8 Ballad of a Thin Man

9 I Shall Be Released (duet with Norah Jones)

Above is pro-shot, with exellent picture and sound. This is the complete show. It was short, and I think it was a private concert for Amazon.com execs, who showed little enthusiasm until and ovation at the end. Bob seems to be just going through the motions for the sedate crowd, but it gradually builds some momentum. The duet with Norah Jones is nice. This recording is unusual in that you can actually hear Bob's keyboard -- it's not buried in the mix. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing ;-)

22 Sing Me Back Home (written by Merle Haggard)

23 All Along The Watchtower

The Portland show is audience-shot, so don't expect perfection. Still, it's close-up and the sound is very good. Not much of "Drifter's Excape" is there -- the cameraman was either getting set up or security men were watching. There are a couple of other songs with small cuts. Also, the guy shut off the camera after each song, and turned it on again to miss a little bit of the beginning of each song. I don't know why he did that.

You can sense the increased energy level when Bob is playing for his fans. This was shot from the right side, and during most of it you get a great shot of Bob, along with his pretty fiddle player and his lead guitarist, who are seen from the side. Sometimes it zooms in for a close-up of Bob. Very little panning going on, and you don't see the entire band. As I said, far from perfect, but I think Bob fans will enjoy this.

It's interesting that throughout the two-show DVD, no song repeats.

Grateful Dead

10/31/80

DVD #2 of 4

DVD 2. (59:41).

Help Jerry's Kids (19:52)

00:00 Introduction

01:45 Jerry

02:57 Steve Parrish

04:33 Are You Taking Drugs?

07:43 Bobby

09:26 Henry Kissinger

15:14 Brent

Set 2A. (39:49).

00:00 Jack Straw>

06:20 Cold Rain & Snow

14:26 Me & My Uncle >

17:25 Mexicali Blues

21:52 Ramblin' Rose>

29:39 Little Red Rooster

The first part of the DVD is hilarious, being aired during set break (live I presume) Jerry, Al Franken & Bobby. Raising money for Jerry's kids, the person who donates the most money will get Jerry's finger that he's had on ice since he was twelve. Interview with Brent, where he claims Bobby keeps snapping him with a towel in the locker room & he keeps fuckin up St. Stephen, cuz he claims he doesn't know it. 028.gif
