  1. Ah yes!! Ollie, snack idea!! This was lunch for me as kid and I haven't had it in probably more than 20 years. Cheap, simple and yummy.
  2. Yeah, I think voting needs to be done in person. Are people that freaking lazy? Geez. And if you're not in town on election day, there are advance voting days. If you can't be in town for even those, then maybe you should not even live in Canada. If voting is done online, anybody could vote as you if they have your access code, or whatever they would use to make sure it's you voting. I just heard on the radio this morning that Pierre McGuire (hockey analyst on TSN) did not vote. What a dweeb. He is a Canadian resident, right?
  3. Harper/election results article in the British newspaper, the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/may/03/canada-stephen-harper-american-politics
  4. "One of her passions is rescuing and rehabilitating injured animals. For many years Ruth Ellen has committed her time and energy to finding homes for stray animals in her community." I like that, but I hope she finds new, more diverse passions now!! Eek! So many new MPs now from the NDP! Many are young, inexperienced, women, diverse cultures. Will they be able to speak up to Harper?? This would have been the time for any of us here to become an NDP election candidate!
  5. I noticed a review of the Montreal show in La Presse today. Here it is and the reviewer says that they missed the Yawn show. bouche, this is for you to practice your French: Tame Impala au Café Campus Alléchante affiche rock au bon vieux Campus samedi soir, alors que s'amenaient en ville trois jeunes groupes bien chauds: Yawn, de Chicago (groupe qu'on a loupé), et surtout les Britanniques Yuck et les Australiens Tame Impala.
  6. New Fleet Foxes...cool! I probably knew about this new release but then forgot. Weren't they rumoured to play Bluefest at one point? I remember being excited about that possibility. Hmm.
  7. The highlight of my Christmas holiday was watching the first season of Breaking Bad. Hope to watch the second season soon.
  8. There's no way that this year's line-up was going to beat last year's...last year was stellar. Who am I looking forward to the most? From what's announced so far, I'm somewhat excited about My Morning Jacket since I've never seen them and used to like them about 5 years ago...I should listen to their recent stuff. Looks like I'll be going to Heavy MTL at the end of July for my fill of metal.
  9. Free events tonight for the opening of the Prairie Scene festival in Ottawa. http://www.prairiescene.ca/en/events/swarm/default.asp
  10. I'd like to go see those in person: http://communities.canada.com/ottawacitizen/blogs/omnivore/archive/2011/04/05/stubbe-chocolates-forms-alliance-with-organic-cocoa-grower-in-columbia.aspx
  11. I got excited about the fish over the pancakes. But give me pancakes any day! I know it was a "pedestrian dish" (as one of the judges said about that dish I think?) but I'm not very hard to please. I'd eat super simple pasta any day as well!
  12. Yep, looks sold out: http://www.ticketmaster.ca/event/10004631967A6E6C?artistid=775070&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1
  13. yeah, his Ottawa show is sold out I think huh? I could make the effort to go on Clyde to see him. Cool that he was on Kimmel in March...gonna have to watch that.
  14. Yeah, some guys at my work are excited about Return to Forever IV...didn't they play the festival last year or the year before, or some of those guys did anyway. I should check them out. I really need to go downtown this year for Canada Day...I can at least go see some of these bands on the 1st. Just sucks not living downtown on Canada Day...it's nice to go chill somewhere in between activities.
  15. Piano singer-songwriter type stuff in the pop genre?
  16. Tyler Kealey Trio at the Elmdale on Sunday April 10th, from 3-5pm. $5 http://tylerkealey.com/fr_home.cfm If you like piano singer-songwriter Billy Joel type stuff, you might like Tyler...check it out!
  17. oh yeah, I don't want to forget to watch it: http://www.foodnetwork.ca/topchefcanada/index.html
  18. I don't think I've even been to Brutopia. Been to Cheval Blanc a few times. Love it there. Never had the Morning Wood. I think I would have remembered that name. Last time I was in Montreal, we went went to Dieu du Ciel brewpub but the vibe was weird there. Their beer is really good, and we buy it regularly in Hull, but the pub was kinda packed, super hot and Ollie and I both thought we were gonna pass out, so we had one beer and left. The long walk to get there probably didn't help.
  19. I guess this is over huh?
  20. Facebook does it again. One of the first things I asked Ollie after he bought his iPad is "Did you tell Mike?" Ollie is playing a car racing game on it right now. I got to play Angry Birds finally after hearing about it for so long. Oh and I got to play the the Crue's Home Sweet Home on the Garage Band keyboard, but in general, that thing spends way more time in Ollie's hands.
  21. Anyone going to this? Looks like it's sold out...I could have walked to this show, had I bought tickets. Fearing and White, Ottawa ON @ Westboro Masonic Hall 430 Churchill Avenue. 8pm, Saturday April 9th Ottawa Citizen article But it's the last Sens game of the season anyway that night so... :nhl: (oops...edit: hockey game is in the afternoon).
  22. That would be good! I've heard this rumour before but now it sounds like it's more than a rumour. There will a good number of pubs near me now...pub crawl!! Whispers is the closest pub for me, but now there's Corner Bar and Grill, and there will be Clocktower and Churchill's opening up and now possibly Mill Street Brew Pub. Hooray! Although that's not in my neighbourhood. Will be great for Bluesfest patrons!
  23. That's cause Facebook and Twitter took over. I now have no idea what's up with anyone because I am not a member of the above. So what would make this place a better one then?
  24. Looks like ground beef, but why would ground beef be associated with Miami? So it's probably something else. The only one that made me hungry on that list is the McSpaghetti with that weird drumstick.
  25. I am disappointed that Ollie started a thread for this video. And disappointed that he even told me about this video earlier this week. But the guy's only trying to keep me updated on internet culture. Happy Friday anyway! Low Roller...I love the Stewie Sexy Party. One of my favorite Family Guy clips. I could watch that over and over again!
