  1. Free outdoor music is fun. I'd also like to try the Granville Island Pale Ale that Back Lane Café serves; located at 1087 Wellington. I think they have it on tap. I hear they also make homemade doughnuts that are very tasty. You can also check out some art this weekend during the West End Studio Tour
  2. I'd like to check this out this year, even if Ollie went one year and complained about the lineups. I've never been. Maybe my goal should be to just get out of the house at a decent time for an afternoon walk...that way, I won't be disappointed if I don't get any samples of food, you know? A beer somewhere would be nice though.
  3. Would have been a good night to go to Atelier tonight: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/food-and-wine/trends/trends-features/el-bulli-tribute-dinners-culinary-flattery-or-theft/article2155026/
  4. Love that riff! This is the first time I ever make the effort to listen to Ryan Adams.
  5. Bump...in case anyone is the mood for some rides this weekend...a few good classics...drove by there tonight...saw the Super Loop, Zipper, Pirate Ship, a nice ferris wheel. Free to get in! http://www.midwaymagic.ca/
  6. Who forgot to invite those two to a jam party?! Harper said the two, both musicians, would often talk about getting together for a jam session, but “it always seemed we were too busy.†“I’ll always regret the jam session that never was. That is a reminder, I think, that we must always make time for friends, family and loved ones while we still can.†From this article
  7. Ah, quel parfait timing! Bravo Michel!!! Hey, I don't get a language bonus at my work?! Bonne fête Mike!!! OG = Old Guy...haha!
  8. Yeah, I think that's still the plan...I thought Albion Road was the plan though, but not sure and also not sure if it'll be in 2012.
  9. Here ya go...too bad they didn't plan to also have bands play at the stadium though...sounds like it's just rides. Fair planned for Fat Cats' parking lot Replacement for SuperEx BY TONY LOFARO, OTTAWA CITIZEN JULY 21, 2011 SuperEx at Lansdowne Park was cancelled after 122 years, but is being replaced by a scaled-back fair next month. Photograph by: Wayne Cuddington, The Ottawa Citizen, Ottawa Citizen There isn't a SuperEx but it hasn't stopped an Ontario midway operator from going ahead with a scaled-back version of the annual fair next month. World's Finest Shows is bringing a midway, concessions, and entertainment to the parking lot of the Fat Cats stadium on Coventry Road from Aug. 19 to 28. Admission will be free and all youcan-ride bracelets will be sold for $20 in advance or $35 per person at the fair. The new fair will be called Ottawa Midway Magic. "You can't just let a legend fall by the wayside," said Barry Jamieson, owner of World's Finest Shows, which supplied a midway to SuperEx for about 18 years. "Ottawa was one of the premier fairs of this province," said Jamieson, who is based in Simcoe, Ont. But in recent years SuperEx suffered with dwindling attendance and financial problems. Central Canada Exhibition Association officials decided earlier this year to cancel the annual summer fair at Lansdowne Park, bringing an end to a 122-year tradition in the city. Officials had hoped to relocate the fair to land it had purchased on Albion Road but the plan was shelved after the cost of servicing the land became too prohibitive. "It's hard to just stop a fair, it's been going on forever. Hopefully I can keep it treading water. I don't want to see it end and we'll give it a good shot," he said. Jamieson said there hasn't been much time to plan a full program but the 10-day fair will have most of the attractions that were once a staple at SuperEx, including the midway rides. The fair will not have any agricultural content or grandstand shows but it will include food concessions stands, interactive entertainment, a petting zoo and a craft area. It will operate weekdays from 4 to 11 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Jamieson said he did ''allright" business at SuperEx last year despite some rainy days. Figures for the 2010 fair show that attendance was down seven per cent over 2009, but despite that, the fair managed to make a $120,000 profit because it did not pay rent to the city. Jamieson said the midway and concessions take most of the parking lot at the baseball stadium, which precludes any public parking on the site. He expects people will be taking public transportation to get to the fairgrounds. "I'm trying to work out some other arrangements for parking, but it's not in place yet," he said. Jamieson said he didn't think the fair will clash with the schedule of the Fat Cats which could run until mid-August. "We will work closely with the Fat Cats stadium people if the team is still in the playoffs," said Jamieson, adding he's paying a fee to the baseball club to use the parking lot. Joe Pavia, a former program and marketing manager with SuperEx, is helping Jamieson promote the new fair. "Barry really wants to keep it simple this year and just see how it goes," said Pavia. "There were a lot of people who were disappointed when it was announced that there wouldn't be a fair this year. People were used to going to Lansdowne Park every August," he said. Pavia said the new fair will be aimed at families who still want to enjoy a leisurely day at the fairgrounds. The fact that there isn't an admission charge will probably attract many budget-conscious families, he added. © Copyright © The Ottawa Citizen
  10. Not too much talk about this festival on here huh? Hmmm. I just saw an ad that says they are now offering a layaway plan to pay for the tickets...buy now, pay later...isn't that a credit card? I wonder if that means ticket sales are slow. http://www.capitalhoedown.net/en#
  11. Ah, so you saw the only two songs I know of those guys. Oh no no no. They were one of the reasons I wanted to go this year since I've never seen them and recently started listening to them. There will be other chances I am sure.
