Agreed! But, like that disc itself, sadly some of the folks singing it missed the boat.

The tribute part was 'meh' imho. Sarah Harmer was good, as were Jim Cuddy and Sarah Slean... but aside from Kevin Hearn playing an actual Lowrey orgran and taking a great synth solo, the rest of it and the "Shape I'm In" was pretty bland and lifeless, even with Sadies behind it. It's supposed to be a desperate song, right on the edge of completely crashing... but no one really treated it that way. They made it boring.
  4. Yup. Instrumental. It's fun to show up at the Orbit Room and play that in-house B3 too. Fun guys to play with - it's too bad this ended so quick.
  5. There's been a band doing the monday slot at the Orbit Room since last summer called The Outlanders. I've had the pleasure of sitting in with them for the last few weeks.... as will I do this Monday, the 28th. It's also the last monday for live music before they switch over to a monday night DJ. The band's really good, and sadly the audiences have been pretty slim. Perfect for an early monday... feel free to stop by between 9:30 and 11:30. http://outlanders.ca/
  6. Hopefully soon... just figuring out now what to do in the Spring. Any venue suggestions Mike?
  7. Now if only I could take that advice myself. One day... Just a heads up, the show in WLoo is cancelled tonight. They figured no one would pay the 5 bucks, so they're just cutting their losses. Or... we cancelled cause of the crappy snowy driving conditions.
  8. It's funny... it really depends on the city for what the cover is. Smaller town folk just won't pay big cover for bars. That's just the way it is. Some towns have no cover, but the bands still get paid... which kind of spoils it for the bands that do need to charge cover. It's weird. In that case, it comes down to perception. If you're just playing in a bar, then that's way people treat it. Perhaps if you wanna get a bigger cover out of people, change their perception of you. Do the show in hall and make it more of an event. The same kind of way you trick fans into coming to a show early. People would never go to a bar at 7pm for a gig, but put that show in the proper room, and they do. Come out next Tuesday to the Dakota Jay... our last one. Although, I'm pretty sure Karate Man was by Matt Murphy and the Superfriendz, but Pete was in the band for a few tours. And, in all seriousness, that song I posted was written and recorded almost completely in a limo - so I have faith in it. Elkas Band, Pinecones and Wayne Petti tonight at the Starlight. Five bucks!
  9. To continue to stray off topic.... It's totally a band's responsibility to know when to change the cover, and run a fair door. Whether it's the band's guy or not, whatever fan is at the door getting charged full cover when there's 25 minutes left is gonna be pissed at the band. Rightfully so. Sure it's tough and expensive to be on the road, but you can't rip people off - they remember, and you come out looking bad, which in turn makes for less people at your next gig. If you're feeling the pinch on tour, rather than opting to squeeze extra cash out of your audience to make ends meet, maybe you should write better songs and promote yourself more so you're not in that situation in the first place. I'm of course not pointing any fingers... I've been there. And I am there.... I've seen too many people at the door for my Tuesday night Dakota gigs this month turn away bitching about the $12 cover for FOUR FUCKING BANDS. That being said, Gisto's video looks great. Congrats to him for sticking to his thing and doing something with it. Here's my new video. No shit. I'm gonna sell this song to Shawn Desman and buy you all personalized jet skiis.
  10. Tuesdays have been amazing so far at The Dakota... Round 4 this week... tonight w/ Ben Gunning Band as well as Wayne Petti & The Thieves!!

  13. Nope, just tonight. And she's got all of BNB backing her up. Me and Mike with her on guitar and accordion for a few tunes, then the whole band for some electric charm. Gonna be a great night! Here's the lineup for tonight at the Dakota... 10:00 - Serena Jean 10:45 - Wayne Petti (from Cuff the Duke) 11:30 - Elkas Band 01:00 - BNB
  14. music should start around 10ish... serena jean on first, then elkas, then BNB. We should be on around 1... but I imagine the place will fill up quick. If you wanna avoid waiting in line (possibly for a long time as the place is small and the tuesdays have been selling out each week), come early and catch all the sets.

  20. Not sure if Kindle has a dictionary, but from what I've heard, it doesn't recognize all the book formats out there. There's tons of free books available (including Library websites!!) i don't think you can utilize with a Kindle. They may be changing that, but I know that's what they were like last year. I have a Sony Reader and my wife has a reader pocket version. I've had mine for a year, but re-researched them when I got Debbie her's for christmas. Sony has a great screen... cheap enough, reads multiple formats, and very durable.
  21. Ha! I wish I knew how to access that site for updates... that photo's one we needed right when we became a 5 piece, so I erased Dan and put that awesome black background, and made Mike's hair kinda funny. Maybe it was anyway. Coincidentally, that site also seems to have our entire Five Alive live CD on it.
  22. REPEAT OFFENDER is set for release on February 22 on New Scotland Records (www.newscotlandrecords.com). Visit www.peterelkas.com and find a sneak listen to new tracks when you hit play songs, and watch a live video of the band performing Anticipation at the Dakota Tavern in October 2010. March will see the Elkas band doing residencies in Toronto, Waterloo and Guelph as well!
