  1. Basher, my thoughts are with you. I hope you find strength in this very difficult time. This news hit me like a ton of bricks. (can't find more poetic words than this). I've only met Julia twice, the first time at the Allman Brothers at the Molson Amphitheatre, but I remember her well because she was so friendly. Of course, I feel like I know her more than just those two brief meetings...her personality shone through her posts. RIP Julia.
  2. Half brothers Devin and Dylan McLeod are the Gigglin’ Jerks, a new Caribbean infused restaurant in a quiet Ottawa area. On The Opener tonight at 9pm on Food Network. The restaurant is in Sandy Hill. They're having difficulty getting their full liquor license right now. Read here.
  3. Velvet, tonight and many other nights, I agree with that statement. Ollie just spent a few hours trying to clean my parents' computer contaminated by tons of viruses, trojans, what have you. It's still all screwed up. Time not well spent; more research to do. Urgh.
  4. OTTAWA — Thursday night will be an unusually good chance to show your kids a spaceship, as the International Space Station passes high overhead just after 6 p.m. It will be easy to see with the naked eye, as the white walls and metal panels of the station reflect the sun just as darkness is falling on Earth. The forecast is for clear skies. The station, with a crew of six, will appear at 6:02 p.m. low in the sky, to the west northwest. (Find due west, then go a bit to the north.) It will be visible for three minutes until it disappears into Earth’s shadow in the southeastern sky, before reaching the far horizon. During that overhead pass it will reach 84 degrees of elevation — almost directly overhead. (Straight up is 90 degrees.) The station is the colour of a star, but brighter. It moves quickly and silently, travelling about 400 kilometres above the Earth, at nearly 28,000 km an hour. The station is often visible just after sunset or just before sunrise, making this time of year a good time to show the kids a spaceship before bedtime. It always appears somewhere in the west and travels to somewhere in the east, but the exact course appears to change as Earth revolves under it. © Copyright © The Ottawa Citizen
  5. I think I know you. Happy Birthday!
  6. Ah...that should be a good show. I saw Tokyo Sex Whale at Westfest. I'd only heard their name around town. I really enjoyed their heavy sound. Never heard of C'mon but I like their look: http://www.thisiscmon.com/biography/ I haven't been to the Dom in years! I don't think I'll be able to make it there tonight though. Anyone checking out Melissa Auf Der Maur at Mavericks tonight? I saw her at Heavy MTL; it was OK, but in a small venue, it might be much better. I'm not familiar with her music though. Anyway, not going to that show either!
  7. Exactly....Halloween is not for the wimpy! I have flickering lights, many pumpkins, ghosts and goblins, and skeletons. Come on, kids!
  8. We have scary music blasting out of our front window right now, but I think it's scaring people a little too much. I have noticed kids walking right by our place...I'm blaming Ollie. Our place is creeping people out. Well, more candy for me!
  9. Have a wonderful day Sharon! Friday birthdays are the best!!
  10. Here's a review and a crowd picture with happier-looking people! I don't recognize anyone on that side of the room though: Jazzblog review
  11. Not gonna be able to help you out, but just wanted to share this cool kinetic installation at Corus Building in Toronto: Troika's latest kinetic installation is on display in the Corus building in Toronto and features a shoal of fish that seem to swim up and down a 50m long corridor... WATCH VIDEO To create Shoal, 467 'fish' are suspended from the ceiling of the space and rotate on their own axis in order to, say Troika, "display the movements and interdependency typical to school of fish". Each fish is wrapped in dichroic acrylic, which produces the iridescent colours as they spin. As the studio explain on their website: "The ceiling architecture is set in motion and appears liquified, changing the spatial experience of the corridor while opening up the surrounding architecture infinitely towards Lake Ontario." Shoal was curated by PAM (Karen Mills and Justin Ridgeway) and commissioned by TEDCO as a permanent installation for the Corus building located at Toronto's Waterfront, Queens Quay East.
  12. OK, I wanna know... Who is the first chick who's gonna eat this (and not the Velvet version, Phorbesie)? And it only counts if you eat all of it. It won't be me. I don't think. Unless I need to get to sleep real fast someday. Or if I wanna feel really bad about myself.
  13. Thanks...I was wondering about the smokers. What about the alcoholics or simply those who need to enjoy a drink or two everyday? And don't men need to "release some stress" too on a regular basis? How did that work out?!
  14. This seems like a pretty good deal...a 20 minute plane ride over Ottawa for $30: http://flyday.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/2010-Fly-Day-poster.pdf
  15. haha! I like that...6 months is not that long at all! Yay spring! Tonight is a pretty freaking weird weather night in Ottawa. I like it!! Hot outside, cold inside.
  16. Yep, tons of cultural events all over the country. This is 3-day festival that's been very strong in Québec for a few years now and it's finally taking off in other provinces. There's also quite a few openings tonight due to the Ottawa Photography Festival: http://www.festivalx.ca/
  17. Ah I had such wonderful times at Super Ex. And I lived in Vanier when I used to go, well, technically, Vanier started on my front neighbour's lawn. Looks like I won't get to go one last time. Kinda sad, but it wouldn't be the same anyway. I don't think I'd try my damndest to win a Jack Daniels framed print, well, maybe I would. A man at my work remembers that when he used to go in the 60s, game prizes included packs of cigarettes. Ah...
  18. Final Frontier is soooooo goood! I've been listening to it non-stop for the past 2 weeks. Looooove it! It totally brings me back to my teen years when I'd listen to the same album over and over again, and where I'd know all the song titles and read the lyrics while listening. I wanna go back to listening to albums now instead of random songs by different artists.
  19. Oh yeah, St-Pierre and Miquelon...I'd have to go there if I go to Newfoundland!! Never been to "France" and this would be a cheap way to do it. Work feels sucky when I read your posts!!
