Cully
I hope Pat Tabler is still doing colour, he has great insight!
Jaimoe
I'm not a big fan of any of the Jays broadcasters, excluding radio (Jerry is excellent and shouldn't have been overshadowed by Cheek for so many years). Rod Black improved, and I hate saying that. Rance was too serious and Fletcher didn't work enough. Tabler is too nice. I think Zaun will be a good colour guy when he decides to retire. badams
We knew it was coming but it still makes me sad. He is in a better place now. Thanks for all the good years Roy. It's too bad the Jays couldn't put it together around you. You certainly did your part.
Hal Johnson
Hmmmm...wonder who the other guys are. Hey, at least he didn't go to the Yanks or the Red Sox.But really, who are the other guys?!?
Jaimoe
I'm sad to see my favourite athlete leave, but it's for the best. He could easily bring the Phillies 20 wins next season or more.
Booche
But really, who are the other guys?!? It really doesnt matter Hal, trust me. You CANNOT replace someone like Roy Halladay. This move is going to further erode an already eroding fanbase.
Hal Johnson
Let's freaking hope not! A Bunch of prospects from two different organisations could be huge...will definitely require some patience on the fans part though...and we all know how devoted Jays fans are. Big Wooly Mammoth
several top prospects would be agood thing. and getting roy out of the AL is key. the jays weren't gonna compete in 2010. anthopolous will have the budget when he needs it. and roy was gone after 2010 no matter what. so this is a good thing, assuming they got some top prospects. Booche
I should probably clarify. I agree that the Jays had to make this move. Roy was gone, no doubt about it but was now the right time? We'll see. My main point is that this is going to have a hugely negative impact on an already tired and listless fanbase. The Jays werefucked no matter what. A reallyshitty ballpark, a team that doesnt look like its going anywhere because it hasnt in seemingly forever, no true marketable stars.......there's a lot of bad going on.I really hope they can pull through. Hal Johnson
Im still pissed they didn't sign Figgins.
Schwa.
Figgin's doesn't fit to what they need to do now, I don't think. He's proven and is too high on the pay scale for their situation.I did hear that the prospects that they got from Philly are very highly touted. Here's hoping. Hal Johnson
I see your pooint, but if they had locked him up for 4 yrs he would have A) filled the hole at 3rd, and provided a solid lead-off man that they haven't had since But I guess 15 mill is a lot, even in baseball terms. Schwa.
They may have been able to do that if it weren't for that GIGANTIC albatross named Wells. Unfortunately that one contract will dictate how they acquire players for the next 2 years at least.
Hal Johnson
Oh ya, him. They should have used my idea and packaged him with Halladay.
Booche
Wells isnt going anywhere (never was Hal) unless his injuries have wreaked havoc on him the past couple of seasons. IF he turns it around.......then anything is possible.
Schwa.
Wells is the Baseball equivalent of a pair of 300lb cementfuckingshoes. Straight to the bottom.
Hal Johnson
I know Wells isn't going anywhere. I still think my proposal was the most dynamic and innovative one to date though I was talking to someone about him yesterday though. We agreed that his most productive season's were when he hit infront of a legit power threat, such as Delgado, or Glaus (Thomas or Rolen definitely don't count). He hasn't really had that threat over the past few seasons (he might also have quit using roids - which probably more likely). Lind, however, will now be on every pitcher's radar this year and Wells may see some better pitches. He has to lay off the low-outside junk and the high heat though. Booche
This might be it kids. To Philadelphia: Roy Halladay (Roy signs for 60 millions over 3 more years), $6M cash, Phillippe Aumont RHP, Juan Carlos Ramirez RHP, Tyson Gillies OFTo Seattle: Cliff LeeTo Toronto: Kyle Drabek RHP (Tommy John surgery, and who else had that in recent Jays memory? BJ Ryan), Michael Taylor OF, Travis D’Arnaud C

Booche
the ESPN insider liked the deal. For who? The Phillies?
Jaimoe
One thing that is interesting and no one can figure out - since the Phillies aren't talking: Why didn't the Phillies just keep Lee and make a deal with the Jays directly? Lee will make 8 mil next season, which is a good deal for the Mariners. Halladay, Lee one-two punch is about as good as it gets. Maybe the Phillies were staying on some sort of budget. Who knows? Booche
Why didn't the Phillies just keep Lee and make a deal with the Jays directly? Gotta be economics and possibly knowing that Lee isnt interested in either resigning with them or with the amount they were planning to offer or had offered. Big Wooly Mammoth
they believed that they couldn't re-sign lee based on previous comments that he made.i have no problem with wells. he didn't ask for all that money. he was never a great player. ricciardi offered him a shitload of cash and he took it. he is a 20 HR 80 RBI player. I don't expect anything more out of him. he's nota player to build an offense around.
