LXQ42
So Evolve was short one wicked performer this past weekend, when THAT ONE GUY had his instument and other gear stolen out of his car while stopping over in Montreal PQ. This instument was homemade, and very hard to reproduce. It is his livleyhood, and I feel so terrible for him to have it taken. Here is a list I found of the stuff that was taken. Man this sucks. SmoothedShredder
I wish I had something to add to that list... but that is pretty awful. If it shows up in Skead I'll let you know.
boiler
WTF? That's disgusting. Nobody in the world would have any use for that magic pipe other than a scrap yard. Hopefully it turns up. I hate thieves.
bouche
Is there just one band of thieves following around touring acts right now and grabbing their gear? who in the hell even plots this shit? I can't even imagine sitting around, talking to my thief buddies and saying "hey, there's this guy coming to play at this festival and we should steal all his shit and get rich". dave-O
This is as bad as it gets in gear theft, how could you even pawn a homemade stringed pipe or whateverthefuck that thing is?!Mike is as nice of guy as I've ever met, poor dude. Northern Wish
Manhole covers are going missing in record #'s here in Ottawa with a street value of $50. Maybe they stole it for the raw materials?I think if you are a touring band, you had better learn to cover the shit in your vehicle with a heavy blanket and not let them know what is inside. I saw a van for Hey Ocean when they were here in Ottawa, and all of the gear was easy to see from streetside- not a good idea!
bradm
I think if you are a touring band, you had better learn to cover the shit in your vehicle with a heavy blanket and not let them know what is inside.Getting insurance on your gear (which I think most musicians' unions can provide) is also a good idea, as is taking pictures and recording the make/model/serial # of each piece of gear.Aloha,Brad

ersh
Our van was broken into last time we were in Montreal... out behind le Cabaret. Our guitar tech Steve and I were walking back to our hotel where we saw that our van had not been moved from the area it was parked earlier as recommended by the promoter due to break ins in the area. We both agreed it was kind of silly, and Steve even noted that his laptop was still in the van too. So in the time it took for him to walk into the hotel, up to the second floor, get keys, and come back down.... someone smashed the window behind the driver's seat and made off with his computer. What a pisser!!!Montreal is sooooo bad for break ins to vehicles. BNB has been broken into there before, as has just about every other musician I talk to. Robert Plant even had his entire merchandise truck stolen there a few years ago!!!Poor that one guy. I'd imagine he has a backup, seeming as he only has that one instrument. Blane
montreal is gear-theft mecca. Thieves very clearly target medium-sized clubs to steal band gear. It happens so often that you can hardly keep track. Horrible.

jay sanislo
wow this is insane. This might stop people from passing through on a tour! I know I would have second thoughts if I were in a band, especially if sentimental gear was on board.Sad..........very sad.

Hartamophone
Damn that sucks.Reminds me of Matt Costa's full range of gear being swiped from inside the Garrick Center in Winnipeg last year (there was a thread on it here). Can't get a whole lot lower in terms of property theft without really stooping. boiler
Maybe it's "just one guy" stealing all the equipment in Montreal; like "that one bike stealing guy" in Toronto that stole about 22.25 gaziilion bikes.
