Ryan Adams

Don't start with unauthorized live recordings.

Try "Cold Roses" or "Jacksonville City Nights" for fairly representative introductions to Ryan Adams.

"Easy Tiger" is less consistent then those recordings but is fairly accessible, as is "Heartbreaker" and "Gold". All of these are filled with tremendous songs mixed with inconsequential filler.

"29" and "Love Is Hell" are a bit more far-out and adventurous, but I'd recommend "Love Is Hell" anyday.

You may want to check out CD's from Ryan's early band Whiskeytown .

One of the reasons why Ryan caused a sensation when he broke onto the scene was because of his first two solo albums, Gold and Heartbreaker. They are both excellent. I even like his Replacements diversion in 2003, Rock N Roll. I'd like to argue that Jacksonville City Nights is his best album. It's fucking old country and beautiful.
