Booche
With Vernon Wells in the lineup, the Jays are eight games under .500 (32-40). Without him, they are a sobering 10 games over .500 (30-20).
rubberdinghy
Can you say Jason Spezza?
Jaimoe
Halladay pitched his 8th complete game tonight in Boston and the Jays win 4-1 (his shut-out was ruined in the9th win a lead-off homer). Goddamit I wish he had run-support this year: 14-9 would look more like 18-4.
Thorgnor
I'm not sure there's that much of a problem overall. Remember that Cito just returned halfway through the season and the bats started to swing, I think this is somewhat of a different team right now. One or two more bats would probably mean a huge difference in wins/losses, maybe Cito needs some time with guys like Rolen to get'em rollin'. Look at the D on guys like Rolen and MacDonald, there's no reason we can't stop runs.

Schwa.
31 divisional games for the Jays before the end of the season. Very possible to make the playoffs if a number of factors fall into place. GO JAYS!
afro poppa
not sure about the playoffs, but third place is a definite possibility...we'll see how we do against the yanks

Hal Johnson
Burnett threw a gem last night! Good comeback too.
badams
I would love to see the Jays make a run for the playoffs. They are the playing the right teams to make it happen.
Basher
Let's talk after they got an eight game winning streak going.
Hal Johnson
Id love to see a good run too - but their hitting is pitiful. Even last night...they got lucky with a couple of Damon's errors.
badams
Let's talk after they got an eight game winning streak going.I agree. Too often this year they have gotten to 5 or 6 games above .500 only to fall back to even again.
The Chameleon
Is it even mathematically possible for the Jays to sneak into the playoffs in the wild card race?I thought they were out of it for sure.
Thorgnor
They're close enough still... but it isn't gonna happen.Big news...8 AM Sportcentre report: Stairs designated for assignment (he's getting traded)... Apparently Scutaro and Barajas could move as well. There's also a rumor that there is interest from the West coast regarding MacDonald.Say it ain't so. Finally they get some chemistry and they really want to write off the season?
Hal Johnson
Ahh, season's over. I agree with you on the chemistry thing though...seems like they finally have some type of cohesiveness developing. The thing I dont get, is why trade Barajas? He's been fairly solid all year. Ricciardi, for some reason, likes to get a new catcher every year and i can't quite figure out why. Molina is probably an above average hitter as far as catchers go, but he didnt even seem to entertain the idea of re-signing him.If they dont re-sign Barajas, they've got to ease a kid into development next year, and as far as I know, they dont have anyone in the system who stands out as a cant miss prospect. So then what, Zaun and some rookie share the duties? Why did we ever get rid of Molina?!
Thorgnor
Why loose Molina to trade Barajas and get stuck with an overpayed and underproducing Zaun, I don't know?

Thorgnor
The guys in Boston have grenade launchers for bats.
The Chameleon
Does trading Stairs make any sense?! They Jays have almost no power and they go and trade the one vet with power.I know he's 40 but still. WE HAVE NO BATS!!!I love Johnny Mac but he suffers from the Gary Petis syndome... all defense and speed but no bat. Mac is barely hitting over .200. Hopefully cito can work on it. Thorgnor
Stairs wasn't hitting much better that Mac... Eckstein confuses me though... underproducing for sure but can you afford to loose him at that price and then have him come back to bite you later on in the season? badams
The Jays are going to be a nice spoiler as the season comes to an end but are just too far out to really have a chance at the playoffs.Once again here is hoping for next year. A healthy year would be a nice start.