  12. Ah ok...part 3 just arrived...
  13. Ah yes, Motley Crue was the first band I was not allowed to go see. But a few months after that, my parents were in a good mood an let me go see Iron Maiden. Hooray. I never listened to Annihilator much and I have no idea why, so I did this past weekend. I definitely have to listen to some more. Oh come on...this review is tons of fun...are you taking a dinner break or something right now?!
  14. Ollie just gave me the news. Urgh. I'm not surprised but still saddened. If only this girl could have cleaned herself up. She had an amazing voice. One less female singer with a golden voice.
  15. Ollie and I kinda just made the decision not go to this weekend. And now you are making me regret the decision with your fun party faces. We'll look for you if ever we do end up going at the last minute!! Have an awesome time and report back! If we don't go, Ollie's taking me on this cruise: http://www.70000tons.com/home.htm
  16. Seeing that stage collapse was heart-wrenching. When the rain started and the speakers were dying during Cheap Trick, Ollie and I decided to go in the beer tent on stage right of the main stage, but when the wind picked up dramatically, we figured that being under a tent was not a good idea so we exited and I looked back to see the collapse of the stage. And I felt like crying. We stayed on the grounds for a while, looking for friendly faces and ran into Freak By Night, Marnie and Whitey in the merch tent and not long after, security announced the end of the festival. So many people put their heart and soul in this festival; I can't imagine how they must feel right now, on the last day of another terrific year. I'm very happy to hear that nobody died. Who else feels like they need proper closure?
  17. I did not want to go to bed after last night's show. This is the show that I was waiting for at Bluesfest. I wish I could see it again. Oh, I get to look forward to Jane's Addiction now though. Tonight, I'll be getting there a little later than usual due to dinner plans, but I'll probably go check out Tim Robbins I guess, just because. And I might go check out some salsa at the National Bank stage if I need energy.
  18. So who left Bluesfest early? We took the 10:15 bus back home after it seemed like none of the bands were coming back on after the rain and the beer lineups were still huge! Did any bands come back on? I saved money tonight; I only bought 2 beers!
  19. Cheers to Canada! Love ya! The 16 bus just went by my place and it was full to capacity...downtown Ottawa will be rockin' today! Who's going?
  20. Ah man...yeah that reminds me of many shows I've been to in the 90s where we'd come out of the venue looking like we'd been to hell and back! Shower required after the show! Mike, time for you to practice your French reading skills. Review in La Presse in two parts. Friday's show Saturday's show
  21. I would have liked to check out Elliott Brood but it took us a while to find the entrance to the tent and once we did, we weren't happy with the line-up, especially not knowing if they sold booze inside...did they? Davey Boy...the Late Night Jam Sessions take place at the Arc hotel, by the way. http://www.arcthehotel.com/
  22. Is this rain gonna stop you think? We decided to go to the jazz festival tonight instead of last night (we've never seen Costello); I went to CD Warehouse today to get tickets in advance. Huh. Perhaps a dumb move.
