all of their brews at the Royal Agricultural Fair in Toronto a few days back (you can buy some of them in select LCBOs across the province). My favourite was their I.P.A. (American-style), but you can only buy that variety at their brewery. No matter, they are all really good. I'll be looking for Loyalist Lager and the Pale Ale at the LCBO. http://www.barleydaysbrewery.com/
  5. Our formal was in '87. Don't add any years onto us '68ers.
  6. I'm in for the Christmas party and I'm long overdue for an Ottawa roadtrip.
  7. What's next? A pardon for Ray Manzarek's creepy 45-year Morrison man-crush?

    Win a Gretsch!

I've read some good reviews of this guitar, which is great considering it's made offshore. I'm in!

    BEER!!

It may have been off. I found it pretty good, but not as zingy hoppy as even the near pale Hoptical Illusion. I'll try it again though.

    BEER!!

As insane as it is throwing beer down the drain, I didn't love the Trafalgar Hop Nouveau; it's on the weak side as American-style pales go.
  12. Heart arguably jumped the same shark that Jefferson Starship did. Most of their '80s-'90s output was middle of the road commercial pap. However, their '70s stuff kicks ass and I see their original lineup is back, including terrific guitarists Roger Fisher and Howard Leese. It should be cool seeing Fisher playing with the Wilsons again since he's been out of Heart since 1980. Man, those solos on the early songs are fucking awesome.
  13. But I will enjoy reading your report' date=' as always. [/quote'] My report got deleted; turned into pixel dust. Or burned up like a Hendrix Strat.

  15. Was this show worth the price? I'm a HUGE Hendrix fan, but I didn't want to go figuring this would turn into a shred-fest, plus I fucking hate blooze-rock punks Kenny Wayne and Jonny Lang. If you want a progressive blues guy that was heavily influenced by Hendrix and would also be interesting Canadian content, Frank Marino would have been a nice surprise guest. Billy Cox fucking rules, but I'm only a casual fan of Los Lobos and admire but don't love Stevie Vai and Eric Johnson. Vernon should have eaten up Hendrix material, but found this observation by Monkey disappointing: "Vernon Reid was my favourite guitar player of the night.. but their renditions still kind of still felt misguided. No one played good versions of anything, really." I wish for Buddy Guy and/or Hubert Sumlin doing a whole show of Hendrix covers with Chris Layton and Billy Cox backing them, but they certainly wouldn't draw Sony Centre numbers.
  16. LOVE this album. I'm going to see them tonight in Guelph. I hear they are great in concert. PS is a heck of a guitarist... and has been known to make a mean cup of coffee at the Sleepless Goat in Kingston.
  17. I'll be shocked if Chantal can pull a rabbit out of her hat and do some sort of justice to "Tears of Rage"; but I do hope she does a good job of the song. She's extremely arrogant, self-obsessed and over-dramatic. During an interview, she was asked what was the first song she ever learned on guitar. She said: "One of my own songs". She also named her dog after herself. Being married to a fuckface a-hole only adds to her credibility.

  19. I liked Big Wreck and I've seen Thornley join the Mule in Toronto on a few occassions. He can hold his own with Haynes no problem. However, he's now a Chad Kroeger guy (he signed with Kroeger's label and thus has all of his songs and overall sound tweaked to Kroeger specifications).
  20. I can't wait to hear Raine Maida and his model wife improve classic Band. I hope Bruce keeps Thornley (Nickelback Light) in-check too. Overall though, there's some potentially good collaborations.

I have a bottle of it in my fridge; will drink it Friday night while watching the Raptors getting slaughtered.
