  1. You totally should have worn a 10 gallon hat and gone horseback riding for your birthday. Your mustache is totally cowboy! Happy birthday Stapes. All the best.
  2. Oh and speaking of pork belly, the reason we bought it to begin with is to make Braised Fresh "Bacon". We saw this recipe in our new cook book called Think Like a Chef by Tom Colicchio. The picture in the book is UNBELIEVABLE and the recipe was voted "Meat dish of the year" by GQ magazine. I can't wait to make it.
  3. No, ours due get soggy within a few days, but we do use them quickly as a result.
  4. China town. That market at Bayswater and Somerset.
  5. Sometimes the urge to make soup strikes me (you understand don't you d_jango?) I throw on tunes, open a few beers and can chop and stir for hours. Today I'm making: Beef Barley Split Pea and pork belly Vichyssoise That should do us for lunches for the next couple of weeks!
  6. Cut those babies open and they'll reveal a really nice marble pattern. I've baked them, but they are so sweet and tasty that my preferred method is just to par-boil or steam them and put them on a salad. OR (and this is bouche's favorite thing I make)fry up some chorizo and garlic, throw in some bow tie pasta, the steamed beets and "sauce" it up simply with olive oil, lime juice, cilantro, salt and pepper.
  7. Most grocery stores have them in the veggie section in plastic containers.
  8. We haven't got any turnips or rutabaga. Might they be yellow beets?

If there are any instructors out there who are interested and able to take on this job, please contact me with your rates. Thanks.
