Davey Boy 2.0
My curiosity finally got the better of me the other day and I picked up a 2 litre [color:#cccccc]plastic bottle of Wells ale.browny goodness but you want to finish the bottle as it goes flat fairly easily. has a dryness to it, almost to the point of making you thirstiergood but not great
ollie
Don't know why it took me so long to try it but Sleeman's Fine Porter is just that.My taste is shifting to the darker beers now that winter is here. Really enjoy some of the stronger ones.
Rossolee
I had the Great Lakes Devils Pale Ale last year(when it was a seasonal) on tap and it tasted great. But this years canned version lost its hoppy edge. I find most CDN microbrewers tend to balance the over hop taste- which is unfortunate as plenty of U.S brewers make great tasting hop bombs! The last 2 seasonals from Great Lakes(Orange Peel Ale and Winter Ale) are good beers. I'm looking forward to tonights beer session with Weirdness and HeadyGouda
bradm
Has anybody tried (or even seen) the Barley Wine from Mill St.? I saw a blurb about it in a "holiday food" article in one of the free daily newspapers, and it seemed interesting: it's (IIRC) 10% alcohol, comes in a larger-sized opaque (white) ceramic bottle (500mL?), and in the glass, it didn't look dark, more like a lighter-colour lager. It's listed on the menu at their brewpub, but not at the main brewery site.Aloha,Brad
Ol'Hickster
I heard there is still a hotel downtown where you can buy beer by the quart bottles, is this true? or just hear say
Rossolee
You can pick up the Mill St. Barleywine at the LCBO. http://lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/ProductResultsController?ITEM_NAME=mill+street+barley&ITEM_NUMBER=

Jakis
Anyone ever try the ricard's white? Thoughts?
Jaimoe
I've tried it. Not bad, but what's the point? If I want ale or lager, I'll grab a Mill Street or a Kronenbourg.
Blane
been enjoying the mill street tankhouse on my recent trips to Onscario. in other beer news McAuslan has a new sampler pack that would be a great gift for people who don't get access to their tasty range of brews. Check it out! Only drag is that it doesn't seem to include their best beer, the St. Ambroise Oatmeal stout. Get a 6-er to go along with the sampler I guess... ollie
There's a new beer from the Scotch Irish Brewing Company at the LCBO on Richmond near Kirkwood -- John By Imperial Stout. It's strong at 6.7%. Highly, highly recommended. It's the best winter beer I've had so far this season.
bagochips
Funny you should mention that, Ollie. I'm just back from the liquor store now with a selection of promising beverages I have yet to try. Halfway through my first Imperial Stout right now and giving it a strong recommend as well. While it lists 6.7% on the bottle, the brewer's website claims it is 9%. ollie
While it lists 6.7% on the bottle, the brewer's website claims it is 9%. That's probably why it's so highly recommended.
bagochips
I've moved on to this: It's not too bad, but nothing to write home about. I have to admit I bought it for the name.
ollie
Yeah, nice labeling by that brewery. I was unimpressed by this and their dark offering. Not a lot of character to Ontario breweries unfortunately, outside of Wellington and Mill Street. Creemore doesn't seem the same. Edit to add: OK, Scotch Irish, Beaus, Heritage and Sleemans premium line are good too. I just wish they all were.

dave-O
Creemore doesn't seem the same.Has Creemore actually changed? I might cry if they messed up that beer/brand. I was about to ask someone to mail me a case for Xmas.
bagochips
I think it has changed. It sure hasn't been pleasing me the way it once did. Molson purchased them a few years ago so who knows?
Jaimoe
Creemore isn't an indie brand anymore, so if it tastes different, we know the reason.
