HERE COMES THE SUN

Friday, March 25

El Mocambo Upstairs

The show begins at 10pm

Tickets are $10 - Proceeds will go to the Red Cross

I'm putting on a George Harrison Tribute Show this Friday, and I thought it would be interesting to find out what GH songs that people like, and also highlight his contributions to the Beatles.

"Something" is one of my Harrison favorites tunes by the Beatles

Only a Northern Song

If you're listening to this song

You may think the chords are going wrong

But they're not;

He just wrote it like that.

It doesn't really matter what chords I play

What words I say or time of day it is

As it's only a Northern song

It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear

Or how I fare or if my hair is brown

When it's only a Northern song.

When you're listening late at night

You may think the band are not quite right

But they are, they just play it like that

It doesn't really matter what chords I play

What words I say or time of day it is

As it's only a Northern song.

It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear

Or how I fare or if my hair is brown

When it's only a Northern song.

If you think the harmony

Is a little dark and out of key

You're correct, there's nobody there.

It doesn't really matter what chords I play

What words I say or time of day it is

And I told you there's no one there.

While My guitar Gently Weeps hands down.

I also have a bitter sweet love for everything from his very last album, Brianwashed that he worked on during his last few months and his son and Jeff Lynne finished producing for him.It very heavy to think of him working on getting out his last messages in his lyrics and music.

I love the song Looking for my Life.

"Oh Lord, won't you listen in to me now

Oh Love, I got to get me back to you somehow

I never knew that life was loaded

I'd only hung around birds and bees

I never knew that things exploded

I only found it out when I was down upon my knees

Looking for my life, looking for my life

Oh boy, you've not idea what I've been through

Oh Lord, I feel so stuck that I can't get to you

Had no idea that I was heading

Toward a state of emergency

I had no fear where I was treading

I only found it out when I was down upon my knees

Looking for my life

Caught up on me with intensity

Had no idea where I was heading

I only found it out when I was down upon my knees

Looking for my life, looking for my life

Oh boys, you've no idea what I've been through

Oh Lord, I got to get back somehow to you" [color:"blue"]

So many amazing songs from George, it's hard to narrow it down. However, I don't think any of them move me as much as this one. I think it is a perfect composition.

All Things Must Pass

Sunrise doesn't last all morning,

a cloudburst doesn't last all day

Seems my love is up and has left you with no warning

But it's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass, all things must pass away

Sunset doesn't last all evening,

a mind can blow those clouds away

after all this my love is up and must be leaving

It has not always been this grey

All things must pass, all things must pass away

All things must pass none of life's strings can last

So I must be on my way and face another day

Now the darkness only stays at nighttime,

in the morning it will fade away

Daylight is good at arriving at the right time

It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass, all things must pass away

All things must pass, all things must pass away

George is my favorite Beatle and I find myself drawn to most of his songs.

If I had to pick a favorite it would be "Something", with "Isn't It a Pity" a close second. "Wah-Wah" is way up there for me as well. It's fun and layered in that special George way.

Have fun at that tribute. It sounds like something I'd love.

I've always loved the lennon tribute:

"All Those Years Ago"

I'm shouting all about love

While they treated you like a dog

When you were the one who had made it so clear

All those years ago

I'm talking all about how to give

They don't act with much honesty

But you point the way to the truth when you say

All you need is love

CHORUS:

Living with good and bad

I always looked up to you

Now we're left cold and sad

By someone the devil's best friend

Someone who offended all

We're living in a bad dream

They've forgotten all about mankind

And you were the one they backed up to the wall

All those years ago

You were the one who imagined it all

All those years ago

All those years ago

All those years ago

Deep in the darkest night

I send out a prayer to you

Now in the world of light

Where the spirit free of lies

And all else that we despised

They've forgotten all about God

He's the only reason we exist

Yet you were the one that they said was so weird

All those years ago

You said it all though not many had ears

All those years ago

You had control of our smiles and our tears

All those years ago..

All those years ago

All those years ago...

I have had a real soft-spot for Here Comes the Sun ever since it was played following the Phish NYE Millennium show. Every time I hear it, I can't help but remember standing there in the Florida sun after WAAAAAAAYYY too long of an awesome night, and then that song coming through the system... ooooh ya!

Definitely my favourite George tune.

My favourite George video, of course: When We Was Fab (although I wonder if he has any other videos...)
