    Crowes at Rama

the London show was killlller. and not surpisingly, the new material was the best IMHO.
  3. A little history of the band, as I know them all pretty good. A few years ago, paso mino approached Jason, having already learned his whole record, proposing to be his backing band. They did that for a while, and then after a tour with Feist, lost guitarist Afie J to Feist. Then keyboardist/guitarist Mike O'Brien moved to guitar, Gregory MacDonald of Sloan joined on keys, and Mike Clive left the bass position, to be replaced by Jer little. When Collett's stuff slowed down, Mike Obrien started Zeus , with 6itxy8ights Carlin Nicholson, and taylor knox and dave azzolini of the golden dogs. Their first gig was actually opening for an Elkas gig at the rivoli. But the golden dogs called, and dave and taylor were replaced by neil quinn (formerly of the golden dogs and major grange) and robbie drake (of paso mino and collet's band).
  4. They actually are his backing band, and have been for a good while. Zeus is what they do when they're not with Collett.
  5. We had CR jump on stage with BNB about 9 years in Vancouver... did some strange beatboxing and off centre harmonica playing. He (relunctantly) gave us a CD that was a weird kinda uber sloppy dyi christian hip hop mix... and then asked the sound guy how he could "get a jive goin in here." I'll upload a track if I get a chance... Good to see he's come into his own. Here's Dan and CR, backstage at the Starfish Room in 2000. I think the show is up on archive.org... (edit) it is... http://www.archive.org/details/bnb2000-10-04.shnf CR is on funkin shoes...
  6. Couldn't agree more with Ollie. Cyclists are unfortunately unpredictable in Toronto. The rules of the road are there so that you can anticipate what other drivers are doing. If you don't obey those rules, then I have no idea what you're gonna do, thus making you very dangerous! It's an issue that really angers me. Since moving to Totonto 8 years ago, one of the things that's changed in my driving is watching for cyclists. I worked catering for 3 years, which had me driving on the Toronto streets everyday all day. In the summer, they're my number one road hazard. Passing on the inside of a car turning right out of a turning lane was the first thing I learned to watch out for. Maybe greater law enforcement for cyclists is what needs to happen... or even a licencing system for street travel or something, so you at least have to be aware of the laws before you're aloowed on the streets. Anything to keep them safer. I think the cyclists in the city have gotten the way they have because they can get away with it. Drivers obey the laws because if they don't, there's a real good chance you'll get a ticket or get in an accident. When's the last time you deliberately ran a stop sign or traffic light in your car? :susel:
  7. Man, this new record is damn good! Really, really digging it. I'm glad to see not only that these guys are still making music, but actually making great recordings too. I'm gonna hit the London show on the 13th. Can't wait.
  8. This is fuckin scary shit. I was in Edmonton yesterday and flew through that storm on the way to Grande Prairie. I've played tons gigs on that style of stage, and have many times looked up and wondered how sturdy they actually are. As I was soundchecking outdoors in Grande Cache AB a few hours ago, I couldn't help but notice the wind and found myself checking out the rigging of the stage above and around me.
  9. How was Evolve this year anyway? I haven't heard much about it. And... not much of a drug fest?? Really? You're telling me these guys weren't there this year dancing at 7:30am in the morning to the DJs? Come on... I've been to 5 Evolves. I'm kidding of course... but actually not really.
  10. That's actually not a shirt... it's a full upper body tattoo. Happy Birthday Mike... born at a meatloaf concert!
  11. Steve's middle name is actually Elmo. hehe.
  12. The highway from Indianapolis to Wisconsin was a disater yesterday night. Lots of flooding, backed up traffic and wash outs. I hope it's in better shape today!
  13. Turned out to be a pretty interesting day. Anyone down early for Phish in Alpine Valley might have felt a bit of this as well. We left Indianapolis this afternoon, in the sweltering heat and humidity, headed for Manitowoc, WI. Oh, and I had a bird shit on me while I was drinking a coffee in front of a huge civil war monument/museum. It was sunny and fairly cloudless... about 4 hours later we noticed the sky getting ugly. John-Angus mentioned he'd heard about a possible tornado watch for the area earlier in the day... so we started cracking tornado jokes. Then the sky turned green, and kept getting crazier and crazier... then it started to rain... and it windy... and windier, and insane, and insaner. All of the sudden we couldn't see 2 feet in front of us - we were driving 10km an hour with winds hitting the van so hard we thought the windows were gonna break. A toll booth collector told us a tornado had touched down just East of us, and there was golf ball size hail coming down too. Time to get off the highway! So we take the first exit we can, and head off blindly down some little road, just trying to keep from crashing. We narrowly avoided having an oncoming car smash into the front of us, and decided we best pull over and hope for the rain and wind to stop. We pull off the road into a driveway, with a gate and a long road in front of us. The van is rocking and we're wondering what we should do if get flipped by the wind. I've never seen rain or wind like ever ever before. We all laughed nervously and decided we'd get out and run when the van finally rolled from the wind. With a trailer on the van, it was impossible for us to back out onto the busy, slow and dangerous road. So we sat. A police car pulls in beside us... and thought we could ask the cop to help us back on to the road so we could get to restaurant or something... the cop gets out of his car and walks up beside us, and quite pissed sounding asks us what we're doing there. "well, we pulled off the road cause we got freaked out and couldn't back onto the road and..." he says hold on and heads back to his car. Meanwhile it's still insane out. We make some obvious cop jokes while he's back at his car. Then we see him coming back... and we notice.... he's got his FUCKING GUN DRAWN and he's creeping up ultra cautiously, trying to see in our foggy windows. Not only are we imagining we're gonna get swept away to OZ, but now there's a nervous US trooper with his gun on us. He's asking us for our ID, telling us that the alarm in the building at the end of the driveway we're parked in is going off, and that how does he know we're not burglarizing the place. "You guys aren't going anywhere. Stay right there." he says. He's real nervous and obviously thinks we're a van full of villains. WTF? More cops show up. And a real angry dude in a tow truck who says we have to move so he can drive up the driveway... but we're not going anywhere unless the guy with gun says we can first. One cop car drives past us up the driveway and another blocks us in from the back. We're all basically shitting bricks covered in bricks at this point. Eventually the cop comes back, all laughs now - no longer threatening to shoot us, and tells us we were basically in the wrong place at the wrong time. No shit. The weather is a little better now, but still pretty sketchy. We decide to continue on, but alas, we now have a dead battery. All in all, we were pulled over for just over 2 hours. The truck guy gave us a boost, and off we went... we turned around to find the highway flooded, the power out everywhere, and complete grid lock... 1000 cars going nowhere. We tried some side roads, but got freaked out by the crazy flooding everywhere. We figured it best to be on the highway, at least crawling and on high(er) ground. It took about 2 hours to drive 5 kms to get out of it and start moving at a normal speed. The radio said that Kenosha county got the worst of it. That was exactly where we pulled off the road. Oh man. Original Video - More videos at TinyPic
  14. ....with special guests The Stars Here (Wednesday) and The Tyler Schwende Band (Thursday). june 3rd and 4th.... gonna be two fun electric nights!
  15. hmmm... i don't know. I'll ask him and get back to you. oh.... maybe it was paranoid freak - some kids remade the video semi-close to the original - which is kind of a strange thing to do.
  16. Alright. Funny. I'm laughing, really. My wife's not in it, but Jack's wife is sitting at the bar in the beginning bunch of shots. The pipes are sadly a prop, sadly.
  17. Oh man! BradM beat me to it... and in the correct forum no less!
